After engaging a few Seekers to see if they qualified for "Sleeper" kills with the Serp challenge I saw a drifter come on grid, so I ran away. When I was back in system later I was curious if the Seekers had gone back to their Jove tower. When I landed on grid 100k away (wasn't going to take the chance and warp to 0), the Seeker was 100k and the drifter was 110k. As I was landing on grid I saw the drifter so I selected something in line to warp to as soon as I was allowed.
Nope.
Drifter insta-locked and scrammed me from 110k. Pretty sure before the "Warp to" button I was already scrammed and webbed and he was still 110k away. Good thing it was a cheap fit Cerb and all the faction mods/loot dropped.
Is this intended? They never did this to me before when I was farming seekers for the entosis links. But I always engaged on a station where I could dock immediately as well.
PS. I tried to search, but the search page was not having it and didn't want to work. Apologies if this had been answered somewhere previously. |

NPC's have always had stupid long lock ranges. Its like 200K iirc but cant remember for sure. I beleive that if they are close enough to show they are firing at you they can use ewar as well. Ide fly into a mission and make note of when the frigs go from flashy yellow to flashy red and use that as a minimum distance.
I tried looking this up as well and have not found anything yet.

I know they can target and shoot you across grid, but I had never been scrammed by one from past 10-20k. Well more precisely never let one get within 10-20k and hadn't been scrammed previously by a drifter.
So what I am trying to figure out is what their scram range is, or is supposed to be. |

Scram range is 500k with a 100% chance to hit. At least for battle ships.

Hmmm, says scram 500k, and the web says 40k, but I was scrammed and webbed instantly from over 100k.
I wonder when they changed the scram as I've never been scrammed by one before when I was farming seekers for the entosis link parts.
It also says that it has a 10,000 hps armor rep, which would make it near invincible. I'm wondering the accuracy of that info. |

It's accurate, the scram got changed to 500km to stop kitey tactics from farming them without risk. The web shouldn't be 100km, but they also close the range very fast, so in the time you were busy wondering why you weren't warping they could easily have gotten to web range. |

I didn't know there was a kiting them as the DD had infinite range and tracking and could take anything in 1 shot except tanked caps or the perfect 5b fit navy scorp or snake.
But no, I looked at my logs again and he only got 4 shots off total (I had a massive em hole and no dmg ctrl), he started at 110k, he only moves max 3.5km/s, and as soon as I was scrammed I looked down to see if it was a scram or a point and saw the web icon along with it (before he actually shot yet). I think by the time I was exploding he was still over 60k away. The whole thing was less than 15 seconds from the scram as soon as I landed to the last shot finishing my hull. And during the last 2 volleys I was clicking warp frantically as to get my pod out as soon as the ship exploded.
Doing the math being generous by giving him full speed the whole 15 seconds allows him to move 50k, which subtracted from the start range of 110k is 60k, still 20k from the furthest his web should have hit from.
Also with the insta lock, this guy WILL lock you in a station if you are unlucky enough to get caught on station. Worse if they catch you coming off a gate, since I wasn't able to warp to something else as soon as I landed before I was scrammed. Last time I was playing around with seekers and would get drifter spawns I noticed that they also had tendency to know where you were warping and then beat you to your destination (they warp MUCH faster than we can). Which also again leads to unless you are able to engage the seekers on a gate or station where you can immediately disengage and remove yourself from grid, don't plan on doing anything in that system for a while as they will wait you out and camp you and kill you if they see you. Seems a bit extreme for NPC behavior. All I did was blew up 2 seekers on gate before the drifter showed up. As he landed I jumped through the gate. Came back 10 minutes later and the instant I was on the same grid as the drifter I was scrammed and dying.
This is EVE, everything is a lesson and learning experience. I learned that drifters are even more OP than they used to be and its just not worth shooting seekers since once a drifter spawns you pretty much have to immediately leave that system for an indefinite period of time or lose your ship if they catch you on the same grid.

I guess this means you ain't gonna be sneakin' up on no drifters.
If we get chased by zombies, I'm tripping you.
