Twitch is filled with people that do all kinds of unsavory things for real world money. You basically have to sell out in order to succeed, so this crud doesn't surprise me much. I personally enjoyed watching Soda dress like a woman several months back! What? Don't judge me man he made one hell of a foxy chick!!! |

Yeah I just saw the reddit post about it further clarifying. I thought she was milking some bogus dead grandfather story in order to pull in money. Anyway, I see that it was basically a few Goons being asshats to her in the stream and it was uncalled for. However, depending on whose stream you visit trolling and terrible behavior like that aren't necessarily all that uncommon either. |

Some pretty shameful and nasty stuff there; but then again, so is using the death of a relative to collect sympathy and donations from strangers on the internet. I don't think it's CCP's job to police how people behave out of game in any case. |

She was more upset about the death's affect on her mother than she was in mourning herself - for reasons - she was actually pretty matter of factly stating things for her viewers as to why she'd missed an earlier stream and it was only after about 10 minutes of constant trolling that she just decided to end the show.
But jumping to a conclusion based on your preconceived notions is I'm sure a lot easier than actually finding out about the situation or adding anything of substance based around the facts.

At some point, it's also up to the community to take responsibility.
CCP can really only take action if they are informed about it properly, not via a reddit thread or a forum thread, but by someone actually complaining. To what extent they would then take action about anonymous characters on 3rd party sites is difficult to know. I'm not sure they can take action, but it's hard if no one actually takes the step of lodging a complaint about it.
At the same time, while there is a lot of grrr gon in this thread, there's also this type of thing occuring too:

What this doesn't seem to be so much is a situation only related to one group. It's a situation related to individuals who don't know where the boundaries of decency lie within the community and all of them are worth addressing, no matter if it's gons, TISHU or any other group.
Over on reddit at the moment there is a lot of finger pointing claiming no one has any moral ground because all sides are doing this. To me that is rubbish. It doesn't matter what side someone is on. It's about individuals doing stupid things and the behaviour of those individuals should be addressed, with banning where appropriate (eg. like the Vile Rat impersonator in TISHU above. That should just be a straight out ban of all accounts in my view).

This is not something that goes on just on 3rd party forums, it's rife within the game as evidenced by the Vile Rat character appropriation in the last couple of days, what happened with the death of the BoB guy, the pubescent diatribe that infects many corp teamspeaks and chats, and drives many women to female only corps, and on it goes ad nauseum.
To suggest this is nothing worth getting upset over is to accept that this kind of behaviour is normal, and it's not. In the same way juvenile and disruptive participants are kicked from comms and corps so should players who exhibit these kinds of attitudes and behaviours. Yes the community at large is responsible, but as part of that so should this be lead by CCP and corp/alliance heads. These kinds of attitudes and behaviours are toxic, and it disturbs me that we more or less turn a blind eye to this in how we see and represent the EVE culture.
I know this is not all of EVE players, but surely there should be an active desire to educate as to what is acceptable. |
