Don't "fix" please.
The game is already fixed.
The game is the way it's supposed to be now.
And it's working just fine :)

I'm not so sure.
I took on the swarms solo and with others. What I learned was that it's like throwing dice. Skill, teamwork, or tactics do not matter. If the super-swarm program logic decides it's your day to die, you're dead.
My thoughts are the pirates are too many, too fast, and hit too hard. I'm seeing a lot of people learn this the hard way.
And I've learned it too. But I'm one of the lucky ones. I got out with my ship and my gear.
I'm not going back.

That's so?
Me and my mates has been MINING in 0.0 space for ABOUT A TOTAL OF 16 HOURS since the patch. Got us a fair amount of bistot and MERCOXITE (deep core mining).
Yea, big groups of nasty pirates spawn 10 km away from us frequently. But we're yet to loose a ship.
Skill, teamwork, and tactics do matter.

Edited by: Zen Later on 19/12/2003 06:00:15 Dalman...what's the biggest spawn you're mining group(s) have had to contend with so far and what was the mix of the NPC spawn (BS's and cruisers)?

The hardest spawn I have seen in the system where we were mining consist of: 1x 1M battleship + 2x 750k battleships +4x 85k cruisers + 6x 65k cruisers.
But somehow, no such spawn has spawned right on us while mining. Most of the spawns are just a good amounts (up to 18 NPCs) of cruisers and frigates, sometimes with a battleship among them. And we're very happy about that, but also always prepared that the next second such a spawn may be 10km away from us.
However, since while mining, all NPCs always spawn very close to a target (like 10 km away), that also means that all cruisers and frigates are in range to do damage instantly. Therefor, a spawn with 18 NPCs of just cruisers and frigates may in fact be as hard as a spawn with 13 NPC of which 3 are battleships.

Kewl...thanks for the 411.
Reason I ask is some of our prelim scouting has revealed similiar spawns...scariest one we've seen is a 25 rat swarm

Sounds like a big operation.
Do you use a fleet of ships to protect the miner? |

Warning.....The universe jsut grew teeth and a pair of cast iron balls to match!!!!! I mean c'mon, just think about it. What would make more sense then the 3 most hated alliances teaming up to lay waste to the people they all hate anyways? CA is already allied with PA, and TPS lies between the two alliances. Natural allies to be sure. But it's not just that, all but PA (and even some of them) have adopted a "stfu and die, or come and fight us, we don't give a **** what you think or do" philosophy, as well as a PvP Kill everyone not friend kind of mentality. These are the people in eve that kill or convert, the ones dedicated to the death of others, because history, circumstance, and the rest of eve have driven then to do so (except TPS, who are just cool ass pirates ). |

Yes, Dalman, I would like to know how you are able to protect the miners efficiently ?
How many BS's do you use for protection only ? How come you dont lose the mining ships when a spawn occurs on top of them ?
Are you using a 10 BS fleet equipped for mining and defense or something ? (say 2 miner II's and rest defense kitted)

Hint: Extreme defence >> Extreme offence. All ships needs to be setup to be able to take a huge beating.
Since we've been mining mercoxit with dcm we can not use a setup where each ship fits 2 mining lasers each.
Been using 4-5 battleships as guards.

Does not work. Cause NPCs ALWAYS spawn about 10 km away from a target.
We've been mining in a HUGE belt. Sometimes 340km away from the centre of the belt. The NPCs still spawned 10 km away from us.
