Eve was a pretty good game when I first started playing in September. However with the Castor update, CCP substantially changed the way the game is played. Many people I know [30 individuals some with 2 or more accounts] are planning on cancelling their subscriptions. I for one found out that Battleship mining in empire space no longer works which is a major revenue killer. I believe that new players to Eve will find the game with the Castor update unappealing and just plain to much work.
I'll try to play for 3 or 4 days but if all that everyone is complaining about is true e.g. ungodly long times for travel, inability to generate sufficent income to purchase items, then I to will quit playing Eve [which means 5 paying accounts will be cancelled].
I believe CCP made a grevious error in judgement.

Whatever. Tuning will always occur. I for one will get 10 new accouts cause I like the game so much more now, and I know 4,542 people that are getting new ones because of the new features. So there. :-)
I am sure that if it sucks, they will change it. Just take a pill and calm down a bit, geez. the patch has been here for 10 minutes already, give it time. -Domaru

No income?? Dude with all the bounties on rats going up you can make some serious isk right in empire space. Also with the new mineral refining skills it gives you even more chances of making money. I have only been on for 20 mins but I see nothing but improvments. It will just take some time to get used to thats all. Besides, just because something seems like it has changed for the worse for you, it may have been changed to fix a problem else where. The more people that play this game more problems and exploits are found. They change things because they believe it is for the good of thw whole, not the good of the few. ________________________________________________ May the Force be with you. |

Well CCP really screwed this one up. It is now impossible to mine in 0.0 space. Even with a fleet flying cover the spawns are so close and so quick you don't have a chance. I thought CCP wanted to push people out of empire space. This patch will have the reverse effect. And as to travel times, screw you CCP if you think I'm gonna pay my hard earned money to do nothing but travel for 5 hours a night to get anywhere. It just amazes me how clueless the devs really are. ---

idiots. 10 x 12 per month is 120 bux. LOL i'll save that and buy 4 new games to "test". What are you gaining by mining/producing things that are not really there?
The good of the whole? um.. the game is comprised of tons of people that cannot schedule their REAL LIFE times to do corp things especially in a small corp. If REAL LIFE things come up, you HALT an entire operation in a small corp. This was not considered at all.
people can play this game and make billions in the trade channel solo. If you have to spend your time traveling, possibility of losin a ship, then having 10 people go with you to babysit your cargo... its not gonna work. Time in game is not as valuable is time irl.
See through the code my brother

You had a chance to test it like everyone else did. If you choose to be suprised, that is your option. Next time, perhaps being a bit proactive would be a good thing for you. then you can have more of a say in direction and tuning *before* the patch goes to production. -Domaru

ok that wins the 'oddest dev note ive ever seen' prize.
i guess checking was still being done on ore distro...? I'd love to know how one "turns off" mining but keeps the game running, too. Neat trick...

Quote: I for one found out that Battleship mining in empire space no longer works which is a major revenue killer.
It seems to me (for the flamers, that phrase means this is an opinion piece, not an instruction piece) that CCP wouldn't want battleship mining in empire space for a couple reasons:
- mining in empire space with a battleship was generating too much revenue too quickly for too many and not fair to the new player trying to get started
- substantial mining in empire space is (erm, was?) riskless (particularly in a battleship) which is the antithesis to the 'great reward from overcoming great risk' mantra
I do recognize your other point though; some people are afraid of change. I sincerely hope you (and your five accounts) stick around and earn the potential these changes are meant to enable; either way, I hope the best for you.
Well met.

Well with the proper AB'S and micro's I dont find it to bad, it will take a bit of time to get used too, but on the hole I think it looks very promising ==================================================

Isn't it a bit over reactionary to make such broad sweeping statements about a patch that has been live for less than 24 hours.
The content change is so dramatic how can anyone possible "know" whether it is good or bad is such a short period of time?
How about just playing it a while, identify the bugs, and after a reasonable period of time has elapse then bring your broad sweeping thoughts to the boards? just a thought.
If you can catch me you can have me. |

Dom.. It seems a reality check is in order for you and quite a few other that are commeting on the people complaining.
Many players don't have the time to set up a second install of the Eve client on their systems with a different patch for Chaos than for Tranq to test patches before they come out. Another posibility is that many players don't have the technical expertise to get multiple copies of a client with different patches running on a single home system. Not all of us are IT professionals by day and space captains by night. There is a reason for the terms 'developer' and 'user' after all.
I for one read the forums and had an idea what was coming but several things caught me by suprise. I can't be sure if they are bugs or not because of another major issue with software development: documentation. I had to hunt through dozens of threads to learn about Castor instead of having a single page or site to go to. This goes to the Manager principle of software development. If an end-user can't find something in five minutes s/he will probably stop looking for it unless they need it immediately. Yell at users all you want for being lazy but Executive Summaries exist at the front of every grant proposal for a reason.
Now for the fun part, flame away.

One way mining was nerfed is the 0.9 system I inhabit has turned into a 0.8 system(ie, rats and thus danger for AFK mining). If you can catch me you can have me. |

I Love Castor...really...The number of bugs I found so far is much less than I feared...Myself I am dealing with a large software project, and so I have a good understanding of the problems which occur when deploying an internal build to the public. On the other hand we, the players, are also resonsible for these bugs. If we leave out the last week, Chaos was only visited by a hand full of players to hunt these bugs. On the other hand CCP could employ a few douzen testers, but these would increase the monthly cost of subscription. I like castor. Really. And most of my corp mates see great potential in it. Just my to 0.01 ISK +++ Trade...good for you, good for me +++ |

I think it is so funny...I have been playing MMORPGs since before Ultima Online. Funny now that I think about it, I been doing MMORPGs since I was 13y/o and Im married, Own a buisness, and still play MMORPGs at the age of 23y/o. Basicly 10 years later and NOTHING has really changed in MMORPGs. Execpt Character Rollbacks and not Seen as much any more, unless just after launch.
But you will still encounter Changes in the game, it is not CCP trying to attack anyone, they do the changes based on not one or two opinions, they base changes on the masses. So if you have a problem with it, dont yell at CCP, they are doing what any MMORPG company would do to satisfy the masses, and once they feel this out, things will be adjusted accordingly, You will just have to be patient and the thing Ive noticed about EVE its a very slow paced game, if you looking for rocket smashing and jumping on bounce pads, and backflips, your not gonna find that here. Go look for a FPS. Or a FPSMMORPG like Planetside, but I guarentee you will still cry like a little baby there every time a Big PAtch Comes out.

I think too many people are use to doing business b4 Castor was implemented. There should be no reason to complain since most of the things implemented could have been found on the test server. It just comes down to people unwilling to adapt to the changes.
For all those thinking about leaving, can I have your stuff before you go?
When it comes down to it, it is only a game. If it is impossible to mine like the old way find a better way of doing business like using harvestor drones which does not use cap.
I must admit this patch has made it pretty hard but it forces you build a well rounded character in all areas. ______________________
