After doing the tutorial mission I took the next mission I was pointed too and it was a kill mission. I go to DED space and there are about 12 ships in groups of 4 and I always die. Is this normal or have I done something wrong?
Thanks,

Step 1: Get a ship better than the noob ship. Step 2: Outfit ship in weapons/equipment you are skilled in that don't say "Civilian" Step 3: Slaughter level 1 mission!
Weapons wise, stick to longer range and try to keep the enemy at distance if possible. Blasters/autocannons/pulse lasers are very nice once you get the hang of the game though.

Edited by: Myra Rodan on 07/03/2007 18:46:12 As much as it sucks, it's fairly normal. You just have to adjust how you are running the missions, and you can usually manage to finish them. A couple of key points: -Be careful to approach only one of the 4 groups at a time, that way you will have a few ships shooting at you at once. -Don't be afraid to warp away. If you don't have an armor tank setup, warp to the nearest station or jump gate as soon as your shields fall below ~10% (I usually set up my autopilot as soon as I was in the correct system to take me to any neighboring system so I wouldn't have to try to find the jump gate in the overview when panicked)
The only other thing I would suggest is to go through the DED spaces that only allow rookie ships in a few times to get a little more experience, and stuff you can sell to purchase a better ship which you should do as soon as possible.
Hope that helps!

Also,
You can utilize this website for detailed mission information. Just look up the name in your journal and find the corresponding mission on the site. Has helped me numerous times.

Remark: Missions deadspaces and DED rated complexes are two different things. The latter are permanent.

CCP should really add upgrading your ship into the tutorial...
Or at least at the end of it give a warning that the starter ship is not very strong and it is highly reccommended to upgrade before engaging in combat...
But yeah, starter ship sucks. :) -----------------------------------------------

Well after losing 2 x Slasher ships and around 3 hours I managed to clear one mission, hardly inspiring for a new player. I think they should make the missions slighlty easier for new players.

What is your setup for the slasher? and what mission name is it that you are struggling on?
Eve doesnt match missions to your level/experiance, so you can get a hard mission on your first mission.
Till you are more experianced it is easier to just outrange your enemy and blast them from distance.
Get 2 x 250mm light artillery cannon I
1 x 1MN afterburner I 1 x cap recharger I
1 x small armor repairer
Use a long range ammo in your guns, aiming for 20km+
Set your keep at range and orbit ranges in your overview for 20km, keep at range is best for artillery, but if u are taking damage then orbit them to reduce their accuracy, unlikely that many level 1 missions will hit you at 20km though
Should be okay with that
As your skills get higher and you can afford a better ship you can fit more for damage and close range and destroy them faster.
Eve has a near verticle learning curve, stick with it. Post questions if you arent sure, we were all new players once and know how you feel. :)

I remember flying in a slasher back in the days. lvl1 missions were quite doable.
With the slashere's high speed, you can often stay at range (outside their effective gun range) and shoot the crap out of them with long range artillery cannons.
But yeah, I agree that the tutorial should maybe introduce you into some simple tactics and explain how to equip you ship. First time I tried it, I had no clue that I should pay attention to CPU and powergrid and all that other stuff...

No. It is meant to be made of paper. The tutorial even tells you to upgrade.
If they made it as strong as a frigate, there would be rookie ship suicide squads who lose NOTHING to gank...

Thank you for the tips. To be honest there is so much equipment I have no idea what to put on my slasher. Will try those things.

My final question on this subject...
What is long range ammo for the 250mm? Or how do you know what ammo is long range?
Cheers.

Open the Market, and browse through to Projectile Ammunition.
Click the little blue ! to do a "Show Info" on the ammo.
Check the attributes - there will be a Range Modifer listed. A postive percentage increases your range; a negative one decreases it.
(Carbonised Lead is the longest range T1 ammo, btw)
It can be a bit of a trade-off against the type of damage dealt, at times, though. _______

Thanks on the ammo question...
I got a Slasher and the recommended items (above):
2 x 250mm light artillery cannon I 1 x 1MN afterburner I 1 x cap recharger I 1 x small armor repairer
But the ship does not have enought power. Any ideas?
I have a spare High power slot can I put something in there?
Ta!

hi bimble, I'd suggest leaving the armour rep off line, do what damage you can to them and warp out when you start taking armour damage, as far as I can tell you want to train engineering (bonus to powergrid) or electronics (bonus to cpu) hope that helps you and fly safe ;-)
