Hi!
Just as everyone else I have been doing agent missions as a crazy addict the past few days. I'm curious as to one game mechanic though; faction standing.
After logging on to Castor the very first time I had a Gallente faction of 2.00. Now after having done about ten missions for my lvl2 agent I got a 17% jump increase and thus landed on the faction standing 2.17
Since then I have done at least 20 more missions for that lvl2 and as many for a new low-quality lvl3. And my faction standing has not increased one bit. Read; not one bit.
Is it supposed to work like this or is my character bugged? Is it perhaps a server bug, even?
I don't dare to think about having to do hundreds of missions, hoping to get a mission that boosts my faction standing (rare they seem to be) just in order to end up even after that weekly 5% faction decay?

you only get faction increase for certain missions ... looks like you got one of the "important" missions that gave you a faction bonus but havent got another one since

Yeah, that was what I feared. Since that mission I've gotten several "I have an important task for you" but evidently, it wasn't important standing-wise
Having missions that give you a special boost is a great idea, but I'm not really for removing the slow increase alltogether. 0.01 increase per completed mission was right on target; it gave increase to those devoted enough and didn't matter much for the "occasional" runner.

What I find annoying is that I did not receive any such mission, which means that even though I am doing missions al the time I am going to loose faction standing because I haven't got anything to compensate for the decay.

Not entirely true: There are some missions which give a good amount of standing increase, but regular give an increase, too.
Thing is that this increase gets less and less the more you are above the minimal standing of your agent.
So, if you only advance at snail speed try a available agent a little further down your list.

The ones that give a big boost are labeled in your journal as "Important - Mission Title"

as I recall, faction standing is only affected by important missions now. Normal missions affect the corp and agent standing.

It's been exactly 53 missions since the last one that increased faction towards the Minmatar Republic.
If standings are supposed to take greater importance in the future and missions are supposed to be the most effective manner to increase standings, then there can be no "Collosally bad luck" involved here. I'd take a corporation that provided no rewards besides faction increases over watching my faction tank.

Edited by: Balgair McLear on 20/12/2003 03:11:50 I have a Caldari BP, and over 300 level 3 missions from Pre-patch.
Lost my initial level 3 from the bug.
I am using a level 2 agent cause that's all I can get... and this is after 20-30 missions "succesfully completed" in Castor...
I think that says it all.

... Have done maybe ~40 missions for a couple of Caldari companies since the patch, lvl.2 and 3 agents... didn't get a single of those 'important' missions yet. o.o;

95% of the missions she has done has been with level 3 agents.

50th mission using the same agent, Eigulf Kadrarolf, for Core Complexion Inc. No faction increases using this agent. Agent level is 3.

Edited by: Luther Pendragon on 20/12/2003 09:28:42 I see insanity checking still isnt used. Frankly Im very tired of this lucky/unlucky, one person gets 5-in-a-row, and another gets once-in-a-lifetime-special mission. I want regular and garanteed missions within a set interval, not flukey-maybe-never-gonna-get-till-hell-freezes-over-missions. ____________________________________ Taggart wants YOU. I will largely agree with you, Luther. They should be random within reasonable limits, and there should be a maximum number of missions within which you're guaranteed to get at least one.

Ive had three over 2 chars... neither actually increased Caldari faction...apparently a known bug.

A bunch of old missions had "Important " in their mission name, so that would throw you off. Being dealt with.
A real important mission has a section like this in the journal:
Standings ----------------------- This is an important mission, which will have significant impact on your faction standings.
and sometimes has Important - prefixed to the mission name.
My bad. Will try to get this fixed asap.
The important mission concept sux0rs, IMHO, but I can't win 'em all. It'll die in Shiva if I have my way, or at least be fix0red so well that it's OK.
We'll discuss the implications of making missions do derivative standings again and such, but it'll probably be a no go. Seems to me that it would increase DB load by 5% as is, which is way too much.

This has nothing to do with the difference between agents of different corps or divisions? --- soonÖ |

Not really, but the missions dished out vary by corp type. They would affect this as well, especially since courier missions probably get most shafted in Castor given increased travel times, and there is a tendancy for courier missions to go to certain corp types, mining missions to others, kill to yet others, etc. Corp types that rely on courier missions will thus atm. probably give you less return-per-minute than others. Division type doesn't play a role yet, but will.

PapaSmurf, there's still the main issue here that remains unanswered: is it normal to do 40-50 missions without encountering single of those 'important' faction-affecting missions? How often are they supposed to happen in the first place? o.o;

at level 3 agent, important mission drops soemwhere between 30 and 50 mission form my understanding, but its a random thing, so even doing 100 without one dropping probably isnt that odd, someone else might have had 3 in that time

100 missions without doing one would mean 25 hours of mission running, assuming perfect mission running taking 15m each. Which is impossible.
25h would mean mission running is required for everyone. As it stands 30 missions means 7.5h of mission running to maintain faction standing. At this rate, give me back bribes and kick the isk up to 5m doable once per week. Given the only faction increase I've had, I'll have to get 2 missions to maintain my faction for the Minmatar Republic. Which means best case scenario:
15h per week of playtime running missions.
Sorry, I suspect when people's factions start tanking with the prospect of doing 15h worth of missions to recover, something else will happen.

... 100 missions under the old system would give me roughly 1.0 boost to faction. What is the faction gain from those "important" missions?

Edited by: Papa Smurf on 20/12/2003 18:01:16 This is quite right, important missions are coming far to infrequently. Sux0rs.
I'm going to double the frequency, but will reduce the gain. (First step in tuning these.)
Heading off to Chaos in a few minutes, and out on TQ next update.
