With the June release on June 28, we bring back events with a completely overhauled design making them much better visible.
Together with this new event "Shadow of the Serpent: Signal the Dawn" we also introduce a new event framework to help you participate in the various tasks of this event and to enable you to influence the EVE Online storyline.
Check out the exciting changes in CCP Affinity's latest blog Shadow of the Serpent: Signal the Dawn.
Please note that all images in the dev blog are placeholders and that as such the text visible in the images does not reflect the event content.

Elenahina wrote:Well, the Dev Blog is a little vague about the actual timing. Is there an event happening "over the next few weeks", or does it all start after June 28th.
Either way, sounds great. More content is always welcome!
It starts on June 28th :)

You know that would mean effort from CCP
Not at all :) This is something completely different to those style of live events and there's room for both to exist!

what will be the behavior when multiple people work together to complete sites/missiones/assignments?
Everyone gets the reward :) So if multiple people are in the site when it is completed, everyone gets the reward.

Circumstantial Evidence wrote:I think more logic should be added to site spawning, so that less sites spawn in systems where less are being completed, (perhaps set a max active number) and those potential spawns are redirected elsewhere. The total number of sites spawning would stay the same. Serenol Marwysgar wrote:I really like this.
One of my "issues" with the previous events were that I had a limited amount of time to play, and finding the event sites took up most of my time. Then there was the unknowns like, "could I do this in a DD, or do I need a CL or BC?" [..snip..] Also, if sites are part of an event there need to be enough of them! As I mentioned before, finding a Crimson or Angel site was very difficult, especially in Hisec (which made me feel that the event was more for Null players than me.)
So yea: accessibility, clarity, availability are important to me to participate. CCP may have an idea of how much loot and value they want to inject into the economy, via site spawn rates. Ofc the "good" loot can be quite rare, I didn't find any of the cooler stuff folks were talking about in the last event, with over 50 sites completed. If combat event sites are made too common, average loot values go down and everyone can gravitate toward their own private site. Less "player interaction" happens, and I don't just mean player pirates. I occasionally found myself in a race for the loot, and some pilots and ship types were better at it. This upcoming event looks like it is going to include a variety of activities, that should help more play styles to participate, and may help overcome any technical limits to combat-only site distribution.
The site spawning issue - we fixed this :) This is pretty much exactly how it will happen now!

Can we expect integration of this with dailies and/or general PvE content in the future?
More types of PvE definitely; we also want to use this to test out new types of PvE :)

The first 4 "challenges" (killing a Drifter with a cruiser will certainly be that) don't even earn you enough for the first "reward", which seems to be a "Thorax"?
So how many of these will an individual need to complete to see, a Gila is it?
A gila was a placeholder reward :)

So how many of these will an individual need to complete to see, a Gila is it? A gila was a placeholder reward :) That doesn't really answer much of anything. A gila is a nice reward - As long as it is worth going after. It isn't judging by the SISI example. It seems from the example on SISI, your not getting a reward for a long time unless all you do is these things and in fairly large groups. So is there a more realistic example of what this is likely to entail, what the rewards are likely to be etc - Or haven't those parts (you know, the basics of time vs risk vs reward) been worked out yet? I'm really not sure Shadow of the serpent thing is a good idea - Even the current lot on display at log in - complete 20 sites (in 2 or 3 different regions) for 2,000 reward points, when the first (unknown) reward is 10,000. Giving nulsec carebears even more opportunity to make, whatever the eventual reward is likely to be - Really? Each part of these seems to have a relatively short completion time (19 hrs 48 mins) remaining on all 4 quests (for want a of better word). So if you don't commit to do these every day, say get 4 of 5 shipyards completed, because you have a life outside eve - you get nothing. I really don't expect a response - judging by your last one, you don't know the answers - Or haven't made them up yet. PS; Is acquiring bulk data every time you log in to SISI now going to be a thing? Is the Launcher not remembering accounts also to become standard - If this hits TQ as is, there will be a lot of disappointed players.
We have balanced and worked out the rewards but we are not announcing exactly what they are as that ruins the fun for the majority of players. The same way we do not announce ahead of time exactly what will be in the loot tables of sites.
To touch on your questions about completion time; there are a few 24 hour challenges, but a very small number compared to the standard challenges. The majority of challenges will expire after 3 days, or if you complete one you automatically receive another which will have a new 3 day expiry time. The reason for 3 days is to give people plenty of time to do whatever challenges they would like but if you end up with 4 challenges you don't like the look of, you aren't forced to do them, you can wait on the expiry. The event will run for 6 weeks, so you absolutely do not have to do challenges everyday to earn the rewards if you do not wish to.

Simeon Lo wrote:I'm very excited! I've been playing EVE for over 8 years and I've never seen anything like this. However, I'm wondering how Shadow of the Serpentis will benefit "Lone Wolf" capsuleers like myself? I solely stick to mission running, manufacturing and exploring. Because, I've been in many corps and alliances, lost tons of ships and isk. All while having loads of fun, frustration and grief. The last corp I was a member of faked an Alliance war by using their alts to form a new alliance. So, they ambushed us and killed the entire corp just to brag and beef up their kill mail reports. Then, they ran off with trillions of our isk and mods! I now fly alone and haven't joined a player controlled corp in over 4 years. (Sorry for the RANT)
So, to clarify. I'm wondering if this new "S.O.S" - Shadow of the Serpentis event will have challenge missions in high sec that will drop rare mods, blueprints and implants. If so, this will finally allow prudent capsuleers who hate traveling to null sec, a chance to get some profitable npc kills and rare loot. Currently, rare loot drops can ONLY be found in null sec. Also, those "Burner Missions" were a total failure! They trick mission running capsuleers into fighting "pvp style" battles against the computer. I lost 8 extremely expensive ships, drones and mods before I finally gave up on burner missions. Or, will this event be something that will only benefit the capsuleers who are willing to risk getting gate camped and ganked while going to Fountain in order to complete a Serpentis Mission site? As far as i can tell. It seems like the nullsec trolls are going to benefit the secret rewards. While honest capsuleers have to wait for these overpriced items to hit the market!
You will be able to complete challenges in high sec if that is your preference and you can also complete challenges and earn rewards doing high sec PVE on your own. All the new event sites will be available in all areas of space.

Sgt Ocker wrote:Five single-run Vendetta BPCs and five single-run Vanquisher BPCs will be available through the Shadow of the Serpent event. The top 5 highest scoring characters during the event will receive Vanquisher BPCs and characters placing 6-10 will receive Vendetta BPCs.
There is a fixed amount of points to be earned in this event, so; What happens if say; 100 players all have the same score at the same time at the end of the event - 95 have dedicated a lot of time chasing the top reward to miss out and 5 of those may get the second top reward while the other 90, just wasted their time?
If more than 10 players are eligible for the top prizes, how will the decision on who wasted their time be made? Will there be some way to track your position in the rankings during the event?
There isn't a fixed amount of points. There is a set number of points required to earn the top tier reward container; everyone is able to earn that reward and then if you want to, you can keep earning points from challenges after that. The players with the top points at the end of the event will win the Vendetta or Vanquisher BPCs.
