Wow. Even I'm not that cynical. I think when people say "fix" whatever-sec, they often talk past each other. "Fix" can mean a lot of things. I think CCP could change a lot of things in any sec. CCP isn't going to jeopardize the future evolution of this game because entrenched players might be forced to change their play style. One thing that won't change: players will always find a way to screw one another over. |

At the chance of replying to a troll and/or stating something already mentioned:
Just because you entered a site first doesn't mean it's yours, exploration is a very competitive play style in an already competitive game. I do combat exploration in high sec a whole lot, have been doing it for years, and it happens to me all the time and I do it to others the whole time. But that doesn't mean I lose loot drops all the time, it rarely happens. And the other way round I DO take loot from others most of the time. The trick is to be better at doing those sites than the other guy so that the loot becomes yours and there's a few tricks to help with that:
- KNOW the site, know how to complete it the fastest and what the triggers are. Many times you don't have to kill all npc, just a few specific ones
- don't waste time looting or salvaging
- don't use a ship that relies on kiting, it wastes time and you will be too far away from the wreck with the loot. Not handy if someone else drops in
- have a ship and fit that can tank the whole pocket including any triggers, that way you can stay in that pocket and perhaps push someone else, who can't tank it all, out. It also helps to save you time in sites where you don't have to kill all
- use a ship that can do 400+ DPS at 50+km range, wreck ownership is based on who did the most damage to the target. If the main target is at 60km when you enter the pocket (there's many situations like that) then it doesn't help if you have to first cover 20-30km before you can start applying somewhat decent dps, you will lose out to someone else who CAN apply good damage from that range right from the start
- use the right shipGäó. Don't bring nonsense like funky Worms, Asteros or similar because they lack the tank and projected dps to compete against proper ships. On that same note do not use a Gila, I know people think it's awesome but that's for all the wrong reasons in this case. The problem is that its main dps comes from medium drones which are slow and waste time to travel to target, if that target is 60km away it'll be (half) dead from someone else attacking it before the drones arrive. In all my years I have never lost a site to a Gila, they're just no good at it
The right shipsGäó for this specific play style in high sec are: Sentry Ishtar and Sentry Stratios (no sentries = you're going to lose loot to others), HAM Cerberus (in Gal/Cal sites). Anything else is mediocre, at best.
Do not waste time!
Any second you waste on looting something that isn't the main target, killing something that doesn't need killing, salvage a wreck or is wasted in a myriad of other ways... is a second someone else could JUST rush in and take the loot from a site you're doing or you came short to rush into a site done by someone else where you try to get the loot.
As said, exploration is very competitive. Adapt and improve or accept that you're going to lose drops to people who chose to improve more than you did. |

After reading the replies posted in this thread, I just can't understand why log in numbers keep going down. Really makes me proud to know they're here helping the community. It's not like the replies telling the OP to quit and go to another game were hostile and self righteous. Anyway, I'm sure CCP really appreciates the help in gaining and keeping more players subbed to this game.
/sarcasm
Last I remember, after CCP's last big change to exploration when all high sec sites were added to low sec and static DED sites were removed, the Gate keys were no longer consumed after accessing the Gate. Also the Gate would stay open after being accessed until reset at downtime.
As someone else already said, High Sec Exploration is a race to the finish, google some guides about the site and find out which trigger needs to be destroyed so you can bypass the rest of the NPC's and quickly complete the complex asap.
Make sure your skills and ship fit will allow you to quickly complete the site asap. If not then get a couple of friends to help.
Also do exploration in areas off the beaten path, far away from mission and market hubs. Check starmap for system stats, low amount of population, low amount of jumps, low amount of kills, etc.

Fix what exactly? It's working as intended.
When you don't know the difference between there, their, and they're, you come across as being so uneducated that your viewpoint can be safely dismissed. The literate is unlikely to learn much from the illiterate.

Also the keys can be re-used, my salvager account carries various keys etc in its cargo so it can follow me through, I have no doubt others carry them as well.

I am guilty of doing this, I have no regrets. I'll even show you what I looted in local...if you complain that is. Some players view other players as NPC's that concentrate resources or prepared cans for us to loot.
My first experience of this was being farmed by a BoB titan and fleet. Shrike warped to our station in our capital system alone in his avatar and it was just me outside the station in a tristan. We got a fleet together and engaged, 180 BoB descended on us in BS, we lost everything, they lost maybe 2 ships....then it started....the titan was fit with salvagers and tractor beams....we were farmed.
You have two choices, be farmed or fight/farm back.

Civil discourse is uniquely human. After all, when is the last time a pride of lions and a herd of water buffalo negotiated SOV over a watering hole? Never.
Someone either gets their ass kicked or eaten. At the end of the day someone holds SOV.

OP, just to give you a little more perspective, not all of the explorers you come across in high-sec will share the approach to the game as most of the posters above.
I use to do a lot of exploration and I found that many explorers would would yield sites to the first one there. It tended to vary by region. The more crowded the space - the more aggressive the site runners. The players that "steal??" sites tend to be very good at it. If I came across such a player I would try to learn how they approached the site to improve my own times. I would NEVER complain in local. Usually I would try to race them and might offer a congrats in local if I thought they earned it. Then I would flag them so I would know when they were around. I never believed what they said they scored in local.
Sometimes I would jump into a site and find someone was already was there. Sometimes they would get scared and warp off. Other times they would get angry in local. Usually I'd post in local that I didn't mean to intrude and would cloak and watch how they approached the site. Then I would flag them as a competitor.
Low-sec exploration is a different beast. There players are after you -- not your loot. But many times you can successfully inhabit an area with patience and a low-key approach.
TLDR; move to a less active region/constellation away from the major hubs & learn to appreciate competitors as making the game more interesting.

Well OP you could do what I have done and decide not to bother with content that rewards this type of thing, then after a while you get to the point where there is very little left to do, then you go and play another game just as Herzog suggested.

OP, I'm sorry to say this but tbh you should just forget about EVE, unsub and go someplace else. If you can't already tell by the community here, this game is packed with disgusting people with personalitydisorders who are thriving on making other people lifes miserable. I mean, just read the replies you've gotten in here... Says it all.
If you still decide to stay among these scumbags, then atleast run as far away as possible from HS-space. The name is a good way of fooling new players but HS-space is the worst place in the game. All the shitlords from the entire world gather there to **** up your day and I can't see CCP fix the broken mechanics they thrive on, ever. As someone else mentioned they will probably let EVE die before fixing HS. People are allowed to make a living by earning a ****-ton of isk by simply suicideganking others. The guy at the reciving end will only be told to HTFU, you should've had an armed escort, recon, spend 2 months to move your stuff back and forth instead of carrying 100m in one transportship, and on and on it goes. It does not matter if you actually have constructive critisism, if you put it forth here, they will troll the **** out of the thread til it get closed and they will allways get away with it. This is a place for people who are sick tbh and can live out their sadistic ways without repercussions.
