I'm debating getting a second computer for Eve being that I'm getting yelled at for being on the desktop to much and no one else can get on it. Being that I'm still paying this system off since my old one broke in September I'm trying to go for a budget system. I'm looking at an HP with a Celeron 356 (3.33ghz) with 512mb ram and integrated graphics. Now It's my understanding the Celeron is based off the p4 architecture. Which means the cpu should be able to handle everything Eve has to throw at it right now. As for the ram I wouldn't opt for an upgrade because I can get another 512 at half the price HP wants. That would bring the total ram to 1gb with at most 256 shared to the GPU. Essentialy this is the cheapest system HP has to offer and will run me about $307. Should this be able to handle Eve on Vista Home Basic without any problems or will I need to look at any additional specs? Any help would be great.

If you go into your options menu, there's a difficulty slider. Put that all the way over to the easiest setting and you'll be fine. |

if you get a celeron you might as well throw it against a wall.
a friend of mine at work had a brand new celeron laptop with abosulty nothing changed from the factory, nothing and xp was running so slow that when you clicked on the menu bar there was 30 second waits for everything. i had to turn off all prety things for it to even run.

instead of the celeron, go for the athlon 64 (939). It is close to the same price and will outperform the celereon 3xx series easily.
You may also want to look at building your own system and install XP (can be brought cheap with the release of vista). Vista will slow down your system considerbaly compared to an XP install.
General rule of thumb is to also stay away from brand name systems. If your unsure how to make your own computer, visit your local PC store. They will often build your system for you for a minimal fee.

Edited by: Dave White on 12/03/2007 01:12:30 I had a Celeron once while playing EVE. Made me cry.
Got a new processor a few months ago, the difference is massive. *snip* - signature removed. Please email us with a link if you wish to know why. -Ivan K |

Would I be better off maybe buying a used system thats to spec? I'm kinda short on budget money for this and I want to keep playing Eve a lot :) Also have they released the specs for the new client coming out?
You really don't think the 3.3ghz celeron can handle it? What about the AMD Sempron 3400+? That is the Dell equivalent system that I can get for about $317...?

That computer won't even be able to run Vista.
Let alone EVE.

I aggree, Flat screens may be the latest thing, but CRT picture quality is sooo much better.

um i had no problem reading it. I feel for you, books must be terribly difficult for you yes :)?
That system seems fine for playing music and videos and web browsing and everything, but integrated graphics have always been a BIG NO-NO for me when it comes to games.
LOL @ dell...gotta respect them for being honest!

Edited by: Tirg on 16/03/2007 12:39:11 Ok, after looking on ebay for systems similar to my desktop- they have slightly nicer systems for under 400 bucks:)
My laptop is state of the art ( 2000 dollar system), but I use my desktop for eve. Plain old Windows XP. Its an HP, AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 2.08 Ghz 1.25 GB Ram. Yup, that's it. Don't think I even have a fancy soundcard.... This system I got in what, 2003? I upgraded the ram to max out. My son uses it to run WoW, and a couple other games. The only time I get lag issues, is when everyone else is getting lag issues. Of course, I use broadband.
*edit* I checked, yep, intergrated sound- Realtec 97 audio or something. My graphics card is NVIDIA Gforce FX 5200 ULTRA. Well, it was high tech at the time....

More helpfully:a lot of people will tell you that Intel integrated graphics chips won't play Eve. This is not entirely correct. I have a laptop with it and it plays Eve passably. I'd be wary of doing anything more than mining or couriering with it but as a means to log on and skill change/chat/play the market/shift assets around it's fine. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)
