Originally by: Naviset Last I checked, RLARs took an obscene amount of capacitor to run, meaning it would honestly make more sense to me that if you want a remote repairer to target yourself, it'd be this one. However once again because of the lower fitting requirements ships like an Armageddon or Megathron could use these to save itself a lowslot and 2000grid by using these.
Your drones provide nearly as much DPS tankable as a full flight of Ogre IIs allow, once you consider a high resist omnitank. The repair bots can't really be shot down unless you're a muppet because theres no delay on their return to your drone bay.. I guess you're also failing to see the dampener usage here as well. As an additional imbalance, Rep drones take no cap, and have no cap, providing several hundred damage per second tankable without any sort of cap usage.
The problem here is no the dominix. The domi would be fine. It's ships that have impressive turret-based damage capabilities (Impressive to the point that this damage would allow them to eliminate ships even without drone dps, eg. a hyperion with blasters has more damage than most ships can tank even before drones are calculated in. Adding this repair drone ability would Vastly increase the amount of time a Hyperion can survive while still meaning it has enough damage to get kills. This extra tankable damage would allow a Hyperion to tank numerous battleships and battlecruisers.
You miss multiple important points.
-Drone shields will not regenerate upon scoop.
-All ships with "impressive turret capability" aside from Amarr fight exclusively up close, and well within the range of multiple counters to these drones. Smartbombs; ecm bursts (which, with the introduction of Marauders and Electronic Attack Frigs for tackling, we will see much more heavily used as a GTFO button); your own drones. -Most ships will not get any impressive repairing going on. For example, Hyperion can only use four heavy drones, or two meds and three heavies.
-The amount of DPS lost by fielding repair drones instead of heavies is still significant. An average non-officer Megathron will not be able to reach 1000 DPS if you take out heavy drones. This is a pure trade of damage to defense. Arguing resitances is pointless because exactly the same thing applies to weapons.
-When drones are scooped, they are not repairing.
-If the only problem you have here is one ship, maybe the problem lies with the ship.
-If your point about gunships is indeed true, why is it that we basically never hear about two Megathrons sicking repair drones on each other and just slaughtering everything in their path? It would seem that if this mechanic was actually a problem, it would have already been abused. Has anyone here actually seen a doomsday scenario like this? Anyone at all? No? Funny, that.
-This adds an even greater flexibility to drone boats and it indirectly buffs Amarr. I think we can all agree this is a good thing.
There is fighting, and then there is fighting: Some weapons are more useful than others, and not all battles must be won. |

And you miss important points like: Scooping breaks locks, and since the drones are right on you your enemy will get 1 volley max at your drones (Which is rarely gonna kill em unless they're in a sabre or something).
Theres nothing wrong with the thron or hyperion as is, in my own opinion, however they dont need a boost in tankable damage.
Fortunately it doesnt take 1000 dps to kill things.
2 Megathrons remote repping do slaughter most things. Perhaps you've never seen it but it happens.
You can gain roughly 250+ dps tankable off a set of rep drones, which is nearly as much damage as T2 heavies inflict. The difference is, T2 heavies are easy to kill and require travel time, rep drones instascoop and dont pop fast because theres no return to drone bay travel time. Using heavies, they almost never instapop, they simply move too slow to return in time to save.
Drones dont need to repair if they took minimal damage in the first place.
In order to smartbomb your drones, your enemy has to be close, which kinda defeats your "omg range" argument.
Loss of a 2600grid/55cpu repper frees up A) A lowslot for a damage mod b) grid for bigger guns, which lowers if not nullifies any damage gap between rep drones and heavies, while still improving your tank.
The fact that you think EAS ships and Mauraders are going to make ECM bursts more popular posttrin boggles me. Damps blow now? Yeah..

Why not Make a new kind of repair drone that repairs your ship but you can't use if there is a threat nearby it solves the tanking problem and doesn't improve your chances in a battle

Is that like in the film Mystery men. When one of the peoples special powers is becoming invisible... only catch is he can't do it when people are looking

a 6 missile volley from a nighthawk will take out a drone before you can scoop it. Now that's 20% reduction in repair.
Next drone is not damaged but do you scoop it or just leave it out? Do you let your drone die or do you watch your armor get eaten little by little.
I think a new balance will be found even with drones repairing their own masters. BTW you say that ogre 2s have to travel. What about sentry drones. You can have em pop out and shoot immediately - pretty much the same as 5 more turrets with lesser ROF but higher accuracy.
I think a drone carrier ship(i.e. gallente and amarr reckon) will most likely still house internal tank and use their drones as a DPS, maybe with an exception of the mega Now a geddon, or a phoon with 5 rep drones mught be a tad bit scary but no scarier than a plated geddon or phoon with 5 ogres 2. End result is the same , only difference is that the geddon or phoon can repair itself when all's said and done.
I think it makes a lot of sense and it's not really unbalancing :). PLus if it's SOOOO good you can use it yourself right :)

I think it would be great if you could rep yourself with rep drones. But to avoid making it overpowered in combat just use same mechanics as on cloaks. Cant cloak/rep if you target someone or are being targeted...

I think repair drones should be able to repair your own ship.
Cause that makes sense.
And since drones no longer recharge shield on scoop, I no longer see balance issues.

Originally by: Arthur Frayn A carrier could rep itself with repair drones. Assign them to gangmates, then have them rep you.
Or can you only assign fighters?
assist = attack what your buddy/gang/corp mate is attacking. (combat drones/fighters) Gaurd = Attack anything that shoots your buddy/gang/corp mate. (Haven't tested if it works on anything besides combat drones)

T2 repair drones repair more than a T2 LAR. I did the math once, too lazy to do it again.
With the following tactic, they'll repair a little less then a T2 LAR but be nigh invulnerable, without the cap and fitting cost: Launch -> repair 1 cycle -> scoop. A lot of ships will be unable to target at such short notice. A smartbomb would work, but in the case of a megathron you'd be in a good range for his blasters.
The reason a 2-man team with repair drones isn't overpowered is quite simple, no instascoop.

have you tested to see what happens when you launch your repair drones THEN someone locks you and starts shooting...
i'm pretty sure they'd go fix the person shooting you unless you had already given them an order
and if they go fix the dude shooting you then your own combat drones would start shooting you while they were orbiting which would be kinda bad

Originally by: Xequecal I really don't see how it would be broken, as any brokenness inherent in it can easily be replicated today by just having two of the broken setup and having their drones rep each other. Since nobody is doing this, I really don't see how it's that strong.
Plated megathron/typhoon/armagueddon with full flight of heavy armor maintenance bot are quite common in gang PvP... Where have you been? -- Heat, easy to burn your mods by mistake, hard to get it to work when you need it the most. Well designed interface CCP! |

I would really like to see repair drones have the ability to repair their controller. Yes, it will be mroe effective on some ships than others, but isnt that the case with all things in eve. It also opens new possibilitys for fitting out ships with alternative strategies, for me, this is one of the things I love the most about eve.
It really shouldnt be too difficult to implement either - just add another option in the right click menu on active drones to 'repair controller' or the like

Wow. This thread has been necroed more than once!!
And yes, it's somewhat odd that you can't rep your own ship using them. But I guess the Devs have looked into it in the past and done this for a reason. It's however up to debate whether it was based on a good reason!

well if you think about it, say i had 5x heavy armor rep drone on me, + the usual tank, if im ontop of my scoop deploy i can easily tank a lot of DPS and be rather unkillable except to large blobs.
andd think about it, if everyone was useing reping drones on themselves everyone would use it, increasing server lag. -------------

Like they are not already using combat drones to boost their dps. ______________________________________________________________
