Edited by: Shan''Talasha Mea''Questa on 13/03/2007 10:56:22 What I have learned: It's the player that makes the ceptor, not the character. If your skills are through the roof it helps, but what tips the scales is if YOU know what you're doing.
Best way to learn, try tackling in T1 frigs, loose a lot of them and figure out why that happens, the correct yourself and lose less. When you're satisfied with your survival-rate... step into the ceptor of your choice.
Although... if you have ISK to burn.... nvm.

I guess you'll have more fun with either a Cruiser or a Destroyer. Especially since you don't seem to belong to the above mentioned ISK-burning category.

with 6mil SP. "scattered out" i can fly assault ship, inty and stealth bomber"sb not that good". i can use most tech II small components. and within this month i can basicly use everything for a good inty/assault ship setup. just need to work on that awu after that. for a perfect fitting. but remember. there is flying a ship. and there is using a ship. Missiles. The General consensus is that these give you the range to stay out of web range..which incidentally lost me my last rigged crow (force recon ship ack).
Staying at at least 15km+ range is a must.
As for other skills, well named mods seem to work better than T2 mods on this, so just stuff that gives you better speed and more cap really.

Been thinking.... to fly a Ceptor, you need one to start with.... but that is kind off redundant.

Yea it is. I'm talking about skills, hence the skill forum.

If the list that the first two responses is a long way out for you then yes, to fly one properly is a long way out for you. That list is really the bare minimum to fly it properly.
As far as flying it in a gang, you could do that so long as you can effectively tackle and stay alive. I'll leave you to figure out what level is needed for that, since I don't know what situation you are facing very often.
The first two posters gave you good advice, however... the point about the pilot > ship or skill is a good one too.

You need racial frigate skill level V and interceptor lv I to fly an interceptor. To pilot one properly is a different story. I've dedicated 90-95% of my 12 mil in SP in Crow-related skills but I am still about 200-250 days away from piloting it in a way that would satisfy me.
Max out cap, speed, weapon, tank, rig, implant, electonic, ship-skills ect.
If you want to be better than the average joe you will need implants and faction modules. To support these expensive interceptors (yes, you will loose some) you'll have to come up with a trade to generate money.

I dont plan on flying a ceptor perfectly. Not yet at least, since I have no idea how it is to fly one (my crow is pretty in the station though!). So far im working on general fitting/cap skills, cuz they are secksey.

If you are main tackler, just navigation skills, prop jamming, and cap and fitting skills really...forget weapons. If you just want to add a bit of damage you'll really just need fitting skills and weapons skills. Or tbh just fly it with whatever while you train better skills.
Edit: You don't really tank a ceptor other than speed tank or damage control or a plate, some people a small rep but tbh ceptors aint made for tankin so I just don't bother. If you get focused fire, just run, that's why you're fast

Fer: I speedtank it like it's supposed to. But some ships will still land hits on you when orbiting them so you will need a good tank to survive long enough to warp away or try to shield tank it.
When you go down in a ceptor it happens very fast
