Is there a reason to do so?
is it really worth that extra 2% ?
or do some of you there look at it as 2% x turrets fitted? so in my case an extra 12% per volley that hits.
or am I just grasping at straws?. -

EVE is a game of inches. That 2% could be the difference between overcoming someone's tank or not. Is it something you should do right away? No, but if you're looking for that extra little edge... ---

Compare it to other skills you could train to upgrade your DPS... then calculate the total percentage DPS increase vs. the time to train. Figure out what's best.
And don't forget about drone dps, provided you're flying a ship that has a reasonable bay... might be faster and offer more dps to work on drone skills.

what would u guys think about this situation
u have most support skills lvl 5 but large spec on guns lvl 4 and same with t2 drones..so only thing left it to max to lvl 5
or would it be better to get the 2ndary race to spec lvl 4?
so now u can choose ur ship ---------------------

I would get ALL gunnery support skills to level 5, train any ship skills to level 5 that I didn't already have (e.g. if you fly command ships, train command ships 5) and then train ANY SUPPORT SKILLS that affect your ship to at least level 4. Finally, I would go back and do gunnery spec 5 for the ship class you fly most often.

My 2nd chr is now working on medium beam spec V then will work on medium pulse spec 5. then head towards bs's as all gun related skills are at V.. -

That's how I did it. But did it so that all ships I commonly fly have lvl 5 in ship skill, and lvl 4 in all support skills, then lvl 5 in all gunnery support skills and virtually all normal support skills. And then lvl 5 in the gunnery specs...
They're worth it, but IMHO, if you're below 30mil sp, there's bound to be something more usefull left.

Edited by: Spaced Skunk on 01/03/2007 11:20:14 Its worth it if;
1. You have the relevant spaceship commands to level 5 - e.g battlecruisers to lvl 5 and relevant cruiser skill to level 5, if you are speccing medium guns to level 5.
2. You really like the weapons your training spec for, and use them most of the time.
3. Surgical Strike/Rapid Firing/Sharpshooter/Motion Prediction/Controlled Bursts (only if Amarr or Gallente for controlled bursts) is at level 5.
4. Advanced Weapons Upgrades is at least 4.
5. Skills that support your ships setup role are above par (4 or higher), for example, if you are going for close range Harbinger, you'll want to be able to use t2 tanking skills, as this is more beneficial than an extra 2% damage to your guns.
Other than that yes, gun specialisations to lvl 5 means your cool.

Percentages do not work that way my amigo.
Look I don't want to sound harsh here but you basically just have to show some iniative. Look at your character sheet, look at what you could train instead, and decide for yourself what is the best choice for you. It doesn't necessarily have to be what will give you a little more dps or a better tank, maybe you just want to train them because you like having a big line of level 5 skills on your gunnery sheet. I mean the sad fact of it is that by the time you get to considering whether to train this 2% or that 2% it's such a dumb little increase that any sensible person isn't going to lose any sleep either way.
Basically if you're a crappy pilot you'll still be a crappy pilot with 2% more damage and if you're a winner you'll still win with 2% less so knock yourself out and do what you think will make you happy.

Think of it as the last little bit of damage you can possibly squeeze out. For time spent versus increase in damage, it's more or less bottom of the list; if you have anything else productive to be doing, you should probably do that instead. But if you're absolutely freakin' perfect in other respects and would just be sitting around training up corporate management skills that you'll never use, sure, why not?

As far as Gunnery V is concerned, you don't train it for the 2% RoF bonus... You train it because it is a prerequisite for:
A) Tracking Computers B) Trajectory Analysis skill
*I made the above post with the full understanding that I would probably be flamed for my opinions.* |
