Well, topic says all, really. Would be really cool if you can have the choice to let the autopilot to turn on AB's upon exiting warp. *Very* usefull for long cargo hauls in industrial ships.

Soooooo right...!
I totaly agree with you and was just thinking about the same thing.
I don't understand why (in a world where technologie is advanced enough to allow human travel in space, where our autopilot is clever engouh to define our flight path according to regions security or cargo illegality) we still have to manualy launch the AB...
At least we should have an option like "autolauch AB when approaching stargates".
That changes nothing to the gameplay. It just gives more time for players to focus on other more relevant part of the game.

no - any use of a feature like this sets a precedent for the use of macros.
if u want to travel afk then u accept the fact it will take longer.
if u want to make use of mods u have fitted then make the effort. -

Once again...
The advantage of the autopilot is that you don't have to fly the ship, it goes where you want it to go while you shower/nap/read/etc. The trade-off is that it doesn't hit bookmarks, doesn't shield-boost, armor-rep, turn on resistance mods, or AB/MWD to the gates. If you want those things to happen, sit at the keyboard. If you don't want to sit at the keyboard, that's what you are giving up. It is an opportunity cost, plain and simple.

Agreed. There is no reason why your ABs' shouldn't kick on automatically when you drop out of warp. I could never understand why this simple thing was never programed into the game.

From a scifi technology standpoint it makes no sense... but from a game play standpoint it makes perfect sense. They don't put that in for the same reason why they don't let autopilots use instas. Or give mining barges indy size cargo bays. They don't want to game to be so easy to play that you don't even have to be at your computer to make tons of money.

Dude, if I wanted, I could make a Macro to turn them on automaticly.
What he is suggesting is to make them be ABLE to be set to do this!
DO NOT LET MACRO-F***ING-MINERS RUIN EVE FOR EVERYONE ELSE!

who said anything about macro-miners. i said macros, regardless of what they are used for. and btw if u did u would be in breach of the EULA.
as a couple of posters above have said, this is a game, play it yourself dont get the computer to do everything for u.
if we start having this where does it stop. i saw a thread other day asking for facility that automatically turns on shield boosters as soon as u have x% damage and switches them off again once shields are back at 100%.
do we let people have facility that automatically activates all guns on targets when someone shoots at them.
do we let people have a facility that automatically activates tracking mods every time your guns start firing in case u forget.
do we let people have a facility that automatically activats your cap injector every time your cap gets below a certain level.
if you dont want to play the game then dont play it. dont ask for in-game, sanctioned macros that do everything for u.

I want CCP to add a button that will make my ship automatically mine, bring the ore to station, and then mine again, and once the ore gets to a certain amount it automatically searches all the markets to see if the ore is worth more as is or refined, and then automatically sells the minerals/ore to the highest buyers (and uses AB), then returns to mine. If a rat shows up then it automatically attacks it and sells what ever loot it drops at the highest price and then goes back to what it was doing. [/sarcasm]
I agree. If you want to play the game, then play it.
I think CCP was already generous enough to allow the game to be played windowed and put it audio alerts to let you know what's going on while you do something else.
You could easily do something else while you travel. When you hear "approching Stargate" switch back, click your AB, and then go back to what you were doing. It takes 3 seconds.
I read these forums while I travel.

Its quite simple: CCP wants you to play the game, rather than run it while AFK.

If thats so how can auto-pilot make a request to jump through a gate, if i were doing it manually id have to select the option rather than fly toward the stargate.
Auto-pilot is already letting you go afk by doing this function for you.

this doesn't however gain u any advantage in time to travel.
if u travel afk u accept that it will take longer.
if u want the advantage of being able to use your mods to travel faster then u shouldn't get that afk. -

.. With an opportunity cost of it not going to bookmarks or using the AB/MWD. Why is cause-effect, opportunity cost, and the concept of making choices so hard to understand?

There are certain things that are redundant, repetative and tedious. Jumpgates and traveling could be considered one of those.
There seems to be people hell bent on maintaining the status quo. When I'm doing kill missions and my agent gives me the dreaded 5 jump courier mission, yeah I wish i could run my afterburners AFK.
By all means keep the game nauseatingly tedious. Yeah thats a good plan. Force me to baby sit my Iteron and through every jump gate. Oh joy, makes me want to log on and do a courier mission.
I have seen the Arctic Circle... And it is round. |

Ur afk, the tradeoff is that ur not there if something happens (not like u could do much if u were targetted while flying ur indy anyways, but thats not the point) but i don't see the problem of the AP activating ur MWD/AB automatically as it should be considered part of the propulsionsystem ur AP is controlling allready.
Offcourse it should never turn into AP controlling ur defences as well, cuz then it would be an AI and not an AP.
U set ur waypoints, activate AP and it goes on it's merry way, warps to gate, activates AB/MWD module if present (like suggested u could even set it to 'controlled/not controlled by AP') jumps when within 2.5km, warps to gate, activates AB/MWD module if present, rince and repeat.

Isnt autopilot a macro in the first place? Its stupid to have to just sit there and click ONCE every 5 minutes to turn on afterburner. This is not "gameplay".. this is stupidity...

I have no idea what a macro would have to do with this, can you possibly explain how enabling this feature would make macros a bigger problem? "now because my afterburner turns on with autopilot i will go make a macro to (insert random thing here)"
That being said i think its a silly idea... if you want to travel afk there are some risks and costs.
