roughly it means mesiah (but more in a Jihad kind of way...)

Maud Dib is the name of the son of Duke Leto. Sent to Arakis to mine the spice. However the ebil Harkonen's killed Leto in an attempt to overthrow the Duke and gain ultimate control of spice manufacturing. However in thier feeble attempt to kill the Duke and his son and wife was born Maud Dib.
Paul Atreides also Duke Leito's son then became Maud Dib known to the Fremen as thier prophet and messiah.

"Maud" aka Maude was a very successful sitcom in the 1970's, starring Bea Arthur.
