I just got a thorax and am going with the setup with a 1600mm plate and 5 light neutrons and was wondering, since i'm not getting the med hybrid bonus since i'm using lights, should i just go with pulse lasers to take out shields quicker? I also like how the lasers have better tracking and can change lenses faster then blasters can change ammo.

Blasters have better tracking last time i checked, and use the bonus they are much more powerful. Blasters are the strongest close range weapon. lazers take out shield quick but 60% resist on armor which most people tank.

Personaly i'd use autocannos simply to save cap and deal a decent amount of dmg. And torax whit 1600 plate makes baby jesus cry.
The rax is a dps beast. Vexor might be a better tank btw. Or maller . Btw orbit at 500m from the target And use for the rax might also help replyes

He wants to use small guns though.
To the O.P.
Light Neutrons do a lot more DPS than Medium Pulse Lasers[small gun version]. The MPLs have a lot better range.
If you think you are going to be able to get close, go with the Light Neutrons.
If not, go with the Medium Pulses.
Another thing to consider is that the cap usage on the MPLs is going to be about twice that of the Light Neutrons, and with neutrons you wont have to cross train as you go into battlecruisers or battleships[spending the time specializing instead].
IMHO. Pulse lasers only get good once you have the tech 2 versions. Blasters and ACs are much better before you hit tech 2. ---------------------------------------- Thou Shalt "Pew Pew" |

With small blaster you can still get some decent damage, with lasers, well ugh, just dont do even some ships that are meant to use lasers are better off using different kinds of weapons. If you want to use small guns for a big tank then go with blasters.

yes, but them being small makes it a bit more managable since their cap use has to be balanced around frigate capacitor.
For instance. My Tech 2 Medium Beam Harbinger[7 medium beams], runs about 18 cap/second on the guns[if i recall correctly]
This is bad, and really hard for a cruiser to handle[my build has no propulsion or reps], but wont be as bad without tech 2 guns, pulses, only 5 guns on top[total cap use 10 or so cap/second for 5 pulses], and likly, a med NOS. But not so hard that it would be impossible to cope with, and the extra range would be a large benefit if you were having issues getting close.
The Light Neutron build is all around better imho. ---------------------------------------- Thou Shalt "Pew Pew" |

what about medium beam laser ( small beams)? u can get some decent range with multifreq. Obviusly blasters/pulses do more dammage but u have to be VERY CLOSE. Small beams use not much cap and have a good range even with multifreq. I would give them a chance.
