From the MWD nerf to the NPC drone boost, from the prohibitions on BS mining in Empire to the magical transportation of bistot, from the targetting speed changes to the increased costs of production, this patch has one specific goal:
The dramatic reduction of the use of battleships.
Not a bad idea, you say.
However, most of the changes will have a dramatic and destructive effect on small to mid-sized corporations.
The MWD nerf is overcooked - smaller corporations without the manpower will struggle to haul what they mine because industrials will spend more time exposed to the wrath of boosted NPC's and there's absolutely no way of protecting industrials from NPC's that can hit from 90km.
The size and ferocity of NPC spawns will do away with smart and sneaky solo (non-corp/corp)miners "stealing" bistot from alliance territory and/or unclaimed 0.0 territory.
This means the rare and vastly important minerals become non-profit ventures for corporations - they will have to mine more low-end minerals in order to purchase the rarer minerals.
Linked with this is the BS-mining-in-Empire change and the transportation of bistot even deeper into 0.0 space making an already difficult but acheivable mining run impossible for small non-alliance corporations.
Agent missions are all about luck rather than skill/determination which means the larger corporations with more members are even more likely to benefit than smalle rcorporations.
Don't get me wrong - I think all the changes are good and well-intentioned (MWD's need de-nerfing slightly and NPC's need "taming") and mean PvP will now include some real tactics instead of "Most battleships wins" but I feel CCP has overlooked what the effect of these changes will mean for the small non-alliance corporations.

Non-affiliated ships are KOS in alliance space anyhow so why not target their haulers for the ore?
I'll pay privateers targetting ORS ships in this way.

The mwd isn't even a nerf, they just work differently
I travel at 19000m/s with a tiny little frig now with the mwd. And that is a nerf???
Naah. industrials that go slow will be more fun in the game, esp with protection etc. And hello warping is faster!

Agree with you. MWD thing I can live with. But 160M for tech 2 bs?? You can't really get the money from killing pirates. You can't mine the bistot - what left to do to get the mega? Oh yeah, big corp mining. And I'm in one, so it will strike other people much harder than me. And that's not good, because we'll see even less people wanting to fight now.

Josh could be right on this, it will only be the large corps that can afford a sizable BS fleet to run cover for mining in 0.0, smaller corps won't get a look in.
If BS losses become too great, so as not to be economically viable, even the larger corps may consider moving back into empire space.
This may reduce the number of BS's in the game or even make them redundant (except for pvp), as few are going to try and mine in low sec space in a cruiser.
This is reminiscent of the hardener nerf, the pilots it really hit was those in cruisers.

All mwd Queens are moaning. The nerf isen't bad, why shoulden't a frigate be the fastest ship?

Actually, it would all be great if not for one thing: the strength of the NPCs.
Now, I agree that the NPCs needed to be made stronger, and bship NPCs are great, but this? It's insane.
I don't care how big or powerful your corp is, mining operations are (next to) impossible with the current spawn size and timing.
The NPC ships themselves are ok, but the size of the spawns simply MUST be turned down. There's no way even a large force of battleships could really protect miners or haulers at this point. ------------- My salsa makes all the pretty girls want to dance and take off their underpants. Just make them intermittent, sometimes they come in great numbers like now, sometimes not at all.

Thanks Joshua, my corp exactly fits the "small non-affiliated" description. I agree with you on your patch synopsis. We have longed to mine in 0.0 for many months. We have tried various times. Now I am grateful for a challenge that the NPCs provide. I mean just one wasp drone kept me safe in most empire space systems before the patch - which is ridiculous. I was hoping for a redistribution of the higher end ores so that we could possibly mine in 0.0 thats a little closer to home. It's just not worth jumping all that way in a much slower ship to face such opposition from both player and NPC to scrap up a couple loads of bistot. Well I eager to see how all of this pans out in the next few weeks.

The nerf was needed, I admit, but to such a degree?
Dubious.

NPC's are insane.
Cataclysm Cruise Missile fired by NPC can travel 250km and hit a frigate travelling at 2km/s?
If this is tech 2 then WTF is tech 5!?
Deathstar?

We held a belt in 0.0 with 25 battleships. All PC pirates, it was cool. So if you want to mine, contact Da Skillz.

All PC pirates?
Explains why you need approx. 2.5x the number of EV BS we predict you'd need to hold a belt for mining.
I don't mind needing that kind of firepower to control the NPC but how do you actually protect the industrials, non-combatants and then collect the left over cans?
We've had to resort to using MWD'd frigates to zoom towards cans, pick up what they can, and get out before the NPC can lock.

Yes, it's no longer a question of prohibition, it's been made mandatory.

No Josuha, they butt-spawn you and then you lose yet another ship. But I guess that your corporation is used to that.
I said keeping the belt clean, not warping in and out.

Such hostility skillz. The man is asking a fair question to the devs. and one which other small corporations happen to agree with. Why not try and tone down your personal attacks and try and help make the game better for all.
