I want to fit either a Bustard or Crane, to haul stuff 6 jumps to the nearest outpost w/ some security. Now the ships are confusing sine the Crane has 2 low slots and the Bustard has 4 , but you could but a stab or two in the bustard.
Any thoughts on the two ships and what mods to run?

I think their stats speak for themselves. The Bustard has 5 low slots by the way. The Crane is the fast one, or at least is supposed to be, despite the fact that it's impossible to fit an MWD on it + a normal setup. It aligns and warps pretty fast and had a natural +2 warp strength so you're tougher to scramble. It also has a rather small cargohold (like 4300 if I remember right). The Bustard is bigger, has about as many hitpoints as a battlecruiser and HAC-like resistances. You can easily fit an MWD on it, 2 warp core stabs, and a mix of nanos/istabs and reach decent speeds. Do fit a cloak, too. --- High quality pics of ALL EVE ships!

One is a deep space transport. They normally can have very heavy tanks if you have the skills, and hold more, but are slower and more apt to be destroyed.
The other is the blockade runner. It's smaller, has a smaller cargo hold, has +2 to warp core stabalization built in, is more agile, and is lighter.
If you want to break through camps, your best bet is the Blockade runner. You'll have to do more runs, but fitting the best cloak on it you can afford, as well as a MWD and some nano's in the lows, and you've got one hell of a ship. I feel safer in my blockade runner then in any other ship in the game.
Remember the 0.0 and low sec motto. It's better to arrive with a smaller cargo, then to arrive fast in a pod.

Blockade Runners have a smaller sig rad, they get into warp quicker, and they warp faster (13au/sec), thus they are harder to lock for gate campers in 0.0.
If you are running without an escort, a Blockade Runner with a MWD, Istab and a Nano in the lows, and a couple ECM bursts in the mids...it's the only way to go. I personally fly the Prowler with this setup, and made a 55 jump run through hostile 0.0 space no more than 24hrs ago, eluding no fewer than 5 gate camps. It really irritates Interceptors when they cannot catch you.

The Crane it is then, Im not to worried about the Cargo size since im hauling mostly Alloy from the Drone spawns. 3200 m3 is like 25mill isk in alloy so it good to know that it will arrive safe and haul back.

Bear in mind that, unfortunately, a Crane can't fit a MWD without sacrificing a low slot for a fitting mod.
Well, technically it can fit a T1 MWD, but only if you want absolutely no other powergrid-using modules (like a cloak, for instance).

Well its for a 6 jumps ship. The jumps are usually blue, it just for the unexpected gang thats flys around. Ill prob just use a cloaking device.

I know what your talking about. I live in the southern drone regions and the pirate infestation around both Paala and Skarkon bottlenecks is become a serious pain.

Hi peeps,
Having just recently been podded (only 0.4 system on my route through otherwise 'safe' space!) in a Badger 2 going to pick up 5 cruise missile launchers (yeah I know, should have checked first!) I'm seriously considering getting a Viator which, presumably, is the Gallente version of the Blockade Runner.
I've got nearly 3mil SP in engineering, so powergrid (and CPU) are maxxed out and shield skills are not bad at all, so any ideas on a good setup? I'm not too fussed about cargo space, just survivability at random gate camps.
Also, I presume by 'nano' you're talking about nanofibre hull mods?

Do you people never look at the dates of the other posts?
Anyway, yes, they are, however now internal stabilizers are better for that. People still call a speed/agility setup "nanoing" the ship because nanofibers were the best thing to fit there, but now they are only 3rd rate.

Edited by: Gypsio III on 04/07/2007 11:22:07 This setup is for the Prowler, but you should get the general idea...
T2 Cloak Something
Best MWD you can fit Cetus ECM Burst Hypnos multispec ECM
2x LHC I-stabs
2x polycarbon rigs
Theory:
Cloak for hiding upon jump-in to camp, and for AFKing in hostile space. MWD for running back to the gate.
I'm not a fan of tanking BRs. You have enough HP and resists to survive smartbombers, so the only situation in which you need a tank is when you're webbed and scrammed. But if you're webbed and scrammed, then you're going to die - no tank will save you. Use ECM (or even dampers) to break the lock upon you and allow you to warp or cloak.
Agility is key in a BR. I think the I-stab and polycarbon setup is best, at least for the Prowler. You accelerate and warp in about 4-5 seconds, with decent skills, upon jump-in at a gate. That's not unstoppable... but it's not bad either...

Good idea, Viator is far better than Crane. But if cargo of Iteron 5 is not an issue, you could consider prorator. With 4 lows and most grid, it might be bet blokade runner.

10MN MWD II, speed/agility mods at low slots, Navigation 5, Evasive maneuvering 5, Spaceship Command 5, High speed maneuvering 4, Acceleration control 4, Fast praying 5, shield Managment 5, Hull Upgrades 5, Mechanik 5. If you are going to meet some amarr ships at those camps, don't bother with Shield Managment.

Rack of stabs in the lows Cloak in the high. MWD in the mids.
Rest is all just fluff.
If theyve got enough points to get past all the stabs, no amount of tank or fast aligning was gonna save you anyway. The stabs might save you from, say, a trio of roaming inties who would get you if you fit istabs/nanos..

One bubble and you're fried with all the stabs on the world.

Last time, I've jumped through the gate with only 27% on structure, so yes, nanos/istabs/overdrives saves lives.
