I just started the game as miner and have downloaded or printed several guides for that. Since I¦m so new and need to protect myself I stay in Empire space mining.
Wishing to make quick money I started looking for juicy asteroids with my guide in hand. Since I¦m at a 0.8 solar system I began mining Viscuos and solid Pyro. Now...I get told I should not go for those more "harder" to find asteroids and concentrate in simple scordite..not even the +5% and +10% types (dont remember the names now).
Is this not counterintuitive? Best ore to mine is the one I can find in 1.0? I thought the security risk by going to lower systems was rewarded with more cash for your specialitzed ore..but its not so?
Help, thnx

ATM scordite is the most lucrative in any zone thats 0.5 or higher. As for the +5% and +10%, don't look specific for them, but don't ignore them when you see them. If they are in a belt you mine than grab them as you would with any other scordite you find.

You will have to crunch some numbers in the system that you are running in but Scordite usually is a higher yield ore than most in high sec. Security rating on systems usually don't play a huge role in empire atleast until you get to 0.5 and below. In 0.5 you can get some Omber and <0.5 you start seeing the higher end 'roids. http://www.eve-files.com/media/corp/WLDs/roid_grid.jpg This map might help in determining the ores that you might find in space.

It's just that at this time, scordite is more profitable than most others because pyerite is in huge demand.
Now, you can mine it pretty much everywhere, but the nice thing is, it's available in quite large quantities in 0.9 and 1.0 space. In these areas, there are no rats, so you can throw away your shields, guns, and drones and put a mining laser, upgrade, and mining drones in their place, thus increasing your yeild! This combined makes scordite very profitable.
Note though, that this won't be forever. When the pyerite prices drop, scordite will be less profitable once again.
Also, you should not ignore condensed and massive scordite. Why not take those extra 5-10% when you can?

http://www.evegeek.com/ has a great ore value calculator which should tell you what's best to mine if you put in market prices, although it appears to be down at the moment. There is a huge demand for Pyerite and Mexallon which is making low end ores very valuable at the moment.

Is this all due to the massive wars going on? Someone just told me in space thats the main reason. So many basic ships get blown up that demand for basic ores is all time high.

Another reason to mine just basic scordite is if you are at or near a station that has a storyline agent.
People who are running level 2 missions will get offers for implants but need to give a quantity of scordite for it.
Thus, even more demand for scordite.

Yeah, but it's very little and quite insignificant.

Always, Always, Always go for the 'named' variety of a particular ore if it's available. Don't go too far looking for it, but if it's there grab it!
It's simple maths - +%5 or + 10% yield above the normal version of that ore.
So at the moment with high demand for pyerite, Scordite is good, Condensed Scordite better, Massive Scordite best.
Keep an eye on the market though - things change! Cheers Baka ______________________ Have a Skill in training every second of every day and never let your bank balance sink below your skill points. |
