From day 1 of playing eve (on 1 year 6 months or so now) I've wondered why * there is no option to turn off * the noise you get whilst accelerating and decelerating in warp.
It effectively prevents me from listening to music and having Eve sounds on at the same time.
I re-installed client today and suddenly memories of my first days of eve flooded back: Memories of when I still had "Audio Enabled"

I <3 the warp sound
When I started playing eve it pretty much sealed the deal. -
If you go into your options menu, there's a difficulty slider. Put that all the way over to the easiest setting and you'll be fine. |

I would really appreciate being able to turn it down. I would turn the sound back on if I could.

the ENTIRE sound engine needs a rewrite. I mean, why the heck do people turn off the sound in the first place when it lags the client for 5-15fps?
Not to mention no option to selectively turn off certain sound effects, the music... *

I know many would argue the opposite, but I like the music. The warp sound kills it because it's just too loud.

You can't possibly expect to travel in a vessel many times your size going at several times the speed of light and be completely silent about it, can you?
*hopes no one will post a "but there's no sound in space" comment*

I'd dump all the other sounds in eve if it was just to keep the warp sound.
It is the most informative sound in the entire game, mebbe even more than the locking sound.
From the sound you can understand your speed and hence your position in space. Without it, you wouldn't be able to drop safespots properly, you wouldn't know when to hit alt-tab to hit the mwd, you wouldn't know when things are lockable after exiting warp. And these are the things that just came to my mind.

I've always wondered why there wasn't an option to turn it down or off for a long time as well. I was very happy when it got bugged and didn't even exist for a while. But now, I just keep all the sounds off until it gets fixed. Which is a shame, cause I liked listening to the music. |

This man has a very valid point. So the warp sounds shouldnt get removed, just toned down, or be provided with a volume slider of its own, for those rare freaks who just LOVE to have the entire neighborhood know they are warping their ships.
As to the several people saying 'Wha, EvE has sound?!' While they seem to be saying they don't give a turd about sound, its the other way around. The sound portion of this game is so broken and uninformative that it's not only unnecesary, but even detrimental to the game experience. meh.
However, I still think EvE needs more and better tactical warning sounds.

The same reason that 100 other things players have repeatedly asked for fixes for have not gotten fixed. In the grand scheme of things CCP has deemed it unimportant and not worth spending much time or resources on. So while it may be being worked on, noone seems to be working very hard on it.

I did find the warp sounds annoying too, then I started to PvP and eventually ended up turning the sound on Eve off completely anyway because of the sound bottleneck in the client.
I am expecting the client is going to be getting a major overhaul for the ambulation thing, I imagine quite a number of long 'ignored' requests will be addressed. How to pwn

Add a checkbox in the Sound menu to turn warping sounds off.
Add a way for us to play the battle versions of the game music without having to use acceleration gates to access them.

I have a conspiracy theroy.....They cant fix the sound.
Like other MMO companys have done in the past, maybee they hired some developers to do just the sound engine while the game was in beta and as soon as the sound was done and the game launched they were let go.
Now they are stuck with it the way it is and dont know the coding methods used to fix or improve it.
This could explain why the sound has not been touched since beta.

I, uh "fixed" this about 6 months ago, managed to get my post removed for it :} and a dev stated they'd try and ahve a look at this.
However, other than changing the exact names used for the file name, and, i think a very very slight change of the sounds harshness, nothing happened.
What is good, is that just recently CCP got a sound guy again ('bout time) so not only should he be working on the engine, but its entirely possible he might just mock up an edited version of the warp sound that doesn't split ear drums. ______________________________________ Natural Selection Developer

QFT. I do like to listen to music while playing, although I do turn the sounds on every now and again, I find it does actually add to the feeling, it's more immersive. Although apparently 'immersive' isn't a real word, but I can't think of a suitable substitute.
The warp sound is unnecessarily loud and interferes too much.

The warp sound is the only reason I play eve without the sound on, which is a shame. I love the sound of guns and missiles booming, warp jammers, the sound of locking, even the music is nice to relax to.
The sonic boom every other minute gets very old very fast. It's too loud, too repetative, and can really mess up up voice coms.
Just give me a slider to turn the warp sound down or off. How many must die in the name of God before the Devil is satisfied |

1-2fps... no issues, but my overall fps isnt that high anyway, iam happy if i manage to have 13 fps in some larger missions, still playable.. and no. i dotn turn off sound.. 12 or 13fps. who cares, it slow already, and i want sound :) creative labs, no onboard sound crap, it works... if "all you guys" are using onboard sound OF COURSE you get fps drop, its not eve¦s fault tbh, onbaordsound uses your CPU to do it, thats why you plug in a SOUNDCARD :-P

They changed the female annouce voice about 1-1.5yrs ago, it was a lot better before if i recall rightly (i can't remember what i wore or ate last week, so it's a stretch).
Rev 2.0 has seen the FMOD engine get updated, which the sound engine for EVE, so let's see what the Devs can come up with -- perhaps an EAX / X-Fi option, which would eliminate the FPS hit with audio on, if you have one of these sound cards, as every gamer should. ************************************************** Maker of the finest Scottish drones and ammo...all combined with Active Peat Camouflage (tm) -- so dark, you won't see them coming!! |
