This is something I have wanted to see an MMO do for a long time. Unfortunately, people do seem to get too attached to their characters and monopoly money. If ever there was a place to do it, it would be Eve.
There are many problems with it, other than the ones already pointed out. People could be station jockey's for months/years then pop in and probably pwn. The server would need to have something to guard against this I think.
Maybe a system where you could 'will' your isk to your next character would help keep people interested. I know that would be a comprimise from the true death ideal, but it might help keep the population up. Without population, this would never last.
Anyway, I really have wanted to see this for a long time, here's to like minded souls. How to pwn

No. No-one would ever leave the station in their main. Alts would become the word of the day, even worse than now. It would be boring as hell. As soon as someone lost an old charracter, they would quit.
Rather have a new shard with everything reset, with content added slowly, starting from day 1, and 3 times the space.

I do something similar to this. I have one character who is a 'permadeath' character. If she dies, I will delete her. I have another character who I've given a certain amount of 'lives', so after she dies x amount of time, I will delete her also... yes, I'm arguably a masochist, but I find this fun...

You are really weird.
Anyway, there is/was an MMO called sociolotron that did the permadeath thing. I never played it, but i read about it. Your character would have "children" and they would be in "college" while you play or something. If you died, then one of them would take your place with money. You could run out of kids, and have to start over. You had to actually have sex with another player to have kids.

Edited by: Montague Zooma on 17/03/2007 06:19:14 It might be interesting if all characters had a 100 death limit.
But not on a seperate server.

I guess my point was, if you want permadeath, or 100 lives, or 10 lives, or whatever - just keep tabs on how much you die, and then delete your character at the appropriate time. No need for a 'separate server' or any other nonsense.

This is EvE, the one world, the one cluster! And only one can exist.
Uhh except two already exist?

D2 hardcore was fun.
EQ hardcore server(Discord) was even more fun, but only a month long : /
And as to the 'never another shard' comment, we've already seen thats only true so long as there isn't money to be made in the deal. (Hint: Theres already another server for China)
I'd play a Hardcore EVE server, just have to use secondary char slot to mule to. Would make bounties mean something though :P
