Ok, How many guys out there use their tactical overview in pvp? Im starting to experiment with it and tbh its proving more of a hinderance than a help. Keeping an eye on hostile targets their range, speed etc i used to completely rely on my normal overview (top right) and scrolling out to see just where my targets are. With TO (Tactical overview) swithced on i still have to scroll out to see just where my targets are relative to me because of screen constraints of my computer or the size of whatever ship i am flying compared to surrounding area etc. Of course the TO shows you where the targets are with nice fancy little lines etc but can also add some confusion to a fast paced hostile enviroment with many targets. What with the numbered distance circles and different shading for module ranges etc its easy to lose context of actually what you are doing within the fight itself. Another problem is that like a lot of people i use my ctrl and click on targets in my normal overview to 'fast' lock them, if i do this inadvertantly at the same time as when i am scrolling out to see targets my system map opens up and can become 'bugged' and not close. During a fight just having the system map pop up is a frelling nightmare let alone not being able to close it again. A long long time ago in a distant gaming galaxy called Elite, ships were fitted with a radar which sat in a little window where all your ship readouts are situated in Eve (bottom center)now. This little radar was essentially exactly what the TO is in eve but on a tiny scale. It proved absolutely invaluable to keep a track on targets at a single glance without all the hassle of scrolling out and cluttering up the screen with fancy lines, shadings and distance markers etc. The little radar also had distance markers and lines showing exactly where (in 3d) the hostile ships were relative to yourself......Surely this would be so much simpler, easier and faster to use at a glance than our current TO. Surely also the game mechanics of this little radar are already in place with the current TO and placing it into a small radar bottom or top left of your screen wouldnt be too much of a challenge for our incredibly gifted and intelligent devs with a switch button to change to radar mode or current TO mode or turned completely off?
I have a feeling i'm probably not the first to ask such a question and apologize if i'm repeating a thread elsewhere. However i would like to be pointed in the direction of any threads like this, and would also like to know how other pvpers use their TO. Maybe its just me and i'm just not using the thing correctly.

Actually the first time I undocked during the tutorial I pushed a little button with some circles on it.
I have not closed it once since. If only to be able to automatically understand the level of zoom and the approximate distances in the battlefield. I don't use it to read the range of the guns, but to be able to see at first glance that I have a close-range blob, a sinullngle foe out of my range and a few guys that will be able to tackle me in a few secs (just an example).

A long long time ago in a not so distant gaming galaxy called EVE, there was something almost exactly what you pointed out. But the devs took it out for some reason. Never really figured why.

Thanks for making me feel old lol. I remember playing Elite back in the 80's lol. I am happy to see that someone liked it so much that they created a "cousin" to that game. Just glad they didnt make it so we had to match the rotation of the stations everytime we had to dock. Docking in that game was done manually. I remember it being a real pain in the azz to have to do lol.

Only that thing with Ctrl+Wheel is annoying. And bug with broken and locked Ctrl+Alt+T combo.
All other fine for me (Tactical Overlay helpful if You exactly know what You doing, in conjunction with Overview presets, ofc). -- Best mining place here < |

I started 5-6 months after Eve did so probly before my time, it would be nice to see it back tho.
Ah yes Mr Cleann, i used to love docking at the stations, lol, even my friends used to get me round to dock their ships for them.....and the station entrance was always facing the nearby planet......hmmmmm, wheres my old 48k spectrum,,,,,
Yep Tonto i also use with the overview presets, but i still find it more disstractive than its wort.....and that frelling bug is annoying
Thanks guys for your input
