Hello, i just started to play EVE and think its a really great game. After trying to make some missions after the tutorial i noticed i need a stronger Ship.
Kestrel or Merlin are the two ships i have in mind. I dont know which of these two ships is better for Agent missions but i think the Kestrel, because i want to focus on missiles.
But i dont know what kind of equipment i should put in the High- Med and Lowslots.
Which do you guys think are the necessary things to equip?
I already searched the forums but couldnt find a decent Ship build.
It would be nice if someone could give me an advise.
Thanks in advance and see you guys ingame
Have fun !!

A good place to go looking for good setups for ships is the Ships and Modules forum, one of the stickies in there contains a list of many threads about the various setups being used.

My kestrel setup that I used to use before moving onto a Caracal:
High: 3x 'Malkuth' standard missile launchers I
Med: 1x Small Converse Deflection Analyzer I 2x Magnetic Scatter Amplifier I
Low: 1x Ballistic Control System I 1x Overdrive Injector System I
Looking back now it was an odd-ball 'what was I thinking' setup. Still, it got me through a lot of lvl 1 missions and even 1/2 way through "Worlds Collide" before I got concorded - but that's another story.

I really like the Kestrel myself. Nice punch and a fair cargo bay.
Get some energy management skills and apps and equip 4 missile lanchers and afterburner and a webifier you are ready for some action.
Some more tips can you probably find here - Kessy Lovers

I loved my kessy too. It even survived one venture into level 2 missions. Just 1 though :P
I had rockets, ab, shield boosting and a pdu was also involved i think. I choose the kestrel becaue i wanted to focus on missiles too. I jsut can't be bothered with optimal ranges :) It of course has less grid and cpu than the merlin and it's hard to fit everyting on it with limited skills. Hence my rockets. I always seen the kestrel as a short range orbit at 500 ship, whereas the merlin is longer range. |

OK, with the Kestrel you have two choices....Standard Missile launchers or Rockets. IMHO, if you go with Standards, you will probably fit shield tank of some sort in the mids. If you go with rockets, most people will tell you to fit armour tank....usually the biggest armour plate you can fit (400mm would be the max).
Unless you have good skills, you'll have a hard time fitting 4 standard missile launchers. I have about 5.5 million skill points and I could only do it with a Micro Auxialiary Power core and a Power Diagnostic System in low slots.

If your character has no launcher skills, the Kestrel will be useless. Take a moment to look over your characters skills to find what weapon types will deliver the best damage. Missile weapons have great range and damage for newbie players, but if you have high energy weapon skills instead then go for the energy weapon mount points.

A Merlin is better for a new player to start out with. It has enough powergrid to fit:
2x 125mm rail 2x standard missile launcher
1MN afterburner small shield booster 2x shield resistance amplifiers
damage mod (magnetic field stabilizer or ballistic control system) plus a nanofiber or some other 0/0 grid/cpu item
All that is with fitting skills easily attainable by a new player (Engineering, Electronics, and Weapon Upgrades; I think having all those at level three was plenty). If you were to go with a Kestrel as a new player, you'd have fitting problems.
Also, the Merlin's bonus makes the ship very sturdy and hard to kill. Plus, it looks way better than the Kestrel.
