It's no easy job, being the Saviour of Highsec. As much as I'd love to, say, send a letter to the president of my country and get a personal reply, it's unlikely to hapen, regardless of whether I want to praise his awesomeness or tell him what an ass he is. If the matter of the message is serious enough, there's a good chance I'll get a reply from his office, though - these guys are obliged to read all the correspondence.
James 315 reads all his evemails, but it's entirely up to him to choose the medium for his response, or to respond at all. This goes for everyone, including my humble self. If you want to speak to James directly, he always responds to evemails and convos concerning the alliance business, and you can make an amazing career in the New Order - our doors are open. If you'd like to be mentioned on the minerbumping blog, you can become a shareholder or pay a sufficient tribute in tears - there are special blog posts for that, too. |

It'll explain to you that there is no need for someone to be in CODE. alliance to be an enforcer of the code. Especially this part should interest you: Everyone in EVE who takes any action to support our cause is an Agent of the New Order.

And everybody who partakes of any actions in highsec (including but not limited to actions relating to Code enforcement) should carry their permit proudly as a badge of legitimacy.

An interesting point, Bumblefck. Supporters outside the CODE. Alliance would be well advised to sport a permit - in order to prevent erroneous interference.
The exception in my own case is my scout, for reasons which I'm sure are obvious. He doesn't carry a Permit but we are a community and some of the local enforcers are aware of him. In any case, if I lost a ship to a comrade I'd have a good laugh about it!
When I returned to the game after a ~6 month break, the first thing I did was to buy a Permit for Sasha from one of my CODE. heroes; Mr Salah ad-Din Al-Jawahiri (First of His Name). He graciously obliged.

I posit that any and all individuals - both those inside the CODE. Alliance and associated groups and everybody else, those enforcing the CODE and those living by it (though, of course, the ideal is that one is doing both) - require a permit to operate within high space within the bounds of the NHCC. I feel it in my fingers; I feel it in my toes.

The Code is a venerable document which is the framework of modern Code enforcement practices. It is not an exhaustive list of all Laws, and is not intended to be. Since the Code is a living, breathing document, it's not possible to fully enumerate all of the rules.
Modern Code enforcement practices are the product of years of daily updates by our Saviour in response to the happenings in His territory. Correct interpretation often requires the involvement of a Code scholar. Every now and then, James 315 will make a seminal post which has an enormous effect, such as these:
Fair Warning "All miners are deemed to have read the Code."
Who You Gonna Call? Part 2 "They don't need a "warning" before they get ganked. They've already been warned. Carebears of highsec, the time for warnings is over. The time for payment has come"
Yes, All Freighters Need Mining Permits "...every freighter and jump freighter found in highsec without a mining permit is subject to immediate termination."
We understand that many miners are have neither the inclination nor ability to become scholars of the Code. No doubt with these types in mind, Agent Rabe Raptor created The Law of Highsec, a practical supplement to The Code which lists specific violations.
It is safe to assume that: - All activities in highsec require a permit - You must always fit a strong tank on your ship - You must always pay attention to your surroundings and be at your keyboard - You must strive to avoid even the appearance of being AFK or botting
My best advice for the average capsuleer is to approach your local Agent with deference, purchase a permit to demonstrate your goodwill and support of our cause, and feel free to ask questions. Our Agents all have the resources to help you make informed choices. |

Code reminds of what Calgacus (quoted by Tacitus) had to say about the Romans:
"Auferre, trucidare, rapere, falsis nominibus imperium; atque, ubi solitudinem faciunt, pacem appellant."
"To ravage, to slaughter, to usurp under false titles, they call empire; and where they make a desert, they call it peace."
Whatever the validity of the historical fact of this quote, the meaning is pretty clear. |

The historical context has some evidence, apparently in the famous Leonardo Da Vinci mural painting there is a hidden homage to a basic and primitive version of the CODE. We have today. |

How is having a glorified mafia running amok in high-sec beneficial? my problem isn-¦t the activity of bumping or ganking, ****, even extortion in fine, this is eve for **** sakes. But they should be at least honest about itheir true intention: wanting to mine and harass miners for the sheer fun of it. No, instead what you get is a pseudo-religion based on worshiping a conman.

It provides content, stuff happens and players interact while learning stuff about the game. This IS a multiplayer sandbox game so in light of that I'd say those are good things, wouldn't you?

On the 'extortion': 10 million isk per year is next to nothing, no agent is getting rich from permits.
As for 'true intention': when I was still active as a EVE player what I loved about high sec ganking was the thrill of the hunt. Finding targets, snooping up on them and taking them out. For me, 'harassment' was not motivation. Nor was 'collecting tears', though sometimes communications between ganker and gankee can be amusing and/or interesting, most of the time they are not.
I love the role playing part. I never did even the slightest form of role playing in EVE before 'joining' the New Order. So, all in all we have a 'glorified maffia' who provides exactly the things one would expect in a multiplayer, sandbox roleplaying game. Sounds benificial to me :) .
Note that these are all my personal motivations and opinions and I do not speak on behalf of every New Order agent. Only James 315, our Supreme Protector, can do that. |

You're asking the wrong question. The real question you should be asking is, why is the rum gone?
But seriously, the actual real question is, in a game where the players write the story, what would you rail against without a real villain?

At least this Code. thread was sort of entertaining.
That said, I agree with the OP somewhat. The new Halaima code is going to be four years next year, isn't it? If I remember right, James 315 started his crusade by the end of 2012...
I'd say the code could do with a little face lifting .
Edit: Ok. it was even by the end of 2011 and the code was a thing in 2012. So it's even going to be five years next year. Time is flying...

An anthropologic study in the Uedama area of space on the 'Behavioural Practices of Repetitive Tasks and Measurement of Pilot At Keyboard Presence', has published its controversial findings.
The shocking conclusion of the report is that CODE pilots have begun to exhibit the exact same behaviour of miners that their leadership of James314 issued a rallying cry against. James314 no longer a corporeal presence in New Eden, perhaps fortunate, as the ideological practice of the CODE, has become functionally the same as mining.
Uedama has been classified in the report as a 'Freighter Belt' that is occupied by 'Freighter MIners' who largely operate semi-AFK on gates, waiting for 'Freighters to Spawn', before mining them for their ISK value. There is no real attributed risk in the ISK generation through 'Freighter Mining', as the costs for losses of ships during the process have been factored, using a simple mathematical rule of thumb: 3m ISK per 1K EHP. With the cost of a mining operation as a known constant, the notion of risk has been removed. The risk-free and semi-AFK nature of traditional mining being one of the complaints originally made by the CODE, is now an integral element of their modus operandi.
Freighters, large and slow moving objects, extremely resemblant of asteroids, are scanned and evaluated for their ISKpotential, before being mined and then salvaged into a cargo hold. A practice that originates in the mining community.
Ultimately, it appears that CODE have become what they have fought against, miners of another name.` |
