WTB: Lots of Strontium
Over eighteen months ago, I sought out and spoke with many organizations with regard to my alliance establishing a foothold in deep space. This plan was specifically geared toward making sure the MC would be able to stay self-sufficient and provide the best services possible to any customer. Many expressed interest in the proposal; the thought of having the MC in their ôback pocketö seemed appealingà but not to us. ThatÆs not what we were looking for. We wanted a business partner, not to be someoneÆs backyard Militia force or Special Forces.
Of all the alliances I approached and spoke with at that time, only one understood our needs; even more telling, only one still exists today. That alliance is Band of Brothers. They understood what the MC was and have never placed demands upon us beyond the scope of our original business agreement. The bottom line is that Band of Brothers knows how to conduct good business. Perhaps others who exist in EVE today do as well, but weÆve not had the pleasure of hearing a proposal from them. Which brings us to todayà
Two weeks ago, the MC completed a contract against a select number of northern alliances (contract report pending completion). Since that time, the MC has kept our own counsel, waiting to see if any of the entities opposing Band of Brothers would come forward with an offer worthy of our services. Believe me when I say that we were curious to see what might happen. While itÆs obvious that many have doubts about the MCÆs neutrality, we held out hope that some of the leaders of the æCoalitionÆ would at least attempt to see past all of the assumptions and opinions on these forums and present us with a real dilemma.
Yet during this, the absolute height of a chance to possibly remove Band of Brothers from power, not one offer was made. Instead, over the last two weeks, there have been repeated incursions by Coalition forces into MC space and multiple attacks against small MC starbases. Our responses to these incidents have been defensive in natureà until now.
Today the MC accepts the largest contract in our history. As of downtime today, the Mercenary Coalition is officially in the employ of the Band of Brothers alliance with the purpose of assisting them and their allies against the æNorthern CoalitionÆ. Said contract will last until the terms of completion are met. This decision is made with the full knowledge of the current EVE political landscape. We understand and accept this reality as the greatest challenge ever presented to us by a client.
Many believe that accepting this contract ôproves they were right all alongö. Nothing could be further from the truth. The MC does nothing ôfor freeö and now we are unleashed. No matter what happens, we will emerge from this stronger than ever. ItÆs going to be fun!
On a personal note, IÆd be lying if I didnÆt admit to feeling pushed into this a little. The incessant attacks against MC assets served no purpose other than to provoke exactly this response. Even despite the fact that BoB are the best business partners weÆve ever had, I honestly hoped that someone might give us the opportunity to ôprove the Mob wrongö. That really would have been pretty neat to see. However, ultimately, all that matters to us is, ôWho is the highest bidder?ö The answer to that is self-apparent.
The current level of hostility and vitriol on these forums practically ensures that this announcement will be met with some interesting responses. YouÆll not see many in the MC reply to them. This is both a great and a terrible time to be playing EVE. I will work hard to ensure the men and women of my alliance stay professional and focused at all times. IÆll also try to take a lot of screenshots and post up some war reports as events unfold.
Good luck to all and weÆll see you out there! -
