Excellent and yes.
Thorax, Domi, Mega; I take it you've not faced one of these formidable ships?
Drones are more than useful; they'll leave your opponent sitting in his pod wondering "Wtf just happened?" 10 seconds after you appeared on overview.

gallente ships are awesome at pvp. many would say the current leading race for solo pvp, possibly challenged by minmatar.
Blaster ships are awesome, drone/nos boats are extremely good both in small gangs and solo.
great af's and ceptors
awesome command ships
uber cap ships
very good race for pvp overall

On Eve, you can tell something is good when people start calling for nerfs!
Also, on a more serious note, yes Gallentes are great PVPers, but their best if you wait maybe an extra month or two to get tech II drones and guns, and try to afford some named hardeners. Drones are some of the most useful weapons in the game, right alongside missils. If you PVP against a lot of Caldari's, you'll find yourself cursing long range fights though.

Gallente are full of viable solo and gang ships for pvp, I personally switched from Caldari to Gallente because of this and have never looked back. Actually, I just finished Large Hybrids 5 and got 2 megathrons setup, an Ion/Tanky mega and a Neutron/Gank Mega and omg..... its like having a /kill all command lol.

Gallente get huge bonuses for drone damage.
[ Vexor, Ishtar, Dominix .. see their stats ].
I have had wonderful success in a Vexor.

Make sure to get the T2 guns for your ship class, in Void we trust, everyone else uses Antimatter, and all that. -
If you go into your options menu, there's a difficulty slider. Put that all the way over to the easiest setting and you'll be fine. |

I've been seeing a lot of Myrmidon's on scanner when pirates jump into a system. I'm not sticking around to see if they're any good though

Blasters are excellent weapons Damage wise, although with T2 and Void loads you'll need to be very close. However they are Cap eaters. Railguns are pretty effective, but you'll need to focus on your tracking and combat effective skills to hit something outside of optimum (within fall off).
However ammo effects range, the more damage you do, the shorter the range (although weapon size effects range also). Long Range railguns, short range blasters... mid range f**ked.
Drones have a distinct value in that they don't seem to be affected by EW when your ship is (meaning that they'll keep attacking). However to use drones effectively requires A LOT of skills. The only real downside of drones is in gangs as they can increase lag effects.
That said, in skilled hands, drones are very dangerous (My T2 Drones have better stats than my T1 frigates...) If you're in a BS or BC Large Drones are a serious threat...
The problem with Gallente ships is they are quite easy to tank against, if you know they're after you (Thermal and Kinetic) - only the drones can do explosive and EM.
They're excellent for attacking, but the set up can leave you vulnerable. If you get attacked, chances are you might not be able to use your turrets.
NoS can be brutal on a Gallente ship, because blasters and railguns do eat quite a bit of cap, you'll need to fit rechargers or boosters. The problem, most gallente ships have a shortage of mid slots. So webber, scramblers, Cap Booster and Rechargers need to be thought out.
Gallente are like the French Army good in offence, but poor in defence, and are entirely dependent on the plan....

Damn right, im sad to say that the once feared and mighty Thorax have become somthing of a death trapp nowdays, fitt a webber to lockthem in range and youl be nossed to death, get a cap booster to defend against that and youl be webbed and kept out of range its a catch 22
I started out as a caldari pilot, changed rapidly to gallente since piracy and closecombat is more my style, but recently i have felt compelled to start training minmatar weapons and ships to survive in this age of the uber nosferatu, it makes me laugh everytime i see one of those boost minmatar sigs lol, they are truly the best suited to survive this nos>everything age with their capless guns with great range and good speed.
But that beeing said i still love my gallente ships, theyr just not as viable for solo work nowdays cuz of their thirst for the cap

I like Gallante alot, however, they're not always the best PvP race (naturally). In general, on average, they're best though.
Thing is though, it has its weak points and they're quite easy to exploit. Fortunately it hasn't happened as much that they are crap, gallante probably produces the best results in PvP of all races. But still, the weak points are mostly:
- Crap range. I understand you have a sniper ship and want to brag bout it to proove me wrong. But *in general* gallante have really bad range. Most people use Antimatter(t1) or Void (t2) for their blasters, and thus even with nice skills get a range of about 1-3km on BattleCruisers.
Most Gallante PvP setups have range not bigger than 5km. Therefor races like Minmatar can easily outrun them, which is made easier using a web. Belt piracy that starts ususally at ranges of 5-30km means gallante pilots will have a huge gap to fill, and they aren't the fastest race, nor get any AB/MWD bonuses standard.
Now in the past this hasn't been exploited yet. Somehow I still find myself getting in range perfectly fine 9 out of 10 times. But I have run into situations where my dual web and MWD didn't do the trick (out of web range, momentum).
- Gallante ships are balanced on Drones What does this mean? Ships like the Myrmidon get no turret bonuses, because they get alot of extra damage from drones. While say a Minmatar BattleCruiser gets a 66% damage bonus from its turrets, the Myrmidon gets a nice 50% damage bonus for drones.
Now that's fine, but, when turrets aren't boosted by ship bonuses because your drones are, you're going to be in a bad situation when those drones *die*. Currently if you stay out of web range of a gallante ship, if he's a fool, he'll send his drones for you right away.
In my Myrmidon I once found a Harbringer, I won, cause I was so badass, but he had me webbed, I had him dual webbed... Still, my speed was only 10-80 (had some speed penalty from rigs) using the MWD in bursts. His speed was about 8, as you can imagine, even with my dual web, his single web ment it took me about 2 to 3 minutes to get close to him using the MWD half of the time! In that time I kept my 4 drones in my bay.
Now cause a Myrm has a great tank I got there and ripped him apart. But the point is, even with a MWD, and dual web on him, he was able to stay out of range for 3 minutes. The drones I sent to him initially he webbed and almost insta-popped (drones got no tank). Because I had no bonuses to turrets, each drone was worth about 15% of my damage. Every few volley he was able to kill off 1 drone. In close range I can call em back while they're still in shield, but 7km away a drone has to tank a battlecruiser for about 10-60 seconds (webbed or not), it's not gonna happen.
Last point - Vulnerable to Nos I understand, not nearly as bad as Amarr, but they require cap. Caldari and Minmatar barely require cap for weapons if at all. Still, if your cap's dry, your drones got popped, you got no damage. It's like a racing-car without wheels, the match is over, he lost. A minmatar or Caldari can still put out 100% of his damage and hope his un-hardened un-boosted hitpoints will last longer than the opponent.
So a summary... - Gallante ships are at times balanced on drones. Therefor do not get turret bonuses. So everytime a drone dies, you don't lose some extra damage, you lose your main damage output.
- Gallante ships can easily be outranged, they aren't the fastest ships, but also have crap range. Sending in drones means they'll get focussed on and die, which often means you lose your biggest damage output.
Now don't get me wrong. I purely fly Gallante, Love em, and get *great* results using Gallante. But a Minmatar has great damage, range, speed, and a good tank too.
Drones are btw extremely useful. A droneboat can get 475dps (max) using em, that's an entire BattleCruiser worth of Damage ontop of your own damage. They also can jam, which actually works well, and help tank.

Gallente rocks.....Myrmidon with nos and/or t2 vulcans and full tank on bottom. Plenty of midslot to tackle, cap booster, mwd etc. Slap some t2 ogres 'n' beserkers in the drone bay and you have a killing machine.
Downside with drones is at gates when going about my gate toll duty/module collection service.

Gallente are nice, but I find myself getting bored of them and envying other races at every turn for their ships. They're much more interesting.
But drones are very, very useful as long as they don't get killed. Smartbombs hurt drones... badly.
