Hello
Laptop specs: Intel-« CoreGäó i7 4720HQ Processor, 8GB DDR3L 1600 MHz SDRAM NVIDIA-« GeForce-« GTX 960M 4G GDDR5 256GB SSD Samsung Windows 10, pretty clean system - just essentials, eve, steam, 2-3 steam games, some developer enviroments which are not turned on during play (no servers / services running)
Now I am not even running all the things on graphics, like asteroid environment and post processing is turned off. Client is set in borderless window 1920x1080px
If I run 1 client, it runs on 54-60 FPS. If I run 2 clients and alt-tab between (2nd client gets minimized on my setup, so it is not in background, mouse button is running 'windows+arrow down' shortcut to put it down so I see desktop and then I click on other client) they run at about same FPS.
Now problems arise when I connect external screen. I connect it with HDMI cable and try to run 2 clients side by size. Which ever client has focus (I click into it) runs at about 50fps, but the other client drops to 10-15fps. If I click in the other client it gets to 50fps in about second and the other one starts dropping to 10-15fps and reaches that in about 5 seconds.
I've suspected that HDMI cabel might be issue, but considering I can get either external or internal to 50-60 fps by itself, it most likely is not the issue here.
So, any ideas why non focused client is not getting any love?

Hi, same issue here since the last patch. Used to be able to run up to 4 accounts smoothly side by side, now only the one with focus has a decent framerate. Dualboxing a complex becomes a real pain...

Update : it's not only EVE. We giving focus to my client on one screen, I have a huge FPS drop on a youtube video playing on the other screen.
So basically, giving focus to EVE slows everything else down.
I have a driver update ready for my GPU, I will install it during DT and see if it changes something... :) |

For me that problem does not happen. I think we are not having the same issue, since for me everything else is running good except the unfocused client.
What I figured so far is that client without focus is not getting / asking for all system resources to run properly.
What you are describing sounds more like if you have active client that it slows down rest of your computer. In my case I have more then enough resources since my eve client doesn't take more then 25-33% of CPU and about 10-20% or system RAM, so there is ample of resources to go around.
EDIT: Though, looking at your specs, you should be fine as well. I don't know then, but I just tested and other things are fine, it is just eve client.

Actually it's not slowing everything down, rather everything that uses the GPU. I believe the HTML5 player from Youtube uses the GPU, I've not tried with other games but I'm pretty sure it would have the same effect.
Now as far as I'm concerned installed the latest GeForce driver (373.06) solved the issue. |

I used to have this problem on AMD R9 390 until I disabled the power efficiency option within the driver and then it went away. With todays Oct 11th patch the problem is not only back (particularly when docked in stations) but is much worse than before. FPS performance while in stations is WAY down.

All power saving options that I have are disabled for years now (this included windows power management, intel drivers power management, nvidia drivers power management, etc...)
The only other thing I was concern was that non focused client gets switched to integrated graphics, but I forced it to use normal graphics card all the time and it was still happening.
Shaar Vro wrote: And lastly, so we can compare symptoms... I've noticed something : - With DX11 when you switch focus from one client to the other, the first click on the previously non-focused client does nothing (appart giving the focus). Like you're playing on client 1 and need to activate a module on client 2 : first click does nothing, second click activates the module. - With DX9 the first click is immediately effective.
Yes, I've noticed that, annoying as hell. Took me a while to get used to it. Especially running something on the second screen and then trying to active things or select overview things...

Ok, tested
DX9
1 client run: Client with focus: 60FPS Client without focus: 60FPS
2 client run: Client 1 with focus: 40-50 FPS Client 2 without focus: 32-38 FPS Both clients without focus: 38-40 FPS
DX11
1 client run: Client with focus: 60FPS Client without focus: 60FPS
2 client run: Client 1 with focus: 60 FPS Client 2 without focus: 12-18 FPS Both clients without focus: 33-38 FPS
Never in the test did my CPU pass 23% usage and my RAM stayed at 54% Disk is no issue since it SSD and never passed 1-2% usage
So any CCP employee that could confirm that CCP is even aware of this?

Since the patch i had massive fps drops in both focused and non-focused windows. my cpu is at 50-60% and GPU is 100% all the time
I could get some fps back with setting shader quality to low. Of course, ships look like in the 1980s now :( |

I'm getting drops down to 10 fps on non-focused clients and I'm okay with that. http://i.imgur.com/XdQMrVL.jpg
Seems normal to me. I seem to recall setting clients to Interval Immediate would let the GPU decide framerates.

Been running DX9 for some time due to the AMD bug (crash in minmatar stations), Switched to DX11 yesterday and damn what a mess o.O
FPS fluctuates wildly (normally running 2 clients smoothly with 60 fps, all maxed out with youtube/netflix running as well with lots of gpu power to spare on my 7850)
It seems somewhat random, and turning down quality doesn't seem to help. One thing that triggers it is locking a target.
When i get some time, i'll tinker a bit and see if i can narrow down the issue, but right now it's somewhat unplayable and switching back to DX9 :(
Happy bughunting :D
Edit: Sometimes it gets so bad the client becomes unresponsive for a few secs. The performance drop cascades into other programs using the gpu as well. |

I've always assumed this is a feature. EVE slowing down the non-focused client to preserve resources for the active client and/or keep system load and heat as low as possible. This happens to me too (DX11).

I've been having this issue too since October 5th, 2016. My client was working great and came back after about 30mins from being afk and the FPS where ranging from 1-10 fps.
I cleared cache multiple times but it hasn't helped. Hopefully someone finds a fix for this soon. |

I had this problem with Nvidea drivers on a GTX 980 SC - same fault conditions with throttling out of focus displays. Fixed it by rolling back to native windows driver 369.09 and it works fine.
Would think its driver related, not EVE |

I've got similar issue
iMac (27-inch, Late 2013) / 3,5 GHz Intel Core i7 / GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB / 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 / El Capitan
...but it has gotten a bit better with the implementation of that "use hardware rendering" option in the launcher.......but still have most graphics options on medium or lower.
This is an issue with Wine and Nvidia drivers....Found that on the WineHq page... Although things are a bit better, still sucks I can't play the game as good as I did under Cider (all high graph settings, no issue at all).
Now even when i click in space or select something, basically any action triggers a huge drop framerate...I only managed to minimize that by lowering the graphics settings.
Would be nice to play in FULL glory again... |

I have the same issues with my gtx660 on 376 drivers ,
after watching videos on youtube in 720p + resolutions and relaunching the game , eve seems to run at 60 fps then suddenly drop at 30 , moving arround the camera soemtimes u can have some 60 fps spikes but then it will go back to 30 .
Although 30 fps could be bearable for a game , the problem is the video stutter is much more advanced than a normal 30 fps so i believe the framerate monitor is being tricked somehow with a wrong framerate , and the interval one option of the game throttles down the vcard .
I tested the issue with other games and had no problems .. the only way to make it dissapear is to restart windows .
Also the desktop on full aero settings seems to lag a bit ,, but i could be wrong. |
