I think retreating to hold less space is probably a good idea with citadels. Wont these things turn systems into cities?

Seems nobody here played on the test server if they think this is a nerf to carriers. The new fighters do MORE damage collectively and can apply it to smaller ships. Including the utility of the new support fighters that can ECM, web and point. The ECMs most importantly put carriers above dreads (and supers if your lucky) in a hitting match. Other things like the 5km lock range, general fighter controls allow you to set orbit distance of the fighters, emergency hull energiser allows you to survive drive by DDs, mids and lows are free due to support fighters. The list can go on.
All in all this is a buff to carriers. |

Hey there all yous EVE players.
This patch sounds cool and as I am a experimenter (TEST PILOT) for myself and corp mates, also I have a member who LOVES new situations like this so JUST hold on to your undies and take the ride. If you don't like the change or cannot grasp the concept of new fighters and new skilling then either TELL CCP about it and what can be done or just simply sell your CAPS, no fuss no tears. Let the winds of evolution roll on.
Let the patch roll in and get back to some good old fastion EVE.
P.S this is my opinion so do not rap me for my voicing this...... I think CCP is going in a great direction. |

so ive been training the FAX skills since they were released (as in, before they announced they were gonna use existing carrier skill) to get a head start, remapped and implanted for max SP/hr and cheekily decided to keep training until the skills were revoked and the SP reimbursed, thinking i could then distribute the copious amounts of SP back into new skills like light fighters and etc...
**** me i guess, right?
sigh Because you can't read I've made things bolder Quote:This will still happen in the coming weeks (Or at the latest by the next release). well, i planned on putting that SP directly into the new fighter skills and buffing the hangar size one which are not trained at all, so this makes me completly useless post patch...but thanks for trying to be edgy i guess So you intentionally gamed the system and tried to exploit a loophole to earn more free skillpoints and you want CCP to address your needs when it turns out that won't work exactly as planned? Wow. How is it "free" skill points? I know several people who have "racial fax" to level 4, trained before CCP changed their mind. Right now, they are not only 500 mil out of pocket but also have useless SP. There was nothing "free" about training a skill CCP decided to remove. Wow indeed.

This may be true, but it comes at the cost of manually targeting everything. This nerfs the popular semi-afk 'ratting carriers' of deep nullsec. They can still do the combat anomalies, but it will be a fully hands-on activity. The new all-manual world should help performance in large fleet fights. Less drone / fighter automation code running, and fewer total objects b/c a "squad" is treated as one object.
DharkenGray wrote:Fighters still cannot engage an active POS with its shields up on the test server. Can they do this now? I thought fighters didn't have sufficient optimal/falloff range to reach from a shield edge to the tower (any size). Carriers typically drop sentries to siege a tower with force field still up. |

I should have specified that Light Fighters still cannot engage an active POS on the test server.
Carriers (as opposed to Super Carriers) will only be able to deploy Light Fighters and Support Fighters once Citadel is released.
Today on TQ I can attack an active POS with a carrier by deploying sentries.
My specific concern is that tomorrow on TQ I will not be able to attack an active POS with a carrier. |

No you won't, by design carriers will be limited (very much so) to an anti subcap role. Forget shooting POs's with a carrier and just buy a dread.

Free as in unassigned. Being intentionally dense does not do you any favors. If you trained Racial Fleet Aux to 4 before the new plan was announced (not even sure that was possible, but whatever) then you apparently didn't have anything else you needed to train for and are out absolutely nothing because you'll get the isk and skill points back eventually. If you trained them and did have other skills you needed to boost or needed to remap for then you are either:
A) An idiot because CCP is very upfront about how plans may change before implementation and you sacrificed your training time on the dim hope that nothing would change even that far in advance of the eventual patch.
or
B) Were playing the ultimate troll game for just this moment so that if CCP decided change the requirements, refund the points, and push back the skill refund you could crow about it on the forums. If that is case, for what it's worth, well played. Still an idiot, but well played. Hint, one half of that last line is sarcastic. |

What is wrong with putting them in the cargo, fleet hanger or at the very least the hanger in the same station as the carrier? Isn't this what you used to do? Hell you could even leave them where they are but unable to be launched or unable to undock with them still there.

Nothing - your 'understanding' is wrong, I'm afraid.
It is the Fighter Bomber skill that is being converted to Heavy Fighters.
There are two new skills that you have been able to buy and train for several weeks in advance - Light Fighters and Support Fighters. Just about every carrier pilot will have these to IV by now.

Indeed indeed. I managed to get 5 toons trained to level 3 in all 4 racial Auxiliary skills before CCP announced they were "rethinking" the whole thing. 10 billion in skill books because (initially) CCP told us if we didn't train the skill we would lose our (racial) Carrier skill in this expansion (and yes, all 5 toons are trained to level 4 or better in each racial carrier skill). So yeah, I scrambled to get the books and start training as soon as the new expansion was released.
Seemed easy enough for them to seed the skill books. Seemed easy enough to collect the (hundreds of billions ?) of isk for the books. Seemed easy enough to let us train the skills.
But now they've encountered some complications don't feel confident in refunded us the isk and skill points ? And might not be able to do it until the next expansion (scheduled for this "summer") ? Seems a little.........odd. |

I don't think it's that bad really. The new carrier can not use any drones anyway, so you won't be losing any firepower etc. Yes, it might be a bit of a hassle that your normal subcap-drones in your carrier are not at the same station, but you can only use them in subcaps anyways. |

Not really "gaming the system" and the SP is not free in any sense of the word, in fact, I'm unsure how you could consider it free SP at all. The SP that the pilot planned to use was accrued in the normal manner and CCP did say originally that they would be reimbursing the costs and any trained SP for those skills during the update. maybe you meant to say "unallocated"?
So to be fair, the pilot's actions were based on the statements of CCP and their concern now that the announcement has been made that things will not be as we were told is Justified.
Should the pilot have stopped training the skills they knew would be defunct? Given CCP's need to make short notice changes at times, yes, but was the pilot "wrong" to continue to train those skills based on the original statement by CCP?, no.
