It was my "cash crop" so to speak in my earliest days as a capsuleer and still today occaisionally enjoys the top slot for ISK/m3 in the Empire. Kernite in 0.7? In publicly-known asteroid belts, even? Amazing! A miner in analogous Republic or Federation space would squeal in delight to find such a thing. I suppose it goes without saying that because Empire high-security space is wealthier in minerals it has an advantage in industry and shipbuilding. But then Omber is a bit less bulky than Kernite, if memory serves me correctly. |

Right. Most folks use cruiser or battlecruiser hulls specially fit for this duty....just wait until you're in C5 space and hit your first Vital Core Reservoir with its 5000 unit C540 cloud (that thing requires 2 jetcans to harvest fully!). |

And to a larger extent, the uneven distribution of mineral resources also impacts the common person living planet-side: commodities, vehicles, and even some building are made up of metals made from asteroid ores. Indeed, the very livelihood of the cluster depends on its industrial backbone.
I'm curious.
Are you suggesting that the pirate activities in what we call 'Empire space' are making a net positive contribution to the Empire economy, since the invading pirates build their ships and modules in nullsec? That the pirates in effect function as a cheap way of transporting rarer minerals to the parts of space already depleted of these minerals?

Military activity of any sort, be it on the part of lawful entities or outlaws, redistributes mineral resources in favor of the victor. Think about it: if an Angel Cartel fleet invades a Republic system and gets swiftly destroyed, the Republic victors would safely be able to salvage and scavenge for re-usable sources of minerals. Of course, if two major empires clash the same is true (as I explained earlier the empires' navies have long since consumed the rarer materials, and so their ships are made of them).
So to answer your question directly: sort of. Every faction in the cluster has a prescence in each others' space, and this ensures that the rarer materials such as megacyte and zydrine will be spread out fairly evenly in the form of ships. No one can doubt, however, that even if pirates benefit resource scavengers such as myself they still inflict much harm on the citizens of the empires. |

I have had my time in wormhole space and the sleepers are indeed powerful. A battleship from our company had to join us in order to clear out the enemies and run security but it turned out quite profitiable. With only two miners, a hauler and a battleship we pulled out minerals to finish a round of battleships we had been building.
Clearly this was a dangerous but profitable venture. |

Clearly this was a dangerous but profitable venture. Be glad I wasn't around in my bomber, or else you probably would have been sent packing, one way or another... |
