Edited by: Drizit on 02/03/2007 06:51:32 As a miner, I want my mining ship and hauler and maybe even a combat ship at a station together. Currently, I have to fly to and fro using shuttles to get back to pick up the next one until both or all three are at the destination station.
What I propose is that we can send ships to a given station. The ship then goes under NPC control and flies to the station we designate and docks. a) They will not fight so they would have to be escorted. b) They use the autopilot rather than warp to 0. c) Will move at base speed + mods - no skill bonus. d) Do not use MWD or AB.
With this idea, a solo miner could move a mining ship and a hauler while escorting them with the combat ship.
It would also be helpful for pilots who have bought a ship but are still training the relevant skills to fly it. They could send it to their home system and escort it on the way so it is in the right place when their skill finishes. This also enables ship builders to move ships to alternative locations to sell them without having to train the necessary skills to fly them.
Limitations:
1) This would require a gang warp principle where all ships accelerate/warp at the speed of the slowest so they all arrive together. 2) The AI would have to wait until all ships are together in the next system before allowing the next warp to commence. 3) For reasons of lag, a limit of two remotely controlled ships with the player flying the third only. 4) Only the player is ganged with the ships they are escorting. 5) They must be escorted. They will undock and wait for the escort ship before moving. If left without an escort for more than an hour or the escort is podded, they become abandoned ships and available for anyone to board. This prevents players from sending unmanned ships into enemy territory to harrass.

Nah, no good. It would make empire into afk-ville and logistics would be easy as pie. Ships shouldn't move without pilots.

This is actually not a bad idea if it were to be done this way or even with the Interbus ways that we have read about before. Hiring NPC's or gang warping your own ships are both very doable ideas.

Why give everyone the ability to move 3 freighters at once, just to make your day easier?

Repackage your barge, and stick it in your hauler, and fly to where you are going.
Or, better yet, go to my Heavy Lifter thread, and Sign it... (Shamelss plug, i know, but shame is really overrated)
