Hi all
I'm experiencing some weird graphical issues with Eve-online. The UI and the log-in window flickers and blinks. But not always, usually I can flip back and forth into windows to fix the issue, but lately that don't work either. I've tried nearly every setting in ATI Catalyst with no success.
There's a heat indicator in Catalyst that got my attention, it was currently at 74 degrees Centigrade, kinda high if you ask me. But the flickering/blinking issues sometimes appears even after the PC's been turned off over-night and the temperature is around 50...
Any ideas???
I've got an ATI Radeon X1900 (512 MB) card, on an AMD 64x2 Dual Core 5200+ computer with 2GB. Running Windows XP MCE ver 2002. I'm running Eve in 1920x1200 pixels, fullscren, Z-buffer and 60 Hz.

Are you using the latest Catalyst driver?
Also did this issue occur all of a sudden or has it been like this for a long time?

Yes, I'm using the 8.342.0.0 drivers dated Feb 02 2007 and Catalyst 7.2.
It's been like this for awhile... At least since I'm playing Eve... only about 10 days old... But it's not all the time...

Make sure the card is seated properly. Uninstall and reinstall the drivers.

I'm getting this same flicker also. I have definitely determined it to be a UI issue. System Specs:
AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+ 3GB Corsair XMS PRO ABIT FATAL1TY AN8 RADEON x1900xt 512MB
When running two window clients, this issue occurs much more frequently (pretty much constantly) on atleast one of the windows (sometimes occurs on both, but normally just one very badly). The normal fix of changing graphics settings to something else (normaly to color depth) that normally works to fix this when only one client is running doesn't help. This flicker goes away when you hide the UI (CNTRL-F9) however that kinda of makes even unplayable at that point. :P I determined that the flicker is actually the video drawing white triangles of different shapes

I have the exact same issue. It is terrible and it happened all of a sudden.
I log in and can play fine for 5 minutes or so, then the screen starts flickering in all colors of the rainbow. Stripes and lines appear everywhere.
Can anyone help please?
I use an ATI9700pro

I had this for a moment on my ATI Mobility card in my laptop, however, changing the Z-buffer to 16 bits solved the problem for me.
You may want to enter the graphics settings and try a different Z-Buffer/Depth buffer setting yourself:

If you have upgraded hardware make sure you have power that meets the specs. By installing a power supply with higher W might just (often) solve the problem. poof

Damn...
I had the feeling my graphic card had gone fubar... So I bought a new one today, a GeForce 7300GT 256MB
However, I still get the "triangles" flying thru my screen... this happens after a few minutes of play.
I did play eve for 3 months without trouble, this happened to me all of a sudden.
What I have tried uptill now:
1. Cleaned my computer, removed dust. 2. Removed graphics card and put it back in again. 3. Checked if fans will still operating. 4. Checked for new drivers. 5. Reinstalled drivers. 6. Downloaded Eve client and reinstalled it. 7. Changed all the graphic settings in Eve. 8. Changed all graphic settings in windows. (resolution and some of the 3D acceleration options) 9. Bought a new graphics card..... ATI Radeon 9700 pro 128Mb >>>>>>>> Nvidia GeForce 7300GT 256Mb
Im gonna run a DirectX diagnostic, but Im kinda out of ideas beyond that...
Anyone know what I could do?
Thank you!

No problems with my X1950 Pro. I'm running Catalyst 8.33.
Have you tried uninstalling the Catalyst drivers and using the latest Omega drivers instead?
If the card is running at 74 C then I'd really look into some liquid cooling or something. The memory is probably running hot too and heat causes all sorts of weird problems.

This was what was sent as a response to my petition. To be honest I don't feel confident that this will fix it.
Please anyone that tries it and gets it to work this way let me know. For me it didnt. Im gonna re-petition it and I strongly suggest others who have the same problem to inform CCP. The game is near to un-playable at the moment.
Which is a real shame, it's such a great game.
Hi.
Start by visiting http://www.windowsupdate.com and install all recommended updates.
Install the latest motherboard chipset drivers: http://www.sis.com/download/agreement.php?url=/download/
Uninstall the current soundcarddriver and then install the latest one. You can find the latest driver here : http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/ Note download all recommended drivers/files for your sound card.
Download the latest DirectX update and install ( http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&DisplayLang=en ). If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us again. We'll do all we can to help.

Sounds like it could be a directx problem. A new version was released in Feb I think so try that.
I'm running an ATi 1950 256mb at the moment and haven't had this issue.
Nvidia cards are for people that wet the bed IMHO :p

I'm running a ATI x1950 w/256 Ram and not having any problems, I also run Eve on my laptop that has a AMD Turion and ATI chipset and don't have any problems with it, Graphics wise that is. Sound, now thats a different issue, but Graphics I'm rock'n.
If you are having problems with your ATI/NVidia graphics...use a program called drive cleaner pro to wipe out all your drivers and do a clean install of them. Also update your DirectX.

Could somebody link me to the latest direct x drivers?
I downloaded and installed what I though would be the latest drivers.
EVE worked fine for about 10 minutes (in which i was proudly announcing to my buddies in corp chat that I had fixed my graphics bug!!) upon docked and undocked from a station and my graphics where FUBAR again.

Edited by: vis xero on 06/07/2007 09:49:33 Edited by: vis xero on 06/07/2007 09:49:23 I don't know the spec of my ATI graphics, but the day before patch day my PC started rebooting every time I started Eve, never any other programs, just Eve.
I found a new Ge Force Graphics card did the Trick.
And I replaced my Sound card as I had on board realtek sound, and once I had fixed Eve rebooting the PC all the time I found I couldn't run eve and Vent together.

running windows vista here with direct x 10.0 using a geforce 8600 GT. I get no graphical problems with eve other than the planets still flickering sometimes.
It got a bit less after some patch ccp deployed a bit ago tho, so it might be eve related and not your computer.
(I just bought a complete new computer hence :))

Having same issues with my ATI Radeon X1900-series.
Can confirm following: * A month or two ago this was not happening at all in EVE, however I got these issues if I first played EVE and then logged out and started another game. * Slightly before the latest xpac this escalted (i.e. happened already in EVE, didn't have to log out/swap game), with the patch hitting I can't play for more than max 5 minutes before this is triggered, for some reason. * As other posters said, starting up a 2nd client makes it worse. * Today in a 100+ gang I noticed this flickering got really bad, in fact almost whole screen got white, while near jumpgates. With max zoom out I hardly got any flickering at all. * Apart from the flickering I have this usual one or two 'pillars' that points out like a horn from the ingame models (either a ship or a station).
What I have tried to do: * Uninstall driver and re-install both the old/original version that came with the card, as well as the latest driver. * Recently formatted my HD and first thing I did was to install the most recent version (without installing the old first) and that seemed to make this problem worse (!).
There is definately 'triggers', like opening a 2nd client or swapping between different games. Taking a guess I feel quite confident this is the ATI-driver that doesn't like EVE at all. Considering it also (recently, never did before) started to occur in other games, like old Warcraft3 and in WoW as well, this is not an issue with EVE not working well with ATI, this is ATI not working well with well.. most stuff.
Going to get a nVidia card next time. Never had this experience with nVidia before. If someone has some solution or tip of where to download alternate drivers for ATI until then it'd be appreciated.
Ah, also, I'm getting an error message from a microsoft driver that the ATI-update asked me to get. Can't recall the name of it but as it's related to the ATI-driver and the windows driver give an error message.. it's not really reassuring that the ATI drivers require some ms-driver - that isn't compatible with the ATI one. >.<
How to solve this? Apart from the obvious - avoid ATI?

My Nvidia card is doing the same, I switched from ATI to Nvidia and the problem persisted.
So I advise not to spend more money on a graphics card... Eve did something to my computer... (Xfiles tune )
Since that patch im gettin this weird glitch on a lot of games...
