I had a conversation with the local anti-pies in Old Man Star after they chose to gank my Ishkur with a curse, arazu, and hurricane outside the station.
Basically, the hurricane attacked me while I sat outside the station in my myrmidon, and I knew he had backup so I docked and grabbed my ishkur, thinking maybe he'd fight me fairly if I was in a frigate. I didn't really expect him to, but it was worth a try. So I undock and engage him, and sure enough the arazu and curse undock. Blam, I'm dead.
So the next twenty or so minutes are given up to me conversing with them, trying to understand their viewpoint. Primarily they are 'OMG ITZ RED DIEZORZ", acusing me of ganking noobies, killing people with civ gatling guns, etc. I point out that killing a t2 frigate with two recons and a battlecruiser under the guns where allies can't asist is pretty much as fair. They spout off about how I kill noobies.
So, the warning when you enter low sec states that concord won't protect you and that low sec is dangerous... clicking through this warning means you are CONSENTING to pvp. I engage in said pvp, usually solo in AFs and ceptors, vs COMBAT FITTED cruisers an battlecruisers. "Not pvp fitted" means they don't have scrams, which in my mind means they should be fitting something else in that slot, which would theoretically give them an edge...In any case, I kill people on fair terms who have CONSENTED to pvp by their presence in low sec, however what I do is evidently far scumier and less fair than pulling out multiple abaddons and megathrons, bumping my battlecruiser off the station, and killing me (they havn't actually managed yet but they keep trying)
Why do these people so fervently defend their way of life? Its a game! When I play a game, I want to have fun. Piracy is fun. I'm an honorable pirate. I honor ransom, I honor 1v1, I don't betray people, (if I'm going to kill someone and they ask I will strait up tell them they're going to get killed), I honor ransoms... And yet these people, who I've heard have dishonerd 1v1s in the past, and who resort to a variety of lures, backstabing, and other tricks... Consider themselves on higher moral ground than me?
I don't know, just kind of a question to the void.

So they target "Evil" people and act out their fantasies on them instead, and then prove that they were doing it for "the right reasons" by coming out with the same rhetoric time and time again.
So your pain = their feeling of loathsomeness x your security status.

Majority of anti-pirates I've come across are pretty lame. Experts and smacking and blobbing.
Although there are a few out there that I've come across that are very decent.
Generally its the nubs that do alot of smacking. The way I see it, they take the easy road since they never fight under sentry fire.

I have done a fair amount of belt piracy in the past, so you can't tell me that an npc fitted cruiser killing belt rats is a pvp ship. The hardeners are stacked for the rats and there is usually a huge hole in the resists. I am assuming that like me..you would fully take advanatge of that hole
There is no reason why an anti pirate should fight "fair", most that I know will honour a 1 v 1, but it doesn't sound like you arranged that. (I'm sure they would have prefered that you undocked in the Myrmidon )

Sentry tanking is easy mate Yeah you got to be careful what you engage if alone. I got caught one time scrambling this lachesis, and then I am damped and joined by his Arazu and Deimos friend...I used a lot of cap 800's but they just held me there adding dps till sentry popped me
Anti Pi..is not the easy way out, most pirates ARE skilled pvp'rs, it's like big game hunting, and you guys are the lions

I agree, but I think the point the OP is trying to make is that they have some big vendetta about how evil we are because they think we partake in non-consensual PvP, which he just explained away. I'm sure he realizes that he allowed himself to get attacked. ---------

You know that the aim of the last few patches or so ago was to make less of a difference between NPC'ing setups and PvP'ing setups ( being able to jam NPC's , being able to use NOS on NPC's ) so really there isn't much need to actually NPC in a specific setup .
Especially in low sec where the biggest rats your gonna get are BC sized , so all these npc'ers that do die , die needlessly in my eyes , rat in a pVp setup and you stand more of a chance of fighting off pirates and such .

Because they can.

Heh, I was blob-ganked by anti-pies after undocking the other day in .3 space.
Didn't realized I was station camped for about an hour (since I wasn't actually pirating at the time). Apparently it takes 4-5 BS and a BC to take me down though. Was pretty hilarious how long my crap-from-the-hangar tank held up against such a group of ships.
I just sort of laughed at their determination to pirate me, and felt flattered that they needed to take me on in such large numbers.
I agree that anti-pies are a bit hypocritical in their ways, but hey, it makes killing them all the more enjoyable

Why do 0.0 alliances defend their space? To keep undesirables out and keep their miners/ratters safe. Anti-pirates are doing the exact same thing in low sec, it's really not a difficult concept. If you, as a known pirate, are allowed to move about unchallenged, you are a threat to them and to others, so they're going to kill you if they have the chance, through whatever means available. Fairness has nothing to do with it, even numbers has nothing to do with it, it's about removing a threat and bringing whatever force you have available to bear to do so, even if that's sometimes overkill. Overkill is always preferable to being caught short.

I actually quite prefer 1 on 1 battles, and I don't think I've ever once blobbed anyone (worst I can remember is a few frigs against a BS, hardly "blobbing").
I enjoy a good close battle, and I've had many. This is why I tend to want to fight ships of the same variety that I'm flying, or maybe one grade higher when possible, but of course this doesn't always happen...sometimes you just can't find anything but easy targets or BS fleets.

A pirate is a criminal; he/she is out to ruin the time and work of other new players trying to climb the economical ladder that is Eve. A pirate sits at gates and waits for travelers to come through so they can blow up their ship and take their stuff. Is there ever an invite tag of "Hey pirate im in a severely underequipped ship and by the way I have no skills. Shoot at me!" above their ship? Piracy is like "rape". Pirates are rapists as far as I am concerned. Pirates are terrorists. If you do not understand the reality of your role, you shouldn't be one. You do not have the guts. Stop stealing people's freedom and you won't feel the same way when anti-pirates station camp you. And they should station camp you everyday, so you cannot go out and terrorize people who are just enjoying the game. I don't know what else to tell you. And yeah man, anti pirates ARE on higher moral ground than you. If you can't understand that, you're living in denial.

Cant say I approve of blobbing. Lacks the thrill of a close battle. If I see a target on my scanners which is not frigate or destroyer, I prefer attacking it alone. If the target's a BS I usually let my corpmates know so I can expect help if things go bad (I fly a Drake).

I've never seen you before.
And by that I mean, sucky first impression.
First of all, let me state the obvious: you're taking this game way too seriously.
Secondly: "A pirate is a criminal; he/she is out to ruin the time and work of other new players trying to climb the economical ladder that is Eve."
Saying that proves your ignorance and tells us that you don't understand humans. Let me explain.
Most video games are quite simply based on killing other people. Some are more strategic than others, but it all comes down to competition. You and everyone else who claims that every pirate has some thing for killing people are clearly missing the fact that competition is a key aspect of gaming. If you don't like it, sit in 1.0 and play the greatest futuristic-mining simulator ever made.
Though you didn't expressly state it, you remind me of those people who assume every pirate is a 13 year old with social issues. And just to be a **** about it you add that they have pimples...because that comes with social issues or something.
Now, let's move on: "And yeah man, anti pirates ARE on higher moral ground than you. If you can't understand that, you're living in denial."
Okay. Hold up. AP's kill pirates. For profit? No, for VENGEANCEWTFBBQ!!! Because VENGEANCEWTFBBQ is what they do, and they feel that they're doing the world a service by blowing up the pixels of someone who blows up other pixels.
To break that down for you:
1) They kill as well, but not for profit - just to feel good about killing someone they think deserves to be griefed. 2) It's a friggin game. There's no morality in games, even those that aren't centered around killing.
So to wrap up - you have no idea what you're talking about, and shut your damn mouth til you do. ---------

i read all the way up to slice's 1st post. okay now...
was this a whine about being ganked? You accepted PvP by having your sec status lower than -5. just FYI
if it wasn't: okay, i agree, 3 uber ships v 1 frig=kinda goofy, but i got ganked in a blackbird by not less than 15 ships. no biggie man. their mindset is the exact same as yours: woot, i can PvP without dealing with a buncha concorde!
as to them accusing you of n00b ganking: if you don't do it, who cares?
and we(anti pies) defend our way of life in the game for the same reason you defend yours. we take greater restrictions on our targets who nearly always have better ships than us (this goes for my corp only) along with superior numbers. honestly, i'd've gone after you too! if only to actually be able to win a fight.
anyway, there's my viewpoint, and since it's mine it must be right.

Nothing dishonorable in using a bigger ship. Only in running away with one when you should be winning.

Edited by: Icome4u on 05/03/2007 04:35:33 Both side whine... so what? Let them talk, i let my missiles do the talking for me. And as far as i personaly know, pirates smack talk a lot more. Heck, just now a couple pirates were smack talking in local for no apparent reason than to be smartasses. Now they have a couple ships and hundred million isk less.
So maybe for some of you pirates, pirating is a 'profit', well anti-pirates can actualy also look at it as profit. They blow pirates up, which leaves the area more secure which less their miners or other people do their thing w/o having pirates attacking them.
Anti-Pirates only exist because some people feel the need to stop other people pirating... Don't like it, don't be a pirate.
From my point of view, i anti-pirate to let other friendlies and neutrals run their own business (mine, rat, run missions etc). No personal grudge, but if i see a pirate (negative standing) i will blow him up and usualy pod him to make sure he/she doesn't bother my friends and neutral players.

But honestly I don't think anyone can judge who smacks more, as no one keeps statistics. Sure you can speak from experience, but that's not really objective. Not that it matters who smacks more anyway.
And I think it's unlikely that most APs view it the way you do - many of them just want to ruin a pirate's day, because it's what we do to others. Not that we do it for that purpose - but that brings us right back to the top of this post so it'd be foolish to repeat myself. ============= Gate Camp: Originally by: Marcus TheMartin Think of it like fishing with a machine gun while in a tent full of people that won't shut up on ts

I jumped my Thanatos through Old Man Star - I wondered whether it was the carrier that caused a stir or my sec status, or maybe both...
I guess my outlawed sec did me no favours - they failed to kill me too ofcourse.

That's all that needs to be said. Pirates ruin other players game time (whether they mean or don't mean too), so Anti-Pirates ruin Pirates game time. That's the simplest way to put it.

So if I fight cruisers solo in an AF, (and I've died pretty frequently, webbers + thorax + wolf = dead wolf) I'm a evil griefer, but if they kill my AF with two t2 cruisers and a bc they're noble and fair.
Just wish these people would take the GAME (< operative word) less seriously and go kill more than just pirates, or stop killing people altogether. Station blobbing then bragging about it is lame, mmk? ----

To be honest ren you make me want to puke. You are whining against their chosen play method whilst at the same saying anything goes in lowsec. Grow some balls man, anti-pies and blobbage are a risk of the career path. As a pirate I honor ransoms and 1 vs 1's, but I always ensure that im protected against 1 vs 1 'cheats'. And let's get one thing straight here, honoring a 1 vs 1 isnt really anything to brag about in EVE. Could even be classed as stupidity. Non consentual pvp in lowsec remember?

Dear Ren Tales, there was no sinister plan behind your ishkurs demise just a tad of bad luck on your side. We were in the process of logging in and the arazu was not docked but had just arrived to station cloaked. We had a -10 pirate shooting at someone outside the station and took advantage of the situation. Should we have not done this in the name of fair play?
You are trying to make it sound like we are as bad or good as you are because we both shoot people. But there is a difference in the people we shoot isn't there? While we only shoot people that shoot people, you shoot everyone, including newbies mining or ratting in their brand new tristan. Now you can argue for a couple of more pages about how equally despicable we are but whenever I gank a pirate I can hear ten dead newbs cheering for me in my inner head and thats good enough for me ;)
I'll try to make our next fight a bit more interesting though mainly because your type of pirate is the one I respect, not the 10 ppl bs ganksquads that roam around shooting everyone they happen upon.

Just so you don't have to take all of the flak... so what if you get called names, so what if people shoot you for shooting noobs. I don't care... I enjoy taking the pleasure of removing an incompetant missile spamming Raven flying player from space, who has absolutely no chance of defending himself against an older player. Hell - I enjoy griefing, i enjoy taking the time to annoy someone else and ruin there day. I enjoy it so much we've made little games out of it - Drone Lotteries for example. Just the other day we did on a guy who we probed out doing a mission... and all we got for the 10 minutes it took the drones to kill his ship was "omg please dont kill me ive worked so hard for this ship." So? So what? Youre in lowsec, don't like it? Dont come here. Simple as that.
I take no sympathy towards anyone I kill, equally i accept bad karma will catch up - but i respect it for what it is, and that is just a game. I lost my fully faction fit Vindicator to a gang + sentries just over a week ago. Now, just over a week later, i still dont give a ****, and what i do hasnt changed.
Piracy 4tw - the best element in this game. I know where you're coming from mate, the more they annoy you, the more you should make sure they die.

Edited by: Milonia on 06/03/2007 19:16:01 Hello! I am in an Anti-Pirate Corp.
We regularly do anti-pirate sweeps in low sec and 0.0 near the high sec where we primarily operate. We shoot at ANY red flashing people. No questions asked. We don't fight fair. If you are flashing red from low sec standings and are alone in a AF and we have 6 ships ourselves we won't let you fight 1v1. We will use overwhelming force if we can and do not hesistate to use it.
Why?
1) We are an RP corp and we RP a heavy anti-pirate stance with no mercy.
2) Pirates use overwhelming force when they gate camp and fight. It is the nature of the game.
3) Pirates are usually more skilled in PvP then your average bear.
4) I die to them on a regular basis and I like to turn in the favor. Its all in the game.
Please do not take offense when we take you out with overwhelming numbers for no reason other then your -9 sec status. Just like you don't want people taking offense to the haulers you pop in gate camps.
It is our jobs to "attempt" to take the place of CONCORD in low sec space. Low sec is still empire space. It is just much less secure.
Thanks for listening! I hope to see you all in game sometime!
edit: oh and we NEVER smack in local. EVER. It is against our corp policy. We try to fight like Gentlemen (and women!) ============================== Milonia Combat Pilot of the ACV Acadia (Moa) I'm new so be nice!

funny anti-pirate story...
im docked in station in egbinger when my torrent finishes. so i start the video (its a 90 minute rally video) minimise eve and have a chat to some friends, my skill finishes about half way through the video so i open up eve and see a convo happening in local
<pilot1> who are you camping? <pilot2> we are camping the pirate in station <me> me? have fun, im not even gonna be doing anything for another 45 minutes at least <me> im afk, so go harass someone else. <pilot2> we couldnt find anyone else. *30 minutes later* <me> lol arent you guys bored yet? <pilot3*> no :/ *same corp as pilot2 *15 minutes later* <me> hahah lol they got bored and left
and that boys and girls is why stationcamping someone who TELLS you they are afk, and are going to be afk for 45 minutes at least is stupid.

This is an odd post to say the least....
You cant understand why people are anti-pirate? Simply because, there are pirates! Why do you go out pirating and killing people? Because you like pvp and you make money with it. People do whatever they feel is right and fun. Lets face it, anti-pitates are just people who like pvp too, they've just found their own excuse for doing it that doesnt label them as pirates?
Im not insinutating anything by saying this but... arent you only posting this because the same thing is happening to you that happens to victims of pirates? You get ganke nd lose your ship. Thats life. By going into low sec and 0.0, you too are consenting to PvP. Peoples reasons behid attacking you are their own. Its what makes the game so interesting. If you didnt pirate, and people didnt anti-pirate, we'd all just shoot asteroids instead.... that would be a bit "oh dear".

The most obvious answer why anti-pie is just that most corps don't want pirates running free in a system where their corpmates are mining, good sense.
The other reasons are it gives empire based corps the chance to start learning the pew pewing, often as not no sec hit doing it,the chance of earning a decent bounty(not the self imposed 5k),and of course beter loot.
Hell for some of the reasons i've stated pirates attack pirates, after all a t2 fitted frig/cruiser/bs is damn better than popping a hauler full of low ends.
And yes some anti-pies can be nobs, but smack is not only an anti-pie habit is it...

'Anti-pirates' (the real ones) and pirates are essentially the same creature. Both parties employ similar tactics in order to go about business.
The difference is simple, if you're neutral and go about flying your ship peacefully then 'anti pirates' won't shoot you, pirates will. So for every pirate ship an 'anti pirate' destroys a noob in a badgers chances of living another day are improved.
Now, playing Eve like this quickly becomes boring so many 'anti pirate' corps tend to look for a reason to shoot someone. Whether its because they spotted someone ganking a noob or some chump smacking in local.
But quite simpily it boils down to this: Pirates shoot everyone. Anti-pirates make an effort to stop pirates shooting everyone.
Is this concept difficult to comprehend?

anti-pie and pies are basically the same in most cases but they want to be able to go into high sec or are afraid of being -5.
and ppl often engage ppl when they outnumber them because they are either afraid of losing their ship, or they just like being in on the kill.
