Every school has their share of bad teachers. Let's face it, some teachers just can't teach. Do what you should be doing throughout high school and college and choose the best teachers. If enough students do this over a few semesters, bad teachers will slowly get kicked out depending which country you're in.

If your school is anything like mine was you have my sympathy. Give em hell.

All I remember of High school was that it was run by a bunch of incompetant religious freaks, who were more concerned with thier own positions of authority than actually encouraging people to learn.

In fact I started passing lessons when I stopped going to them.

"HEY! TEACHERS! LEAVE THEM KIDS ALONE!!"

Anywho, as sad as it sounds, ignore the teacher and try to learn the material on your own. Study groups are great, and a great preparation for college (where as said before, a lot of the instructors don't give a flying **** about you).

The petition thing may work, but it won't help you right now. Also, has your class tried to confront this teacher seriously? If he was unresponsive, then petition.

 Edit: coherence

Actually from what it sounds, they arent giving the teacher a chance if they are f***ing around in class they aren't going to learn anything are they? Or more it just shows they have no interest in learning in the first place.

Its possible that you are right, but tbh, a whole class should be sensible enough to have given the teacher enough of a chance by now. I highly doubt that they had this attitude to the teacher in the start, but you really really get annoyed when you feel that you are wasting your time.

I myself got a new teacher this christmas. Im a student at a business-school, and the new teacher is my english-teacher. We have english at A, even though it may be hard to see from my post.

This guy is so insanely bad at english, that half the time im just *sigh*ing. Its not like I am terrorizing him or anything, but at times I feel like. If you've ever felt like you wasted your time, then you should attend one of his classes and be amazed.

And yes, im trying to gtfo of his english class.

And when a guy with MY english-skills are critizing (sp, for sure) a teacher, then there's something wrong wrong WRONG

I always thought the best teacher was the one capable of having a conversation with a student.

Some teachers think you're constantly trying to get one over on them and then tell you off for talking to them. o.0

ROFL... that is one pathetic teacher... how hard is it to teach Algebra?! I mean honestly!?!?!

Though, out of all honesty from here... When you get to college, more then half the professors that teach "Gen-Ed" classes won't give a f*ck about whether you learn the material or not.

Use this time to prepare for that, cause trust me, you can give hell to Professors in college, but they'll just fail you and there won't be squat you can do about it :P.

Can you master this phrase? "Do you want fries with that?"

I can sympathise with several of the different points of view here. It's no fun being in a class of disruptive idiots (if you actually care, that is). I just put up with it for a few years, and gradually started doing things more independently, to the point where I was teaching myself maths rather than going to some of the lessons. The school I was in was a grammar school but even so, there were a lot of people there who had very little academic ambition.

A friend of mine took a similar view to the OP most of the time - he's now a bouncer at a (fairly upmarket) strip club, and I'm doing a degree
. I think we both got what we wanted, though - he gets paid ridiculous sums of money to watch strippers & beat people up, and I get to know some like-minded people. ------

I have had my share of bad teachers (even on an MSc course that wasn't cheap) but that doesn't mean that I considered abusing them verbally or physically. There are more mature ways of getting through bad classes, you know.

I had a crap math teacher. We taught each other the material as best we could, but I still ended up failing my Leaving Cert (final second level exams) over it and having to repeat. I hope the old ***** gets hit by a bus tbh.

It's hard to judge whether the OP actually has a bad teacher or is an ignorant gurrier, but the sort of person who many of the posters in this thread seem to think the OP is, wouldn't be trying to get themselves a *better* teacher.

The education system is the enemy, march onward.

A crappy teacher just makes you have to try harder, which will make you better in the long run.

Talk to faculty about it, but don't **** them off. You need to see it from their standpoint, what they do is what puts food on their table, and they don't need the **** you give them.

BTW, not a teacher, I am a university student studing BioSci.

the experience I made was that maths teachers are suprisingly often not able to explain their stuff to people that don't get it the first time (a.k.a future rocket scientists or future maths teachers).
I don't know for sure, but I guess this has something to do with the slight autistic tendencies you have to have to be a maths genious (no offense to anyone) or maybe you just lose/never gain the ability to explain something because studying maths involves a lot of time where you just sit there and work on your own, trying to figure out the given problem, etc.

No generalisation intended there, just my experiences with my share of maths teachers and my toughts during/reflecting back on the time I had to deal with them =)

seriously, if the teacher is ineffective or rude, go to the principle, infact go to the principle during her class. Make sure you see THE principle, not one of his aids. The more people you can get together in his office the better.
