After all for the last few years CCP have been making new graphic content/assets way more intensive than what the average PC can handle today and scaling them down for the EVE client, it's not hard to imagine them doing the same for Dust. Dust is a new type of title for both CCP and Sony; with some exciting future potential. I'd be very concerned if Sony was not working with CCP to ensure that the game would be able to take advantage of a new platform allegedly said to be ready before Dust 514's release date. But that is entirely speculation. i'm worried about their involvement with planetside 2 and where their loyalties lie.
planetside 2 or Dust sony still makes moneys why not from both?

If he really made Tabula Ralsa then that only affirms my calling of him an idiot. Considering he's suing the company that made it.
In other words he really didnt make it and just only put his name on it and that is highly irresponsible.

No, it wasn't.
Quote:It will likely be backwards compatible, but even if it is it isn't likely to last long. There's a fair chance it will have selected backwards compatibility with PS3 titles, but I would fully expect it to be compatible with all PS1 titles since emulation on that front is a pretty easy thing to do. A PS2 emulation setup is possible as well. Considering Sony's recent efforts with releasing PS2 titles directly on the PlayStation Network, I would say there's a fair chance for it.
Quote:How many people continued playing ps1 games on the ps2? And the ps2's on the ps3? A lot. Sony releases PS1 and PS2 games on the PlayStation Network and many people buy and play them. Furthermore, HD conversions of PS2 titles have sold very well.
Quote:Not to mention the FPS crowd typically has an attention span of at most 3 months.. Did you ever consider the fact that this is most likely the target reaction that many developers and publishers aim for? Console games typically have some closed end development and therefore a good amount of money is made off of sequels. Once fans of a game are shown the newer and shinier version of what is nearly the same game they're playing, of course they're going to lose some interest in the older version they've been playing for so long. Interest in an existing title remains as long as there is sufficient support and content to keep the community going. This is evidenced in just about every popular online multiplayer game. (Hint: You made a post on a forum for a game that demonstrates exactly this.)
Dust's longevity mainly depends on three things: 1.) Is it fun? 2.) Does it have a lot of unique content for players to interact with? 3.) Is that content actively supported? If CCP can nail those three things down, then they will have something special on their hands. Dust's growth, however, is certainly questionable due to it being limited to a single platform, but that is something I do not expect to last for a very long time. |

Interesting viewpoint. Destination Games developed Tabula Rasa (With Richard Garriot as part of that). NCSoft was the publisher of Tabula Rasa. But Garriott was also employed by NCSoft. It is a murky point.

Garriot is slightly bonkers and well past his use-by date, my friend. Take anything he says with a pinch of salt. If he really was in charge of the entire game development he should have sued ALOT sooner like before the game came out if he was truely responsible individual.

No they don't. Planetside players stuck with that game for a LONG time. The same will happen with Dust if it's a well made game. Just because players buy a new FPS when it comes out doesn't mean they have an "attention span of 3 months", or that the game they used to play dies.... |

At the risk of drawing the ire of the consoletards, planetside was a PC game.
The tradition of small holdouts keeping games alive well past their due date is a strong one on PC. I played tribes vengeance for two years after most people would have said it was well dead. There were a grand total of ~30 people playing in Australia at the time.
I've never yet seen that happen on console, mostly because servers for consoles are hosted by the game manufacturer, and when players drop below a critical threshold they shut them down, see halo 1 and 2. Count me in as one of them. Originally I purchased the PS3 that had backwards compatibility with PS1 and PS2 games, but it was emulated. I wanted the real deal, so I traded my brand new PS3 for an older model that was purchased when they were still putting the Emotion Engine chips from the PS2 into them...no PS2 emulation for me! So yeah, some of us DO play the older games on our PS3's still. "The world as we know it came about through an anomaly (anomou)" (The Gospel of Philip, 1-5)-á |

It's hard to say, after all SOE president John Smedley is an EVE online player and EVE was one of the major influences for PS2.
And according to Matt Higby...

I said it elsewhere but people were still playing Halo 2 online multiplayer from 2004 until 2010 when MS shut down the online services for original xbox games. It's a lot harder to find other instances of that because consoles have only had online gaming for in the last decade, and it wasn't until the 360 and PS3 that these online services for consoles really kicked off.
It's the same as Halo Reach, in my opinion a much better game than Halo 3, yet people are still playing Halo 3 multiplayer extensively and that's been out for a good few years now. Same with CoD, 4 is still being played online.
Give people a good multiplayer experience and it will be played to death, doesn't matter if it's on the console or PC, but eventually even these games run out of juice out of lack of support, a problem Dust won't have. I just hope they nail the multiplayer. |

Not all FPS's have games that only have servers hosted by the game maker.
Also, if a game like Planetside was made for the ps3, I guarantee the same effect would take place, the time played on the game would be just as long. |

There is nothing PC about the original Planet Side.
Why you ask?
If it says yes this would feel at home on a console then it failed the PC shooter test.
There is plenty of PC in the original Ghost Recon. Battlefields before bad companies and many others
