I usually call Ruptures the 'Homing Brick'.
A Minmatar warship is like a rusting Beetle with 500 horsepower Cardillac engines in the rear, armour plating bolted to chassis and a M2 Browning stuck on top.

I can't be the only one.... All the supers and I think some of the carriers hulls are based on early earth sea animals. Im not sure what era they are from (cambrian, mesozoic, etc) But most of them have some animal, mostly the early sea animals, they seem to be very much like. Would love confirmation from CCP of this if it was intent.

Much like veterans talking about their ships, planes and vehicles throughout time and space. Those who remember and look back talk about things in a different vernacular than the layperson would. How would we talk about our experiences in a few hundred years of immortal capsuleer life? What would we have seen and felt in our times as pod pilots? The destruction? The joys, the sadness of defeats? Would these be meaningful in an immortal life? Would they be relevant? Many people during war times throughout history have raised beer or spirits, made love and done everything they could because tomorrow they might not return.... We have become exempt from this reality even though we can thrust ourselves into combat and kill or be killed countless times. So have we become exempt from such a reality as well? These ships are our lore life. Connected to them as much as we are to our arms and legs.... literally... how do we call them? How do we look upon them? When even our own arms and legs become expendable? When our bodies become so much more than a meat popsicle.... Tossable like our beer cans and water bottles on some god awful land fill of time.... Our stories are our own... immortal and neverending... burned into our collective psyches..... forever.... we are EVE!!! Will YOU be remembered?!!
In that case common nicknames are less important, though exceptions exist which is proven by only a handful of ships having common monikers.
Terms of endearment or disgust towards a ship type denote the overall characteristics of that ship/vehicle, rather than any personal attachment. History is littered with derogatory names for tanks, planes, and the like. Similarly, individual vehicles are often remembered fondly for breaking the mould and outperforming their peers, or in infamy for ill-fated journeys/fates.
Looking back upon your career, you might say you flew a lot of a certain ship, but that only one really stood out from the crowd. Those are the tales you'll be telling.
Most of my ships are named with this in mind, with an overarching theme divided up by ship class, and further broken down by variant fits. As such, I can recall the names of most my ships with the requisite amount of delight or dismay based upon how much I enjoyed flying them. It's a small part of what keeps me coming back for more. |
