We do not need this in EVE!
You did not start to play EVE because you wanted to walk inside a house. You did not start to play EVE because you one day hoped you could walk on a planet and kill TZoorgos or whatever they would call a gnoll.
Do not expand the game in silly ways that would make it like any other game out there.
Please let me have a game where i dont have to walk a meter by foot to find an agent or my bank or the auction house or any other similar uneccecary things like that.
On every other game out there you are walking on solid earth, play that, or play both.

Edited by: Kaalen on 13/03/2007 03:11:48 Get this into your skull, walking in stations is a bonus that EVE is getting because CCP are making another MMO. Walking in stations will be optional, the menu will still be there. This new feature will not mean that they are taking out the existing part of EVE so all this 'making EVE like any other MMO' is nonsense.
CCP do not want EVE to be like WoW. Just because you get to stretch your legs a bit doesn't mean that there will EVER be any grinding and killing mobs on foot WoW style. Neither will EVE turn into an FPS like some people are speculating. Read the information you are given before flying off the handle that your beloved game is being ruined, because all that I have jsut said is written down for you in plain enlgish all over these forums and the websites that you got your info from.

1. What Kaalen said.
2. CCP have said multiple times that walking in stations will be optional, the current way of playing will still be available.

So you're saying that walking in stations will be completely mandatory and we'll have to change our way of playing or perish in a fiery blaze? Got it.

Don't think of the draw backs all but think of the potential !!!!!
Here are some and I am sorry but doing these from my ship would be well cheezy !!!! Ships can and should have only so many interfaces you should have to go to a station for more.
The ability to run a war from a war room Graphically see the regions I control and the POS's and there locations. The ability to check on the current fuel levels Things that should and could only be done from a station....
The list goes on and on.
AND THEY ARE USEFUL THINGS

walking around stations/planets is the one thing keeping 20-30 people I know(from SWG) from playing EVE, the lack of having an avatar that walks around
it may seem strange to some people, but there is some out there who find it hard to play a MMO always in a vehicle

Earth and Beyond had huge flaws in the game, and lack of any added content, its failure had nothing to do with walking around stations

Edited by: Sheriff Jones on 13/03/2007 05:35:26 Actually i DID start playing this game so that one day i COULD land on planets, and walk in stations, and pew pew inside other ships, and kill the evil ants(come on...do it allready... ) and battle the Jove(ok, so i'm still waiting) and this news is GREAT.
Especially since it's not forced and it's...lalalaaaaa....*clears throat* What's that word, opposite of mandatory...

THink of it this way.
CCP is not telling you have to change what you are doing. I know some that have NEVER done missions they have decided not to see that part of the game.
All CCP is doing is adding more content and if you choose to explore that extra content that is entirely up to you. This game has endless potential and I can see in the future people who JUST play it to live on a planet or live in a station and only get in a ship ocassionly. I see nothing wrong with it. THey are not asking you to leave your comfort zone so to speak.
Personnally I hope I am NEVER able to say I have seen and done it all in this game because that will mean end game.
They are not taking away staff to do this they are adding staff to handle the extra content.
So embrace the change and enjoy the ride. W

I agree. But more then that. It will enhanche empire too. Missions from the planet surface. In deep space we can have terraforming of planets. Making them usable! For me, this is the way to the perfect game! Better utilization of a allready great game!
I am looking forward for the social aspect of it too. Walk in stores? Chatting and hanging on the corners with your local corp and pod members.
For me this is one of two things I want to see in game.
1. Jove faction introduced as player character! 2. Walking in stations and better utilizing of planets!
I cant wait!!

Wow, can¦t believe the nano-whine has been replaced with whine about an awesome feature. WIS (walking in Station) IS OPTIONAL, and for those who think that CCP removes resources from bugfixing, you¦re wrong. WIS is something different, and it would really help the immersion which some seek. After 4 years in space, I would love to stretch my legs a bit

hehe Will downloading that foul program be OPTIONAL? No? Then count me out...I already cut down to this last account. When the patch comes out, (Hopefully) I will have enough warning) I will cancel this account.
The first thing that will happen is:
1. Jita IV-V will become the laughing stock of online games. 2. Youtube will have a video of a bunch of Amarr's doing a line dance. 3. Soon as you REMOVE all them hoses and wires, and step out of the pod...your hear, "JITA'S BEST Casino!!" "WTS ----!" "Tech II kitted Megi LFG in 10/10 plex!"
So yes its nice, but those items above will draw the wrong crowd to Eve-online....I dont want to play another EQ!

What bit of THERE WON'T BE ANY STUPID DANCE EMOTES have you failed to grasp? Which bit of it's only a few extra MB of program to DL, just like any other large patch is so horrifyingly crippling to your computer and net connection? What makes you think people who come to EVE looking to line dance with Amarr in stations will stick around once they discover they can't? There's already people running casino type games for ISK - all the 'Jita Casino' would do is put a graphical front end on to something that's already being run by enterprising pod pilots.
I'm skeptical about useful new content but I don't see it changing the game outside of the stations. Get a grip.

Walking in stations can't have a negative effect because you are not forced to live with it. It is therefore unable to pee in your soup.
Im thrilled of this because when i started eve i naturaly assumed that there would be instation walking because thats what MMORPG's _usually_ are.
This missing didn't have a great effect on me enjoying the game, but it being added will further aid me in enjoying the game.
Also seeing people in characters could have lots of positive social sides to it.

Sometimes I like to dock after nearly losing my ship, with about 10% hull left. Basically a huge flaming ball of fire. With extra flames.
Will this be represented in the WIS? Or will it magically reappear as a shiny new ship in the hangar sequence?
Instead of some guy standing there giving me a salute, I would like to see a small crowd gathering around the ship as it pulls in, perhaps toasting some marshmallows on my Cyclone T2 BBQ.
