Aye, the intels are better, the only reason i'm gonna get an athlon 64x2 as it's the only dual core CPU that will fit onto my mobo. Lack of money ftl :(

Im currently running
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200 Operating system: Windows Xp 64bit Memory: 2046mb PC 3200 Hard drive: duel 250gb Sata 2's both 7200 RPM Optical Drive: CD drive and DVD drive, both rewrite what they read. Graphics card: Duel geforce 6800XT and an ATI 9250 Radeon
First of all the 64 X2 series IS duel core. for 1600 USD you should be able to put a machine like mine together, and have something left over. As for changes, forget about Vista, right now it's a mess and it will mess games with till no end. If your running a 64bit chip (the 4600 is 2.4, 2.6 or higher GHZ right?) you'll want windows XP 64bit with an upgrade coupon to Vista so that soon as SP 1 (service pack one) you can grab it for direct X 10 at little to no cost. Keep away from ATI cards if you can afford a Geforce, in my expierence ATI cards are sub par to GEforce, and they cost about the same. 64bit drivers can be found for integrated hardware like sound, and basic graphics as well as most add in cards these days so making it work shouldn't be hard. The hard drives seem good for games to run like nothing before you want a 16mb cache but 8mb will run EVE just fine long as you have a 7200+ RPM drive, because EVE is a hardrive based client.. .no discs :( so that means you need a fast Hardrive.
So, things i would recomend changing are: Operating system to windows xp 64bit Graphics card to a GeForce 7900, or 7950, or 8800 (depending on what you got the money for)
Everythign else seems right up to par so your good to go
Regarding Intel Vs AMD performance, keep in mind that a 64bit chip running at 2.2gzh runs like a 32bit at 4.4ghz, so if you buy one of Intel's fancy lil quad core chips at 3.0 ghz per core, your at 12ghz total, with MAJOR heat issues when you actually run the thing hard. While you can have a 3.0ghz duel core 64bit AMD and have the same processing power, and less heat issues, throw in the fact that AMD's LIKE to run at about 60C and your practically set! OH, and one other thing, Intels fancy quad cores cost like 700-1000 USD while an AMD 3.0ghz costs about 400-700 USD.

Really not true. 64bit give little speed increase but allow you to have more thant 2gig of memory. Plus the program need to be compiled in 64bit to acess bigger memory pointer size. You can still run 32bit programs with a 64bit 0s, but with the help of emulation.
Saying that 64bit is twice as fast as a 32bits, its simply not the case.
Also, dual, quad, octal of whatsoever number of core dont provide u 2x,4x or 8x speed increase. It just allow you to run more stuff inparallel. A single program needs to use threading to use more than one core at the time, but it wont go twice fast as most algorithm need to sinchronize at a choque point when running 2 things at once. Again, it depends if the program was desing for that. So far the only game i konw that use multiple core is Supreme Commander.

I would go for something with a little more power in the gpu department. the x1300 is nice but it just doesn't have enough ummmp. If you can spare a little more an 8600 may be a nice option or even an x1950 pro, there fairly cheap nowadays and still good cards.

Saying something like that completely discounts your credibility in the realm of PC hardware.
I think the specs the OP is making are really weak for ú800. Look what $1500usd can buy when you build your own computer:
Intel Core2Duo E6600, EVGA 8800gts 320MB, EVGA nforce 650i, Corsair 2GB XMS2, Creative Xi-Fi XtremeGamer, Seagate 320GB SATA, Lian Li V600.
And take my word for it, the difference between a ATI Radeon X1300 Pro and a Nvidia 8800GTS is huge. Even if you can't build your own computer I think you should atleast expect a Radeon 1850 or Nvidia 7950 for your money.

Agreed. Anyone who thinks that a 64-bit chip is magically 2 times faster at everything really should not be saying anything on the topic.

well right away I would say no to vista, especially without a DX10 video card there is really no point at all.
actually I would stay with the X2, a C2D 6400 will cost 50-60$ more with fairly minimal performance gain and that would be much better spend on a better video card.. i don't even know how well that will run eve. the x1900 line is at a really good price/performance standing now for dx9 so i would see if you can spend the extra money on that.

I went from the x1300 512mb (thank god for that 512 ram or that card would have died on me with a widescreen monitor) to teh 8800gts 640 and the difference is absolutely MASSIVE The 8800gts is also a nice overclocker, a realm which i havent ventured yet and it still kicks butt at stock speed.
Also please don't skimp on the psu, it will **** you off in the long run if you wish to upgrade if it doesn't take a dump on you before that.
But tbh those specs for that price seem a little low, what is the conversion rate is like 800=1500 usd? jeeze for 1500 you could make something that would kill that thing there.
E6400/e6600 8800gts 320/640 2gb ram case of your choice (i prefer the antec sonata's they come with decent psus) 320gb hdd pw5 dh or similar, depends if u want option of CF or SLI later on
I have always used onboard sound, it doesn't bother me and i don't have a problem with it so theres some money saved to :)
