So is it bugged, or not? Should I be careful how far I train up Drone Navigation and Drone Sharp Shooting?

There is still one question that i have in this forum... If you train for a carrier and use fighter drones, if you have navigation above 3, will that end up causing the drones to overshoot the target, and if so, how does that end up effecting the overall damage/ effectiveness of the fighters?

Why can't drones be made smart enough to slow down as they approach a hostile ship? That way we can train Drone Navigation to level 5 and not need to worry about them overshooting the target.
They should also be smart enough to maintain the optimum sped when orbiting a target so that having Drone Navigation at level 5 is not a liability.

Originally by: Veritas Falx People, I tested it using overview speeds about two weeks ago going from DNav 0 to DNav 1. Does not effect orbit speed. End of story.
You must have tested it on a buggy day or something, because every single time I have tested this (about half a dozen) over the last year and a half, including 5 minutes ago, it has worked contrary to what you state.
As I tested this just now, I had a typhoon launch an Orgre I drone (base orbit speed of 250m/s) with 1 drone nav computer active and drone navigation level 4. I burn in a straight line forcing the drone to follow me. On my overview, the drone shows going 375m/s (250 * 1.2 * 1.25). I turn off the nav computer, and the drone slows down to 300m/s (250 * 1.2). I have posted several numbers from my previous testing in this thread (check the text file I linked a few posts up too). I would love to see the measurements you recorded and your system of testing.
Currently:Drone Navigation Skill affects both orbit and MWD speed Drone Navigation Computers affect both orbit and MWD speed Drone Sharpshooting Skill does not have any effect on drone speed or orbit range Having drones that orbit faster is not explicitly better or worse, it helps in some situations, it hurts in others. The trick is identifying the situations it is worse and knowing what to do to make them better.

Edited by: Mawgan on 20/09/2007 02:04:48 Sorry, necro...
Well I guess a side lesson here is that, flying a frig, it might be better to just stop your ship if you're faced with heavy drones, this is of cuase ignoring all other factors. Still, interresting.
And thanks for the numbers Krosis, good info here.

Bump.
My tech 1 heavy drones can't kill a frigate if I equip a drone navigation computer and neither can my tech 1 medium drones.
I'm a new player and I just started experiencing this problem. I opened up a petition and lets see if I will get an answer.
I have drone navigation 3 & drone sharpshooting 1. Maybe that is my problem? As soon as I disabled my drone navigation computer my heavy drones destroyed the frigate with ease.

Thanks for the link. I do appreciate it. I came in here with questions regarding this device, as I just applied one to my ship and I am not noticing much of a difference. It could be me but I will give it a few more tries for good measure. However, am I correct in the assumption that the further the distance the better the computer works?

So you know, trinity fixes navigation so it doesn't affect orbit.

Having even light drones hit their targets really isn't a problem. Maybe Warrior2s shooting a siege mode dread... but don't you have bigger problems by that time?
Nor does Drone Nav affect all drones. Mining Drones, for one, are not affected.
Gotta Ask Mog, is that a real ship in your sig? If so, which one??
