Edited by: slothe on 04/03/2007 13:15:42 I used to hang around in northern 0.0. id wander round shooting anyone i could find including npcers, haulers etc. Everyone up north i fought played honourably and were friendly, even people i killed.
So then i move down south with outbreak around the HED area.
Engage people during gate camps - they log off.
Go into npc areas... they log off in belts.
Fight even numbers, people log.
Ive never seen anything like it in my 3 years + playing.
Ive also seen people defending logging on the forums (drasked and others) as a legitimate game tactic. Why should you lose your ship when you dont have to?
Well id like to tell you why.
0.0 is meant to have risk, thats why the reward (mining npc whatever) is there. If theres no risk there shouldnt be reward period, thats the main rationale of the game.
There is NO justification for logging off at all in 0.0.
My proposed solution-
1. make gate jumps in 0.0 give a jumper 15 mins aggression. 2. Make any npcing give 15 mins aggression.
Then npcers who log can be probed.
Then gate jumpers who log can be probed.
If its a genuine computer crash they can log back on and move ship to safety.
it really sucks as it is (i know this has been said before but ive never experienced it myself b4)

CCP should add a log off timer, like they have in WoW. You have to stay 30 seconds not-cloaked and not doing anything, any action you do or is done against you will abort the log off timer, and you will not warp away. If you go untouched for 30 seconds your ship will warp away like it usually do.
Within a POS forcefield you should not warp away when logging off and it should be instantly. Same with when in a station.

Loging off in pvp is a problem, but that kind of half-assed solution is potentially worse.
From what you say, it seems that you didn't try once to probe those who log-off. How about you try doing that instead of coming here? ------------------------------------------ Every ship has a base 60-70% resist against the primary damage type of the race that is the least able to vary it's damage types. |

Comments like this really **** me off. Maybe he wants to fly solo? Did you ever think of that? Probably not. I never see TCF fly solo, always in packs of 10+.
Seriously guys, you have to understand some people don't want to fly with a mate. They prefer the lone ranger kind of play, and there's nothing wrong with that...
If there was a 15 minute logoff timer for NO MATTER WHAT it would just discourage people from doing it, and even the lone rangers get their kills. Understand now?

I dont mind the solution. The wow 30secs solution is stupid. First its a minute if you log without aggro. So from i can gather from the wow log out solution you can just, warp to safe, activate log off thingy wait 30secs then you get logged off. Tell me, how is that a risk, how is it possible for you to ever die from that solution.
Slothe your solution is good but i think there will be a better solution.
For one you will find the most times when you do get d/c is when you jump into a system. So if by chance you jump into a very busy system with two characters you will find that one or both characters will lose connection. Obviously its not a majority but it happens often. I myself lost a ship because my alt had d/c on a jump in. Due to my own stupidity i jumped into the wrong system(Funny thing is because she had d/c she had uncloaked so the hostile gate camp focuses on her and i slip away. This meant i didnt lose a very expensive ship :P ) Thats why that solution wont work.
But the npc solution, yeh im for it. If they npc i think they should get an aggro timer, maybe not so much 15mins, think about it, before you go to work you wake up 30mins early to try make some iskies. All of a sudden that 30mins of npcing turns to 15mins as you have to sit around and wait for your aggro timer to finish. But maybe a 5min npc aggro timer might be good. I know there is a npc aggro timer atm but i think its very very short.
But yes there is a huge logging off problem in eve atm. Living south of 0.0 i see these logging off npcers often. Its a problem because you want to clean them out but its nearly impossible because they will just log off as soon as local moves.
Maybe another solution that could stop mulitple logoffs; eg: they log off, they log back in and quickly log off and this contious. They log back in, seen local is still spiked so they log back off. Maybe a good solution to that is first fews mins of logging on your local window doesnt appear. Something simple as that could stop this. I dont know, just a thought

To the OP. The north is just as bad as the south. Its getting out of hand at the moment because people can log out with an agression timer and disappear in less than 30 seconds, even while they are locked down. They can't be killed nor probed.
The problem is that logging off is even safer than warping from safespot to safespot. It requires 0 skills, and the risk is minimal. Looks like most people look at this as a legitimate tactic, yes. Even the major alliances up north are using this tactic.
Giving gate activations and NPCing a 15 min timer wouldn't solve anything at all because its still possible to log off and vanish with an agression timer.
I suggest that all ships should stay in space atleast 4 min before they vanish regadless of agression timers and whatnot. In addition, a ship that has been targeted should never disappear, it should stay in space(IOW no race against the logofski timer).
These changes would force the ratters to warp from safespot to safespot, or creating deepsafes. People who legitimate crash at gates should instantly log back again and fight, or stay offline and get probed.

Edited by: Kay Han on 04/03/2007 16:56:56 put in an logoff button.
thats means, when you push the button, the connection gets closed after 5 min. you then disapear instantly and no1 can harm you.
when you get aggro in this 5 min. a freaky box apears that informs you about the aggression. This aplies only when you pushed the 'logoff button'
you can cancel the logoff sequence or ignore it.
anyways the normal 15 min agression timer is in place now. You can restart the logoff sequence after 15 min.
just my 2 cent.
and yes this came into my mind after bob killed our OFFLINE titan.
don¦t get me wrong.. i like the idea of the agressiontimer. but there must als be a way to logout safe, when you are inspace. With 30 seconds to probe some1, there is currently no safe way. ___________________________________________ A wise man said once: 'Violence is the escape of the mentaly poor guys.'

I hate these logoff timer ideas... Some of them might be good gameplay-wise, but it's unacceptable that logging off takes 5 minutes. There are times where real life is important, you know... You should be able to logoff without waiting 5 minutes AND without having to worry about losing a ship.
Don't take this the wrong way though, people who log off in fights, especially after jumping into a bubble, need to go.

They need to sort out logging - there's never any justification for it and any decent corp should prevent members from doing it as part of their policy.
...but...they need to sort out the issue when you crash jumping through gates first. It still happens to me resonably frequently that I jump through a gate, freeze, no buttons appear and I need to log. Once that's fixed I'd be v happy with something that prevented ships vanishing straight after logging.

Well if you need to go because of an RL issue, how about docking? And if you in a system where there are no station or systems near by where you can dock then that probably means you are in a hostile region and you should be at risk.

Make bubbles give aggro timers? When they jump in they become aggressed,so if they log off they can be probed out just like if you shot them with an actual warp disruptor.

Which is easy to say, unless you're a player like me who can get disconnected at least 2 times a night while playing due to some connection problem somewhere.
Something needs to be done most definately, it's a right pain in the ass.
It's tough to come up with a better solution though, same as many of the other gameplay issues we have, we all know what they are and would like to see them changed, it's really tough to see a better idea to replace it though that doesn't unfairly penalise people. Not even CCP would have good idea how many genuine disconnects they are, we can only assume they see enough to warrant the warp away staying in game.
And no I'm not using this as an excuse as someone who logs off, the CDC guys who killed my faction full inty in a bubble last week can testify to that, logging is lame.

Those who do it don't care. Those who care don't do it. And yes it's alot worse in the south, can't say I ever seen it happen the 2 sessions I had in 0.0 north but in the south it happened in 99% of my so-called "pvp encounters".
Not very fun for the lone ranger, huh? I trained recon to solo-hunt not to scout.

Yeah well ccp says every now and then logging is bad but it doesnt look like fixing the issue is of any priority to them.
People are complaining about cheesy logging, especially from bubbles, since ages now and no blogs ever adressed the issue - tbh what really ****es me off is most of the people logging think they somehow have the right to because its just not fair that they would lose their ship to you anyway

Just have a flat 15min timer when you log out no matter what.
For the POS issue I'd say have ships not warp off when you log inside a bubble (ok I admit it probably isn't that simple to do programming wise but could be worth it).
