LOL. CCP literally took the worst off the shelf forum they could find and then they made it even shittier by customizing it. They'd be better off scrapping it and replacing it with something that actually works and has all those features built in.

Smartphone? What's a smartphone? I'm the only thing called "smart" around my precincts. Certainly, no inanimate object is called "smart" around me. You? You have a thing that's smarter than you? It's summer. If you want "layout" go layout by a pool and turn your greenish white skin a little tan. I hear the vitamin D works well with the brain...smartphone.

You're calling into the wilderness. The developers responsible for this no longer work for CCP. As such their notes went missing (together with the notes for the mystery code) and are now seen as legacy code. No-one at CCP has a clue how to or are afraid they break stuff when doing updates.
Case in point: top right search function (which I have reported several times) is for me on Safari when typed in is a #eeeeee font color on a #ffffff background, making it near impossible to read. Is a simple CSS fix changing #EEE into #000.

The open source version of the forums are perfectly capable of this. Yet they did not listen when people told them their approach was flawed https://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=1505227&page=3#70 and now they can't upgrade, as expected. |

Forums are fine. This ain't Twatter, Dreddit, or Inyourfacebook.
Classic Forums are still great ways to communicate and they can be properly moderated in fair ways. The other choices of social media are seriously lacking.

the valkyrie one linked up looks just awul to me ..
dont really use phone to look into forum, but when i have done it there been no problems, turning the forums into a ugly duck to please peaole who some reason use phones to look here and ruin the view for the pc is a nogo imo .. turn this forum the same as valkyrie and i prolly never visit again ..

Would like color theme choices, white-on-black strains my eyes over long periods. Not just black text on white, either: that's nearly the same problem in the opposite direction. Lower contrast choices.
I like Valk forums built in statistics and poll features :)

Very glitzy (Discourse) but looks a little less user friendly in a couple of different ways. Fewer controls (bonus for smartphone, drawback for options), odd eyeline tracking layout but probably get used to that. While not a deep under the hood look, doesn't look very configurable at a cursory glance. I'll dive in deeper to the product and see.
Still a great deal better than Dreddit et. al.
(P.S. My Current favorite is Confluence, super powerful, but maybe over kill for just BBS interactions. However, it can be split up so that you can even use it internally in CCP and just give public forum style comments their own area using about 7 different plug-ins)

I dislike mobile-formatted sites. I have a smartphone with as much processing power as many PCs, and a screen resolution similar to many PCs. I just want the regular ol' desktop display, thankyou.

Please don't. There are plenty of better forum styles out there that are both browser and mobile compatible that are heads and shoulders better than EVE Valk Forums. |

Font is good looking but harder to read.
White on black is as terrible as black on white.
Missing thematic background.
User icons are wasted space
Inside the threads avatars are very small
I especially like the thread progress bar on the right and the associated functionality
Not an improvement overall, but a couple of nice features that deserve to make it to a new forum.
Remove insurance.

This is just trendified layout with lots of wasted space and overly large text that's been the current vogue. Let's not go all hipster with the new forum: I would rather keep this forum that go for that one which has less information per page. |

CCP Falcon the Valkyrie Forum looks great and modern. I really like it and I hope the EvE Forum goes the same way.
