If it's "griefing" you're playing the wrong game.
It's that simple.

Some other players mine players, they are the predators.

Makes it really fun saving up just to learn some other way a person can #$%& you over. Thanks CCP for making it so that anyone can open you can and take the stuff out and for making it where someone can kill you quick enough before anything happens in a 1.0 (suppose to be the most secure sectors)space.

Posts like this are *precisely* why EvE is such a wonderful game. Eve is completely open ended. You're not forced to do anything. Your characters can do anything and be anything they wish, simply learn the skills and buy the ships. No artificial economy. No artificial limits.
There is no such thing as 'griefing' in Eve. Only players who make mistakes. If you're mining and someone steals your ore, you made a mistake. If you get ganked in high-sec, you made a mistake obiviously. You're new, so you don't understand this yet. But given time and some experience perhapse you will overcome your ignorance and learn from your mistakes and become a better player. The players who don't learn from their mistakes will continue to make the same ones and those are what the rest of us call FAILURES, also known as "Carebears".
Carebears are not "the ones who make your stuff". Carebears are the players that want Eve to be a friendly fuzzy place that is completely safe and keeps them from suffering any sort of loss if they do something stupid. Thankfully, Eve isn't that place. I hope you learn from this experience and carry on instead of crying like a child and hiding behind your mothers skirt.
Everyone is having a stupid contest, and you're in first place! |

Sorry to hear about your loss. As a little char I know that it can be so frustrating to loose all you worked for the last week(s) in a few moments. The people who are *****ing at the OP surely do not know and do not want to know that feeling.
But... EVE puts you in a more or less hostile environment. As several people already pointed out you made some mistakes, next time you should try to do better.
1. Avoid Jita
2. Stay away from Jita and surrounding systems
3. Find yourself a nice small system with only few locals in it. The map (show average pilots in last 30 minutes) can help you a lot to find good systems. In quiet systems you can jetcan mine without any problems.
4. Find some friends and stay with them. A thief will think twice to steal ore when he sees a warship next to the can.
5. Use sell order instead of hauling the stuff around. Let the others come to get your things. You might maybe have to lower the price a bit and earn so 5-10% less, but that is still better than loosing 100% + the ship + hauling time.

A. Okay save up to buy a hauler and do some mineral moving. Suicider in Jita kills it. B. Save up and get a mining barge and someone comes and steal everything in my can.
These both have many many counters, to name a few:
1 a) Don't use an indy to transport high value goods - use a t2 hauler
2) a) Don't jet can mine, full stop. Fly back to the station when your bay is full. jet-can mining was never an intended usage of them. What you are effectively doing is discarding your ore, then picking it up again.
I cleaned up the quote to address these two suggestions. First, given the OP needed to save to purchase the T1 hauler, he is in no financial position to purchase a T2 hauler let alone the skills. I've noticed that many highly skilled players give perfectly valid advice for someone who is equally skilled as they are, but useless advice for low skilled players. Fortunately, someone did provide an answer that the OP could use: transport the minerals to a system outside or adjacent to Jita and create a sell order that is equivalent to the buy order in the system (you'll need to account for the broker fee, of course).
The second suggestion, flying back to the station, is very time consuming and not necessary for a solo mining operation. There are several alternatives to this. First, the OP could chose a low-traffic solar system to jet can and transport the raw ore to his preferred base of operation (presumably a station with the lowest processing fees).
Second, he could ninja mine into a jet can that is located in a safe spot outside the belt (create a safe spot BM and locate a transfer jetcan with 1 ammo round, warp to belt and create a mining BM, then rinse and repeat the following cycle: mine for one cycle, warp to safe spot and drop off the ore, warp back to belt BM and align to safe spot).
Third, to minimize the chances that an ore thief will bother you in a high-traffic system, select a belt that is not at the beginning nor end of the dropdown list. Set up your mining operation OUTSIDE of the belt rather than inside the belt such that an ore thief would actually need to work to reach your can (most casual ore thieves looking for an easy kill are pretty lazy). If someone drops into the same belt, converse with them in local ... ask them about their corp, any pvp tips, etc. Most casual thieves target faceless victims and would be reluctant to steal from a "new" friend.
As a final word of advice, an industrialist needs to factor in the bad stuff as part of doing business. You should always maintain a reserve of ISK equal to an amount to rebuild your fleet, if not more. You also need to be flexible and have several back-up plans available in case your primary plan is not working. Finally, it's not worth taking the griefing and ganking personally... just set a low standing for the bum and adjust your plans accordingly when you see the bum in local again. Mutatis Mutandis |

Yes concorde are slow, but thats realistic. If you walk down the street and shoot a man in public you'll get away with it...than the police will arrive. The can't enforce a law if nothing happened --------
