Greetings fellas.
I recently bought a killer system - including 2 nVidia 8800's and 2 new monitors.
Now I'm not very computer savvy, but I can tell that something is up. I have one client running on my bigger and higher res monitor (1920x1200). Smooth as butter when it's the only one up. I can add two more clients on the same screen and they're all very high FPS.
When I move my 2 alt accounts to my other screen, my main account drops to something like 10-30 FPS depending on location. When I kill the 2 alt acconts, the main one goes back to the very high FPS (50-100 as I recall). I'm not sure what's happening, but it doesnt sound like my video cards are optimized to run 2 monitors.
I screwed with setting my 2 alt accounts to my other video card ingame. I don't quite remember what happened, but I think I had to blow away the cache to use them again. I've been through display options with the monitors a gillion times, and it's proved nothing more than a pain.
So does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep my main screen/acct at a higher FPS? My machine is quite capable...

could it be that the first gfx card is still rendering all 3 eve clients and just sends the output over to the other card instead of handing the rendering over to the second card? (first parameter in dx9 function createdevice defines the adapter number)
did you try starting the alts on the secondary monitor directly? (or is there an option in eve to select the rendering card? advancedDevice=1) maybe the second card takes over if you try to minimize or switch to fullscreen and back on the second monitor

That sounds logical. In EVE there is a place where you can select the video card - I will toy with that a bit.
Other than that, I don't know how to start the other two accounts on the second monitor directly when I open the same EXE 3 times - 1 for my primary monitor and twice for the secondary.

If you are running multiple screens, with one or more video cards you must set your clients to a specific video card in the Eve GFX menu, and in your OS setup one of three multiple screen modes. If you don`t do this you will get FPS and speed problems. Here are two ways to do this: (Both these solutions are only good if you are playing in WINDOWED MODE)
(i) Extended Mode ie: you are running 2 video cards with 3 screens, you client(s) will always launch into your primary screen, and if you leave them there they will run perfect (if you have the cpu and memory), although you may get audio problems with more than 2 clients. When you drag them to the secondary and tertiary screen however you will start getting speed issues.
What you need to do is set each client for a screen in the GFX menu, ie: Client[1] set to Display Adapter[1](Primary) - SCREEN 1 Client[2] set to Display Adapter [1](Secondary) - SCREEN 2 Client[3] set to Display Adapter [2](Primary) - SCREEN 3
After this has been done you will need to make sure the resolution of each client is slightly smaller than their respective screens' resolution. If any client's window overlaps into another screen you will get the FPS and speed issues again.
Because your client always loads to your primary screen you will have to move your clients to the screens you have set them, this can get annoying and I have tried to fix this with the Prefs.ini without anyluck... Each time you have to move the clients to the other screens you will get the Lag issue until they have been moved.
Use this setting if you have you desktop setup to Extended Mode in the OS. (Your desktop is extended onto all screens but are contained desktop real-estate). [You expand a window it will only maximize in the screen that it is currently in]
ii) Expand Multiple screens Horizontally (or Vertically) The other way to fix this problem is to set your desktop to extend multiple screens Horizontally. This way your clients will load in your middle screen first but you will be able to drag them to the other screen with-out any speed issues.
This is also the setting you want to use if you would like to play on one client over more than one screen. 3 screens is the best choice here, as 2 screens will split your ship and ship console in half, and if you screens aren't exactly the same brand or age it will look *real* annoying! :) 3 screens will give you a screen for chatting, logs and evemail, a screen for your ship and console, and one more screen for your overview, with the beautiful eve universe spread the whole way across all three! :) YAY!
The only problem with this is that you OS will treat all screens as one real-estate, ie: when you load Mozilla for instance it will open expanded over all screens... [You maximize a window it will span all screens]
If you are still getting less than 25 - 30 frames with multiple clients and you have setup one of the above options a second I would suggest running all clients in Widescreen mode, or buying a new computer :)
Hope this helps. :)

Forgot - Make sure you have one eve folder set for each character you want to run simultaneously! This will greatly increase speed and you wont get the "Eve folder/ client is damaged or modified" error all the time.
