Hey guys, newly returned player and trying to remember the skill stuff.
My question is fairly simple and I am sure it has been asked before...I just cant seem to find it lol.
If I am going straight for a battlecruiser (drake for example), does reaching level 5 in cruiser, destroyer, frigate, mean anything at all for benefits in battlecruiser or should I not waste my time in those and just hit level 3 in them? Obviously spaceship command will be maxed as well as others necessary. Gunning straight for battlecruisers might not be the best option because I will not have all the other stuff ready (electronics, armor, etc), but my question is solely based on cruiser, destroyer, and frigate being left at 3 or maxed.
Thanks for the help guys! |

If you can run PVE decent....
If BC a goal...get the minimal racial ship class requirements and just press forward to that. Focus more on that support stuff.
Get the BC, give her a go, see from there.
Since drake mentioned....much latter on you will choose to push to BS or well, tengu lol. Decide that much later.
NOw if in pve'ing and hitting issues....
you may want to 4 your cruiser for the combat bonuses. And to make isk better. make this decision based on how you fly and if you meet any problems.
Example would be this char. He is my indy char. Long ago to get level 4 research agents I spammed combat missions for standings. He reached and ran level 3 missions on frigates only. Average AF skills on paper looking at skillsheet. Bulk of his success was I know how to fly AF's decent from the combat main. So I didn't max out skills. Also ran some shinies to cover lacking skills tbh. |

You will only need level 3 for frigate, destroyer and cruiser as prerequisites for the battlecruiser skill. Battlecruiser hull bonuses are determined by the battlecruiser skill. Cruiser hull bonuses by the cruiser skill, etc... Level 5 will be prerequisite for any of the advanced hulls.
Training an advanced hull instead of a larger hull can be a better choice, though it will take longer and cost more. Cerberus or Gila will outperform a drake for missions and are generally preferred for PVP is that is your goal.
Edit: Gila is a pirate cruiser, not an advanced cruiser but extremely powerful if you have decent missile and drone skills. |

Ships only benefit from the skills listed on their description. So for a Drake:
Quote:Caldari Battlecruiser bonuses (per skill level): 4% bonus to all shield resistances 10% bonus to kinetic Heavy Missile and Heavy Assault Missile damage
No benefit from Caldari Frigate, Caldari Destroyer, etc. Those skills unlock training Caldari Battlecruiser but provide no other benefit. |

In fact they are not even technically required to fly the ship at all.
Back in the day Command Ships did not require Command skills to fly and Freighters did not require Advanced spaceship command 5 . Anyone who train the Command ship/Freighter skills before those changes can still fly those ships today even without the prerequisites .
Most of those skills are just there to draw out the training time. |
