Hello so i recently have moved down to null sec and have started ratting. i was wondering if it would be better to ratt with a Ishtar or a Nightmare. i Currently am using the Nightmare it cost about 750 million ISK. so my questions are is the Ishtar better then nightmare in Ratting Efficiency? If so do you have any Ishtar Fits? Even if nightmare is better how much better, is it better to Risk a Expensive ship for that extra Efficiency? any responses would be appreciated. |

Your nightmare is probably faster at killing the rats but is also a bigger and easier target to catch than the ishtar. The ishtar is 1 of the best and most versitile nullsec ratting ships in my experience, only being pretty weak vs Angels due to the explosive resist hole. Its alot cheaper to fit that the nightmare, more agile so in those close encounters you have a few seconds less to align, and its alot less painful to lose than the nightmare when you inevitably get caught. I used to run ishtars with cloak, scan probe launcher, RR (for repping damage drones in the field) and a salvager. Use a combo of sentries, heavies and maybe some lights for good measure. and always a set of med ECM drones to give you another chance to get away if tackled. I lost a few over the years, but made a hell of alot more isk than i lost and didn't give anyone a big fat juicy KM in the process.
If however you are just going to be sat in 1 system running Havens and Santums, then the nightmare would be my prefered choice, just stay aligned and always have 1 eye on local/D-scan.

You can have a battleship for ratting that doesn't cost 700 million. A Maelstrom, a cruise Raven, a cruise Typhoon, and others will all do great damage for half the cost. A passive Drake would also do the job, and some other battle cruisers get better damage than the Drake. Also much less risk than a Nightmare. |

If you moved into Sansha/Bloodraider space then the Nightmare hits right into the heart of their resist profiles. It's meh for Guristas and Serpentis and heck naw in Angel.
Having no idea your skills, I will say this. When in doubt? Rattlesnake. You'll always be shooting into a resist hole, even if it's only secondary one. Dual weapon system sexiness dps. Plus they're as cheap as chips...ish as far as faction hulls go.
Navy Domi is another dual weapon system ship but it's a complete Mongrel to get any sort of a decent fit out of it. |
