Hi there,
Any and all account sharing is forbidden, and this is clearly stated in the EULA. The EULA can be found here:
http://www.eveonline.com/pnp/eula.asp
The articles I am referring to here are articles 2 A and B.
If account sharing is discovered, accounts can be banned while the issue is being investigated and rightful ownership is being established. Whether the account stays banned or not is based on the discretion of the GM investigating the issue and is based on our internal rules and policies.
Banning accounts is something we do not do lightly and account sharing is considered to be a serious violation of the EULA
The only person that is allowed to access the account is the original owner. If we discover that an account is being accessed by anyone else than the original owner, we will look into it and take necessary action.
So to clarify what is account sharing is actually very simple. Anyone other than the original account owner accessing the account in question with the permission of the account owner is considered to be involved in account sharing. If the account is accessed without the permission of the owner of the account, the issue is considered to be account hacking.
Why is account sharing bad?
Some people believe that sharing account information with friends can help them in situations where skill training is needed and when that cyno pilot is needed, but you are studying/working or need to go to sleep since you have to show up for work/school the next day.
We see on almost daily basis cases where account sharing goes bad and and accounts and characters are stolen from their rightful owners. This can be painful for the original owner, that believed he was doing a friend a favor but suddenly finds that a 20+ million SP character has been transferred off of his account. The issue can also be on the other end when a player receives an account from a friend that stopped playing, only to show up a few years later reclaiming the account and characters. Although we can help in some instances, more often than not things have transpired in such a way that we cannot intervene.
The account sharing can also have impact on corporations and alliances. And we have seen examples of this. Corporation wallets emptied, theft of assets, changes to infrastructure and other nasty things have happened when account information lands in the wrong hands.
Our actions are always based on the rules and policies we have and although they may feel like unforgiving and harsh, they are based on years of experience and these cases are something we try to solve with fairness in mind, but sadly we are unable to please everyone.
Reading the EULA and following it should ensure that you do not have issues with your account. If you are in doubt you can always create a petition as we are always willing to help our players resolve their problems.
