A member of the original Privateers corp (from back before they became an alliance) leaked this corp-mail to be today.
Quote:
I found a few things out today and wanted u all to know.
We are exploding with growth and I have chosen to tackle a few new methods of doing business to provide mroe wars at less cost to members and member corps. The changes are coming and I will give details soon.
An unfortunate side-effect of this is that recruitment into the corp is officially closed, for good. Depending on how the new business goes it may or may not be reopened but that decision is many months away.
I understand it was nice to be EVE's ***** and let anyone in but it served no purpose and has ultimately hurt us. If you have friends who want in their only option is to join with a corp. Existing member corps are not allowed to grow very large and anyone caught sucking up noobs like we use to will be removed from the alliance.

As a long-time fan of the Privateers (the concept was always so elegant in it's simplicity) and as someone who has real-life friends in it and who used to have an alt in it months ago but sadly had to recycle him, this would seem to mean the partial death of the Privateers.
No more newbie PVP alts of carebears who want to escape the hassles of alliance warfare and 0.0 and just go learn to pewpew and have some fun.
I'm curious what your thoughts are on this...

Tis a shame.
I flew as a Privateer admittedly briefly and experienced the great fun to be had. However, frustrated by my terrible skills I left to plug in some implants and train up for a couple of months, promising to return to the fray in inties or AF's and actually be of some use.
Just yesterday I felt the time had come, skills ready, ships ready, plenty of money for replacements and I was ready to go.
Then I found out recruiting was closed, bummer

One of the directors of Privateers wrote about this on the forums last week. Tis a bit sad that new players cant become part of Privateers corp, but they can still join one of the other corps to get 'omg war decs'

I flew in Privateers, and well, I couldn't trust anyone in the main Privateers corp. For a few reasons:
a) will they set me up? b) will they share loot? c) are they complete noobs?
After all of these turning into truths I left.
Great concept. Too bad a few bad apples ruined it.

It was me you had the agrangement with - and it was before the unexpected changes. I will do my best and use any "sway" I hopefully have to honor the open invitation fpr your return - You recognised your lack of combat SP may effect your PVP experience and put other pilots at risk and took measures to rectify this. Anyone should be proud to have a consiensious pilot such as yourself in their gang & I hope to see you in corp chat again soon.
On the Closed door policy I have an idea I would like to discuss with our CEO ASAP. This hopefully will help to benift the PA as a whole while still allowing the PVP new guys to benifit from the huge war target pool we currently share. I will update the Recruitment post if this is approved.

I'm amazed I've been remembered
I see my brief actions are still on the killboard, if anything could be done for me I'd love to jump back in.

So basically they are saying that they will no longer follow the basic plan that was laid out by Infinity Ziona.
Great, time for someone to form a new privateer corp/alliance.

Seems to me that the result of this plan would be more people who want to join being forced to make new member corps, which means more people needing to pony up war dec fees, thus more wars?
Is that the plan hinted at in the OP?

Quote: First, our gameplay, as it exists now, will never change so long as I am running things. We will always pay for as many wars as we can afford. We will always be empire based. There will never be any cost to members. There will never be any requirements. There will never be any rules.
or this
Quote: If by some chance the #'s and situation works out so that we can open recruitment I am all for it.
Dedicated PVP corps are better than rotating strangers in every sense. No ill-intent, a desire for teamwork, a willingness to contribute, talent and organization. Top it all off with the fact I have booted dozens who have joined specifically to cause problems and when our member limit is in sight the choice is obvious. Its not about more isk at all, in fact in the near future I hope people are paying less to it possibly even being completely free. All that matters really is that the alliance and corp know whats going on. So I guess I look stupid for coming here explaining.

no no, its the web cam shots of u in a pink dress doing the can-can that did it for me (joke)
Narr, you can explain till your blue in the face, some will understand b4 you even open the page to post, some after, some will read it and still never understand and carry on flaming. But the thing thats gets me is, someone else will ask the same question again 2 weeks later and the whole process can be started again
Its only when I post the same stuff for the 5 time that I feel stupid, mainly for expending the energy again and not learning from the 4 previous posts myself.

I guess this sort of explains it still seems...odd.
Love em or hate em Privateer's pioneered a model that was hugely successful and have already written themselves a prominent chapter in EVE history. To walk away from that when all seems fine for them just doesn't make sense. Why not start a Privateer2 (Or Privateers) Alliance (i.e a second alliance)? Split what corps are there or just populate the second and keep going?
I probably shouldn't be trying to offer alternatives to them as I am one who personally feel they abuse the war deccing system but what the hell...they are doing their thing and have been fun to complain about.

Could the real reason behind this decision be the fact that PA are slowly running out of targets in empire, so they want to close their doors and force all the wannabe PVP-ers to join other, non-PA corps, so PA can in turn wardec those?

I don't think we are running out of targets. In fact a whole lot of Apocalyptica came looking for Privateers tonight. I think they found some.
Some of the targets are getting smarter but they still keep showing up on the overview for me. ---------------------- Boom goes the ship! Squish goes the pilot!

Edited by: Soporo on 04/03/2007 04:44:04 Open door policy like they had...I can easily see random tools, n00bs, troublemakers and downright spys being prevalent and problematic.
I also know that some Alliance peeps often gang up to Priv hunt, and Empire decced people are probably getting more carefull, generally speaking.
I know I have.
This measure will likely accomplish a few things right off the bat (wild speculation): Same amount of targets, fewer Privs, more experienced Priv gangs, the disapearance of the T1 Frig Priv, a general lessening of Empire caution due to less visible Privs everywhere.
Poor n00b pew pew'ers. Where will they go? LowSec? Pfft.

thats the one... From what i know of some of the better pvp corps in privateers, if this is at all an attempt at organising privateers as a together entity they wont hang around. They arent interested in going near the vast majority of corps in that alliance. --------------------

Interesting move, but sort of goes against what Privateers was originally born for. I see a philosphy change of freedom of movement, and the coming and going of corps/members to an attempt to make it more of an organized alliance and restrictive.
The change must be warrented for a reason, so perhaps they are trying to make themselves more geared up for a merc role, thus can't have just any old spy join up. But unless more change and organization is implemented the Priv alliance are horrible mercs, they are not focused enough, nor do they have the organizational skills...and it was their random encounter power of anybody anywhere attacking you which was their strength.
Well, all things change. Hope it works out for you guys.

Privateers is a way of life not an alliance. (I know nothing of the leaders intentions as I write this)
Guy A wants to join Priv to shoot peeps and make tons of isk off loot, he joins privateers corp.
End Result no new wars
Guy B wants to join Priv and makes tons of isk with his alt, he is denied. He makes his own alt corp and joins Privateers Alliance.
End Result 1 new war
Now the whole corps getting huge thing is a really good point too cause a corp of 200 pays 1/55 of the bill. If that corp was to be 20 10 man corps thats 20 more wars and would be paying 20/75 of the bill.
Everyone who gets denied and says something in this thread should all meet up start a corp and if you have 10 members agree to have everyone pay 5 mil a week.
Its not about spys, crappy pilots, or logistics its about more wars and with everyone joining corps already ally members thats no new wars.

It seems a tougher recruitment policy only hurts the alliance as a whole. Perhaps its the begining of an alliance trying to change - but into what?
