I'm a freelancer and I love the potential and the challenge. As a single person I don't think it would be wise for freelancers to go it along in hostile space unless with friends and I do believe even without a corp, small corps or groups of individuals from different corps or races can still band together. They do this all the time in other MMOs why can't they do it here?
I'm a freelancer and I'm dedicated to see how far I can take this course. I consider myself quite successful in my operations in the Gemini period of EVE, and now I look forward to the challenges posed by the Castor period.
I don't have to go 0.0 directly. The RPG element in this game has run its course during the previous age. Dangerous areas are supposed to be dangerous; instead they have become repetitious "farm" and "mine" land. I think it's just right to put the bite and the fear back to 0.0 space. I think it's time to put the respect back into the environment of this game, for NPCs to be bad ass. For those who lost their ships ( and I nearly lost one myself) take this as your 9/11 or your Pearl Harbor. Time to toughen up. You had it easy, now face the challenge. This is a game and a game is only meaningful if it's challenging.
Yes I will adapt. First I will start with 0.4 systems for now like a newb once more and work my way down. I think I can survive on the bounties for a while, and help cover people on local. With enough relationships and alliances, as well as tech 2 upgrades on my ships, we will challenge 0.0 space again.
I will confidently predict after a week or two of teeth gnashing and people losing ships, some people will adapt, and others will follow to turn the odds even against seemingly impossible NPC forces. I've been in this game long enough to see what seemed to be ridiculously difficult goals eventually conquered, and not just conquered but even repetitiously accomplished to be the point of menial routine. It will be done, and give some time, you will have hunters in single ships knocking out those armadas of npcs over the belts.
I remembered the first time I had my cruiser, or at least one of my cruisers. A Sansha Butcher nearly balded my shields and a pack of 5K Enslavers and 4K Slavehunters left my Celestis smoking and burning in a 0.3 system. Not too long ago, I flew a Maller against six to eight 40K Marauders and thrashed them without losing a third of my shields. And that was pretty routine---and many people accomplish these feats in a regular to daily basis.
So yeah, I won't underestimate the way people would adapt to the challenges presented.
Thumbs up yeah for the patch. For the first time in months I am truly excited about the game.
