CCP: Where do you see EVE in 5 years time? Will it be desolate as many predict or do CCP make a magical move where EVE is revived??

Well, I know that a forum full of people complaining about some aspect of EVE will still exist.
To buck the popular trend, I began to Rage Start instead of Rage Quit.
...and every time I get another piece of Carbon, I know exactly what CCP is getting this Christmas.

Do what? You create a thread inviting CCP to comment on itself in its own forum? You hope they'll be "ballsy" enough to have someone gin-up a five-year projection, then post it here? You do know where you are, I trust. This is almost funny.
We must accommodate the idiocracy.

Yes, yes, yes and yes.
Why shouldnt CCP comment on their own forum? I assume you have a car and let everyone else drive it and you havent tried it yet?

Maybe not in 5 year , but eventualy I would say that I see Eve Online becoming a virtual reality universe. By virtual reality I dont mean like Occulus Rift but more like the one you see in Caprica Tv show. ( I know im dreaming here :P )
Eve universe is one of the only game deep enough to accommodate a full virtual reality universe.
But in a more realistic way I do hope they will rework the whole PI UI and add more mini game like project Discovery.
Would be nice to have an arcade like the one in FF7 where you can compete in mini game for ranking.
But the only thing Im sure is that eve online will still be running in 5 year from now. I dont care about what some people say about number dropping. I still see this game as the best game ever made. |

If CCP wanted to update the roadmap, they'd do it in a devblog and vlog from CCP Seagull, not here.

The most recent roadmap update was provided earlier this year, but it isn't a 5 year outloook:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hi0EC7m55wI
That wasn't changed any during Fanfest, so it is still the most recent published information. At Fanfest, CCP Seagull hinted that development is about half way through:
CCP Seagul roadmap slide at Fanfest (source: Neville Smit's blog, which attributes it back to Drackarn's blog)
The full roadmap was published back in 2014 and has about 2 years to run, which would make it a 5 year roadmap from the time it was published:
https://youtu.be/k07Uu7qUEa0?t=5061
I'd also love an update from CCP or their early thinking for beyond the delivery of player-built stargates.

The days of the "Big MMO" are numbered. There are a lot of players out there, free games, and variety. FPS games and "vehicle based" combat games ("World of...") allowing player customization of appearance, loadouts, and even skills already comprise a kind of "Eve Online without grinding and griefing".
Since the lore/chronicles and true live events of Eve have been abandoned (Dropbear era is not only erased, but consider the symbolic final real live event where an entire live event fleet was FED into the maw of a nullsec raep cage to "show us" what Eve was going to be all about. Was this to the snickering of certain devs and other managers who had it in for Dropbear's vision? ) the game seems flat and dead, given only to sperging grindfest catering to the kind of player who does everything with one eye constantly on the wallet or on their killboard, with the casualty being the casual player who just plain enjoyed the game for years.
CCP itself I think will move onto greater things though. They have good ideas. Some of their other works are incredible and they have developers who know their stuff. If they decided to drop Eve to go full bore on these new ideas I would support it.
But Eve will trudge on, fed by an ever smaller niche of suckers who pay for subs and PLEX who for the purpose of being abused by content. They'll feel special while the rest of the gaming world laughs at them for all riding in the same short bus.
For the most part, as sure as the days of just about everything are numbered, the game is outdated in a changing and expanding marketplace. That's life.

Honestly,
i think in 5 years eve will still be here. Valk will be fully released and not early access, nova shoudl be out, arena might be out and i'm sure ccp will drop more things.
What i'd like to see:
The 2014 vision, eve as a fully fledged connected universe where you pick yoru experence but all New Eden IP games interacting and working together, creating the largest gaming experence. (somehting liek what Star Citizen wants to do, but you know, ccp actually do it in a way that works)
What will prolly happen: EVE will be limping along with the other games ccp makes. I don;t see eve closing in 5 years but less players and stable (as in no dropping but not growing)
OMG Comet Mining idea!!! Comet Mining!
Yes i am optimistic about eve.. i'm giving it till dec 31st 2016 before i doom n gloom

5 years from now only a few realities.
1) New developers will be on staff
2) the bad developers will finally be fired or gone
3) we'll still be debating how to fix cloaky camping and placing limits on cloaky camping and the gamestyle of a cloaky camper
4) you'll still be using Plex
5) VR-eve was shut down as ccp decides to research another type of game cause, well thats what they do best so far.. put time into something set up to fail from the beginning.. typically projects get so old they become DUST (no pun intended, ok im lying)
6) we'll actually have some decent actual signatures for forums
7) Most players still wont know how to find forums and just stick to reading the mitani and complaining about that sites format look
8) Mittens will finally have a life
9) Grath will finally admit that Gila's stink cause of a CCP nerf that occurs 3 yrs prior to the 5 years we're talking about
10)...you'll finally be able to do something in eve from your smart phone.. the mobile app will be live... and free!
bonus... what you think this game will be free to play by then??...no way in hell.

Short term, I hope we can do away with Faction Police, rework wardecs, and find a suitable replacement intel system for the now missing watchlists.
Long term, I'd love to see VR compatibility for a Pod-view camera mode in some ludicrously high resolution. I hope one day CCP will change the game over to a complex and stimulating physics engine based on Newtonian physics to account for the gravity of planets, stars, and other large bodies (citadels?). I'd like to see Dust get moved over to PC and really plugged in to the rest of EvE. As an extension of the physics engine and Dust, I'd like to see low orbit battles, and maybe space marine ship boarding to forcibly extract a player's capsule from his vessel. I'd really like to see WiS get fleshed out and released with VR compatibility. Can you imagine putting on the headset and looking through the eyes of your clone as you sit at a solid Omber table with your coalition's board of directors at a fully rendered boardroom in one of Jita's Ambassador Suite's looking out over Jita's undock as you plan out the invasion of a region? I mean, I can't. But there"s got to be at least six peiple in EvE who can.
Of course, long term, all I really hope CCP does with EvE is let it stay dangerous. |

It's important to remember that CCP is a business. The people who work there expect a paycheck and those paychecks are provided by subscription fees and other stuff we buy from CCP with real money. Eve will continue as long as it is profitable. The biggest problem CCP seems to have is new player retention - if they solve that, I believe the game will still be going strong in 5 years. MMO may be a shrinking market but there are still a lot of people on the planet who enjoy this genre and CCP only needs to attract a small fraction of them to keep the game profitable.
I don't expect to see many large transformative features intended to grow the game - those investments should go to new products set in the Eve universe. Eve will get a smaller slice of the development pie aimed at sustaining the game.
Those who still dream of walking in stations need to realize that this is never was part of the Eve value proposition - it was a massive development effort that added nothing to core gameplay so CCP came to their senses and scraped it. Citadels do not have a Captains' quarters and Citadels will eventually replace Outposts and Stations. RIP WIS. |

DEV team, the conceptual at least should change. In best case, all DEVs directly related to EVE concept life and creation who do not generate anything new and break through with new cutting edge ideas but are in the team for a long time are just free riders on the results of their old exploits which will eventually lead CCP to its end due to creative stagnation, which is promoted by a lot of biases inherent to a group with strong long-term ties to one another. No matter how harsh it sounds but all ineffective devs be it conceptually or creatively shoould go no matter how harsh it sounds, new heads are needed because new needs exist.
There is nothing worthy in this world even if others think it is worth something...

VR compatible - you take off the headset to find someone's emptied your apartment, including taking the fridge and its meager contents (an empty bottle of mustard and several soy sauce packets). But, you don't care, cause you just trained Mergers and Acquisitions to XII. "On to the arbitrage!" your neighbors hear you shout.
In five years I'll be pushing up daisies. SO, what CCP will be doing will be of little to no interest to me. (No offense, CCP, I have better people to haunt...though maybe not so deserving....)
All of these assumptions so far also assume Western Civ will still exist, and if it does will still have electricity. Of course, we know Iceland will, since they can always harness those volcanoes. SO, that must mean everyone will have moved to Iceland to play EVE and increased it's population to such a degree IT starts sinking into the ocean along with Hawaii and Florida.
Five years stuck on my eyes. Five years. What a surprise! Five years, my brain hurts a lot. Five years? That's all we've got!
