suddenly i see wild reflections running over my blasters and here this weird sound. It sounded in looked like the gate just went active.
in my fury i start to activate all my guns and look at my overview and see a nice drake uncloaking...
now I start using the famous method to target a person:
ctrl + click on target
and the counter runs down...
...your targeting attempt failed...
rgr this, same procedure again
...your targeting attempt failed...
nervous breakdown I see him aligning
...your targeting attempt failed... ...your targeting attempt failed... ...your targeting attempt failed... ...your targeting attempt failed... ...
a nearby "tackler" in his domi helps me and can scramble him. 2 Minutes later i'm still sitting there and getting really annoyed

in my tackler convo chat, he ask me if he can warp he getting problems tanking it...

so after 3 minutes or so I finally got a lock and could start to unleash my blasters and slowly killing him.
but why do I have this damn locking problem in the first place?
I had it with several targets, frigates, mining barges, haulers, battlecruisers all in one night and lost how many kills I don't dare to count...
is locking now chance based and I should switch my signature from "eves worst pirate" to "eves worst and unluckiest pirate" ?
locking methods i tried:
- ctrl + click on overview - click on overview and press the lock button - click in space on target and say lock - click on overview on target and say lock - screaming at the monitor "lock the ******** target! NOW"
please do i suck so bad?

Your last kill in your sig seems to be the reason. A Maulus with sensor dampeners had reduced your lock range dramatically and your scan resolution (making it take longer to lock). The repeated fails can be attributed to your target moving in and out of your lock range.

I've had the same on my apoc. Now, that has a locking range of around 70km, and I was locking a webbed nanoship 30km away from me. There were no sensor dampening going on, no one was even locking me. I managed to get a lock after making a short warp towards a nearby gate.

CCP says clear your cache files to me this just means get lossed, I wished the GM would do the same

it is sadly not related to dampeners or so.
i had tonight a really interresting event. We engaged a raven at a gate and some locking problem. Afterwards we read the killmail. (one in our gang actually locked him somehow...)

he 0 fittings. Absolutley zero. And he was quite ****ed afterwards. cause the next 45 minutes or so he jumped in with a shuttle out with a shuttle.
anyway. So this is definitively a bug and not module related. It also gets really annoying. But hey I love to clear my cache and create all overview settings again...

Wow...the inability to lock...
That doesn't completely nerf pirates or anything...
I think this needs to be looked into with priority, considering the fact that pirates, PvPers, warring alliances, and even miners need to lock things or else they can't play. Locking is too essential for CCP to ignore this bug. ----------

I have the same thing every now and again. The single most annoying bug ever.
Had a drake that had clearly gone afk outside a station and i was in my b'thron. took me a full 5 miutes of retrying to lock him and finally kill him.

I get this when ratting sometimes. -
If you go into your options menu, there's a difficulty slider. Put that all the way over to the easiest setting and you'll be fine. |

It would be funny if the common thread in all these "OMG I can't lock!" posts is that the pilots use at least 1 WCS.

WCS doesn't prevent you from locking, it only increases the time it takes to lock something.
I'd rather have that than to not be able to lock at all. :p

Each WCS also cuts your max target range by 50%. Fit 3 on your BS that can normally target to 80 KM and now it only targets to 10 KM or some such.
Effectivly making it look like you "cant get a lock on anything" (because not many things you try to lock are within 10km).
