Originally by: AvatarADV Keep in mind that Gallente and Minmatar are allies, Caldari and Amarr are allies, and neither of the alliances much likes the other; if you're worried about your faction with one, don't do a lot of missions for the other.
Mathematically, it's possible to do missions for everybody and increase everything slowly; your gains will be higher than your losses, so you'll inch up in general.
I put together a standings simulator because I was curious as to how the "everybody likes me" plan would work out. Unfortunately, your gains only beat your losses when you have a relatively low standing with the factions. This is because all standings movements are a percentage of the difference between your current standing, and the most extreme value (+10 for increases, -10 for decreases). Hence, if you have a high standing, it's very hard to increase it further, but very easy to reduce it.
Given this, and assuming you ran and equal number of important missions for each race, you would eventually get to a steady state where all factions had a standing of approx 4 (the exact stable state varies for all 4 because of the different values of derived standings). Achieving this would take a long time though - assuming a 3% boost per mission, you get to the stable state in about 200 important missions.
It also doesn't matter what standings you start of at (assuming they're still good enough to allow you to run missions for the faction), you'll always end up at that steady state if you try and please everyone, it may just take longer to settle.
Originally by: AvatarADV There is a BIG benefit in having one faction very happy with you - POS anchoring rights. So long as you keep the opposite faction over -5, you should be okay...
Also got an interesting result on this one. It's not possible to have all 4 factions over 5 (minimum required for a 0.5 sec POS), but it is possible to get 3 factions above 5. But it does matter which 3 factions you try it with, again due to the different effects of derived standings on the different factions. (also note I've only looked at the 4 main empire factions here, not others like khanid, ammatar etc).
The 3 it's possible to get are Caldari, Minmatar and Gallente. You can get caldari and amarr together in about 85 3% missions, with gallente kicking in as the third at around 200 3% missions. So do-able, but not especially practical to do! Any single race can be achieved from zero standings with about 25 3% missions, and should dip the other factons down to -3 at the worst.
Of course, this assumes that all faction standings adjustments are subject to derived modifications, which I don't think is the case for ship kill standing drops. Though if you then proceed to continue with derived modification increases, you'll tend back to the expected steady state. This also means any one-off bonuses you might acquire (though not sure where you'd get them), would eventually be "bred out" of your standings if you continued to run missions for multiple factions. ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |
