I know Eve has relative older players. I'm 41, but I know there are much older players. Does anybody know how old the oldest player is? Is it Charles White (Max Singularity)?

I knew a 61 year old.
It was awesome listening to his drunken stories of hedonism from "back in the day."
Then his daughter turned 18, someone made a casual (and tasteless) joke about that, he undocked (in what, I can't remember), and promptly began murdering anyone in sight.... all the while yelling in comms for the guy who made the joke to undock and "face him like a man!" (he didn't)
Good times. :)

At 42, Eve is the only MMO I have been in where there is always someone around older than me. My son started when he was 17 and was always the youngest. That was a new experience for him as well. Eve is special... |

It warms me to see young and old players both playing this intelligent game. Most games are pointed towards younger players, but EVE has proven to have unique community, one that will keep the game alive forever! I'll be 58 in a couple of weeks :) We have a lot of folks over 50 in Signal Cartel and at least a few in their 60s, but also a lot of young players. It's fun to see how everyone mixes so well. I'm convinced that a big reason we've been able to curate our Credo-driven "peaceful space hippie explorer" corp culture is because our members' average age is above the median for the game.

Then again last night on mumble we were talking about age and like a solid 1/3rd of people in our channel were under 24, 3 of them were like 19.

What a pleasant surprise to see people my age and significantly older rocking New Eden.
I always had this false notion that I was in the mix with primarily university students or twenty somethings.
I'm in my late 40's and it's great to see players still captivated in their 60's. I look forward to enjoying many many more years undocked.

That could be the 78-year old I heard about soon after I started playing.
I personally know a 64-year old player, and another very entertaining player who's in his early 50s.
Otherwise the players I'm most in touch with are, like me, in their 30s. |

Our village elders used to tell tales around the camp fire about the events you mention. As children, it made our imagination run wild. I do remember the time a young man came to our camp and asked for food and water. As he ate and rested, he told us that he was the son of God and that he would die for our sins. We thought the poor chap had spent a little too much time in the desert sun. Years later, he would be crucified by the Romans for telling the same crazy story. Small world!
Seriously though, I remember ...
Walter Cronkite and the CBS news nightly "Body Count"
JFK, RFK, MLK Assassinations.
Riots in Watts
Kent State
"Duck and cover"
Watching "The day the Earth stood still" at the Drive-In theater.
The Doors.
No Internet, Satellite TV, Computers, Smart phones, or Cable.
My first flight to Disneyland (Disney world was not built yet) on a Continental Boeing 707 with "Real" Women as "Stewardess" who looked pretty, smelled good and smiled.
College, Career, Family, Retirement, Boredom, then...
Eve!

When I was in EVE University, we had one fellow who was in his late 80's - I recall he told me he was 87 years old. A retired engineer, he loved being in fleet ops, especially mining fleets - he enjoyed chatting with other players, and liked the more relaxed atmosphere that mining ops provided. A good guy - everyone liked him.
Not sure what happened to him - last I saw of him was about three years ago.
This gives me hope that I might be able to play EVE Online for another thirty years. :-)
I am an unapologetic fan of EVE Online. My blog: http://nevillesmit.com/ - My Twitter: https://twitter.com/NevilleSmit

some of you remember the first Eden apparently your first Ark floated on water we've come a long way since fire, eh? please tell me again how the big bang caused your hearing loss It wasn't the big bang that blew our ears out. It was big black disks, kind of like CDs, playing stuff like "Black Magic Woman," "Paranoid," "Black Dog," "Stranglehold," "La Villa Strangiato," or "Shoot to Thrill." and are you sure it wasn't snacking on paint chips as a child True, we kids back then did have lead in our paint chips. Also lead in our gasoline exhaust. And on summer evenings a truck drove around town spraying a fog of DDT to kill the mosquitoes. What doesn't kill you can only make you... stronger?

Hey Folks, I just found this ... Just read, remenber and smile ...
TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the1930's 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's !!
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes. Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking. As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags. Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat. We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this. We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank koolade made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because . WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING! We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem. We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or chat rooms..........
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents. We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever. We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes. We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them! Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law! These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever! The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned
HOW TO
DEAL WITH IT ALL!
If YOU are one of them . . . CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good.
And while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were.
Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!

Things I remember: Being in Saigon, before the name change. Deep in the Mekong, watching Puff unload at night, like someone peeing red out of the night sky. In the North Atlantic, taking a wave, being washed downdeck, reaching in a panic for anything solid, finally grateful for the pain as I fetched up underneath the 01 level ladder. Taking departure from Gib after six months in the Med, part of a fast carrier battle group. Listening to a local group called The Beatles, liked them but figured they were but a local group. Couple days out from Norva and as usual the first radio station we could pick up on our transistor AM only radios was 1010 WINS out of NYC. Seven out out of ten songs were The Beatles, apparently a bit bigger than a local UK band. Back in the Med, crew on a guided missile destroyer, late night, off duty in my berthing compartment, the skipper came over the 1MC to tell us that JFK was dead in Dallas. Three channels on the TV, and yeah, you had to get up to change the channel. After the Navy, long haul trucking, truckstops with vast rooms filled with hundreds of payphones. Living on coffee, cigarettes and pills. And they lied to us, said drugs were bad for us. But Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and that lot still kicking, ugly as hell, but still here. The above not exactly in chronological order, but close enough. Sometimes I feel like a beat up old historical artifact.

My Corp had a guy in his 60s at one point. I remember one time we were out doing Blops and he fell asleep while his Sin was on a gate. He had a clock behind him that would make the sound of a revving Harley engine every 15 minutes because he was narcoleptic, but the battery died so he literally fell asleep on his keyboard.

He had a buddy just like him, but in a red spacesuit. My Matt Mason did a lot of astronaut training exercises. Free falls from the sky, centrifuge spinning, riding a parachute made from a handkerchief, etc.
Had one of these D battery powered moon crawlers too. It had big sponge back wheels on the back and a really low gear ratio. That thing could climb up or crawl over anything. Those were some really fun toys. |
